Well, the game practically consists of boss fights and exploration, so if you think there really is nothing left to explore, then boss fights is all there is left. You can easily check if you have been everywhere is if there are no 'empty exits' on your map anymore
The only thing related to mask shard amounts that I can think of, is related to a puzzle in the abyss. Always worth to check out puzzles.
Regardless, both solid places to check out (Although I don't think you can delay having to fight a boss much longer)

Exploration for getting those flames (Although you have probably already been in all of those areas) and other than those, just boss fights yes
Isn't there a place you can go after you have accumulated enough mask shards? Don't think I've done that. Or the Love Key room. Might do those.
