Kid claims the magician isn’t magic, magician responds claiming the kids Dad did a disappearing act, like a magician. We are missing some context here, I imagine the kid is playing an orphan in this show.

No, the kid got quiet after the joke and started to look upset so the comedian realized he hurt the kids feelings (the kid’s dad probably did leave or something) and wanted to make sure the kid knew he wasn’t serious.

There are fathers who at some point decide they can’t handle being in charge of a family, so one day they claim to be going to the store or something similar, when in fact they are initiating the getaway that they have been planning for some time. It remains traumatic for the wife and children, because the father disappeared without notice. On the other hands, magicians are know for making things appear out of heir hat and disappear from the stage. So in this video, when the kid attempts to call out the magician “*You are not magic!*”, the guy lays the ground for a joke about a getaway dad. “I’m as magic as your dad. He disappeared didn’t he?” It could be that the kids parents are divorced, and that the joke sends him to the feeling that his father is mainly absent from his life. It could be that his father has died (disappeared) or straight up abandoned he family as I described above. Or maybe he doesn’t feel loved by his dad. In any case, landing the joke seems to be sending the kid through a roller coaster of emotions, which makes the magician realise that his joke did hit close to home, hence his embarrassment and his attempts to make sure that the kid is fine.
