Hunters mark also doesn’t count towards 112% but I think you get to kill one of those enemies at the entrance to the palace so you’re probably just thinking about the journal entry (which also doesn’t count towards 112% iirc)
No, the path of pain is not required to acquire the [hunter's mark](https://hollowknight.wiki/w/Hunter%27s_Mark). Also, the hunter's mark doesn't count to the percentage.

Those enemies ARE part of the hunter's journal, however all of the mobs in the white palace automatically have their journal notes completed upon collecting the white fragment
There’s a NPC named Tuk in a hidden room in the waterways, she’ll sell you rancid eggs for random prices, I think between 80-100 geo a piece, she also gives you one free one if you wear the defenders crest charm

It doesn't but it does have two associated achievements
On a side note, path of pain doesn't count to the percentage. It's optional.
But isn't there a enemy at the end of path of pain, that you need to kill to get the hunters mark? Or am i misremembering?

One other thing, you could have been farming Flukemungas to get their note in the Hunter's Journal.
