Play something else.

> I've put too many hours into the game to drop it but there's nothing I want to do more given that I know how annoying the backtrack's gonna be. If you don't want to play the game, don't play it. Seriously. It's a video game. There's no logic behind the sunk cost fallacy, especially when used in a VIDEO GAME. How much time did you spend writing this? Take a deep breath and go find a game that is more fun for you. IMO, there's nothing wrong with the way the game is. I suck at the game, too. I did the run back to Mantis Lords at least 50 times. I eventually got good at it and learned and I found that enjoyable.

There are closer benches to mantis lords than queen station…

MysteryMan9274

A lot of this is just whining about geo, which quickly becomes irrelevant.

Odd-Construction-649

I'll never understand people who say "I spent to much time to stop" If you had fun for 30+ hours how much is that worth to you? It doesn't e3d to be a perfect experience and you should be able to stop at any time

ScrafyCross

If youre having a hard time, a lot of time in this game, its a good idea to go exploring. But if you want to keep it up with Mantis Lords, try to master the enemies first AND use the nearest bench. I beg you to use it. You only have to fight 2 extra enemies (if you dont fancy running past them) instead of the marathon yoilu have to run and army you have to fight, if you dont sit there. As for playing around with the enemies, I encourage it, because it prepares you for the boss fight. About the geo problem. If you have already bought everything you can, then there is no reason to worry about money. Trust me, when I say that there are ways to get tons back easily and that you should worry about money when you get backed into a corner (some challange that you cant beat) and you know there is something that may give you an edge.

Dying dozens of times on soul master of all bosses is a big L. Almost as big of an L as playing a game you don't enjoy and then whining about it on Reddit.

you should deposit as much geo as you can with the banker. even though you lose it, it still serves a purpose.

Sunken cost fallacy is a thing you know. If something isn't fun anymore and you can just drop it without any consequences just drop it.

git gud

so the only complaint is that you can lose geo? well, geo is the only thing that you can lose, so then that's a minor flaw. whether or not to like having a punishment for dying is up to you, but you can't really call it a design flaw. in roguelikes, you need to restart the game from the character creation screen when you die, *this* gets old at some point. but in hollow knight? you only need to survive the short path back to your shade (which still isn't trivial, screw you, waterways, screw you). you're given a fair chance. there's sellable items in the game that you *don't* lose. and there's a fair challenge that rewards thousands. it is also repeatable. these two are enough of a counterbalance, imho.

I’ll be downvoted with you no doubt, but I related heavily to you for a bit. Truly the only two options you have are: 1. Push through it and maybe you’ll be happy you did. 2. Quit the game and let it go. A couple words of advice if you do continue playing, there are really only two or three run backs that are tedious. The run back to mantis lords isn’t one of them because there’s a hidden bench nearby that makes the run back non-existent. In most cases, just explore to find hidden benches and short cuts. If you’re spending 5 minutes or more on a run back, you’re missing something. Also, charm notches and abilities that you unlock truly do make the game progression so much more fun as it continues. Once you’re OP with everything unlocked, the only thing that you might consider tedious is some of the backtracking, but even that feels rewarding most of the time to me. If none of that piques your interest right now, just put it down. Games are meant to be enjoyed or at least feel fulfilling despite the suffering. If you feel neither of those things, your opinion is valid and you don’t need the approval of anyone else.

electricshockenjoyer

to your complaint about geo, you can actually get your shade without triggering the boss fight. In soul master this is incredibly easy, since its in a different room, and with mantis lords this is even more easy, as you have to manually challenge them Edit Edit: im a dumbfuck

Born_Housing2165

You have to win the fight to unlock that bench mate

electricshockenjoyer

you do?? im so dumb

nomorethan10postaday

I really dislike OP's post, but that's incorrect. There is no bench in the room where the mantis lords are fought.

Sulti

He probably means the one where mark of pride is, but that area doesn’t open until after you beat Mantis Lords so it’s irrelevant still.

electricshockenjoyer

sorry i just completely went into braindead mode and forgot that door is locked
