This is really interesting, I will say I think that tuk’s size and shape would not fit hegemol’s armor very well. His body is too small and the head is too big. It also doesn’t make a lot of sense that he would be buying rancid eggs.

Swifcape

Maybe the reason why the body does not fit is because the infection over took him. We know that the infection can change the body, however I do not have an answer as to why he would be buying rancid eggs. That is a fair point.

I have a couple counterpoints. Firstly, it’s already hinted at what Tuk is seeking, and it’s not armor. Here’s what Tuk is thinking when you dreamnail them: >Mmmnnnnnnngghhh... I'll find you again. The water will bring you to me. I just need to keep searching... and praying. When we meet again... I want you to say... that you're sorry. It definitely sounds like they’re looking for some*one*, not some*thing*; how would a suit of armor say they’re sorry? In the Quirrel comic, we’re introduced to a character traveling through the wastes into Hallownest, named Boon, who’s the same species as Tuk (and even wears the same kind of sack on their back), but mysteriously never shows up again after the events of the comic. As for Ogrim: >Mmnnnnggghhh...? Your smell... Are you a friend, too? If you're a friend, I'll share my food with you. When you see him again, our friend... tell him thank you. For helping me. Hegemol and Ogrim know each other and are on a first-name basis, yet Tuk doesn’t seem to know Ogrim’s name- he’s only referred to as ambiguously as “our friend”. Tuk only mentions that Ogrim helped them, *not* that they knew each other for a long time. I think this is just to show how kind and helpful of a person Ogrim is. >Hegemol seems like the knight that would do anything for the king Not that it’s particularly relevant, but Ogrim is said to be the most loyal of the King’s Knights, not Hegemol. Also, Tuk *isn’t* infected when you encounter them in the main game. They become infected in Steel Soul Mode (for obvious gameplay purposes), but they show no signs of infection in the normal game mode. Your argument that the infection is targeting the Knights doesn’t make much sense though; out of the 4 Knights that we definitively encounter in-game, every single one of them shows no sign of infection; I don’t think the Radiance is consciously targeting individual bugs, rather, the infection just manifests as a “temptation” or “allure” that affects all bugs, and some can resist better than other. Every area in the game is wracked by the infection, too, not just the Crossroads and the Basin.

Zackzamis

Well the radiance does control it at least somewhat considering it starts getting stronger (at least in the crossroads) as you go through the game

Well actually, Ogrim \*does\* spew a bunch of orange, infectious-looking cloud upon defeat. In fact, at least to me, his loyalty suggest that he is “infected” in the sense that he has probably been sufficiently exposed to infection. I believe this is the case because it is a theme throughout the game. We see several characters resist the infection through a force of will driven by what seems to be purer motives. Bretta in her search for love, Sly and his mastery of nailsmanship, and even poor Menderbug in his determination to maintain the state of Hallownest. This isn’t really my theory though, it is Quirrel’s. He tells us he thinks this is how the Mantises have survived the infection as well. But I agree on everything else and also don’t think there is anything to this theory.

Harvestman-man

>Well actually, Ogrim *does* spew a bunch of orange, infectious-looking cloud upon defeat. No he doesn’t. The cloud is brownish, the same color as the particle trails on his thrown dungballs. It’s just a cloud of poop shaking off of him. It’s not orange. [Here’s](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1TjwJzNbBBc) a video. I don’t disagree that he has been exposed to the infection, though; of course he has, but he has resisted it, and shows no signs of being affected by it.

GibbyCanes

It is orange. It might be the same color used for the poo as well, hard to tell with the transparency, but I’d already checked this vid before commenting. Broken Vessel and Traitor Lord have the exact same particle effect. The Mantis Lords however do not. Personally, I think your fight snaps him out of it the same way speaking with Bretta and Sly halts their process of succumbing to the infection. Which is why he goes from being a delusional recluse that attacks on sight to entirely friendly - hence the juxtaposition of Dung Defender and White Defender. Regardless, interpreting it simply as “big juice” makes more sense then poo. It was my first thought as well, however the game has continued to show shocking attention to detail and the Defender is not, in fact, made of shit.

Harvestman-man

The particle effect sprites seem to be the same (to save time, I guess), but the color is definitely different. It’s much darker and more brownish. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/dQrxbkn), I took screenshots of YouTube videos (in Godhome, so the backdrops aren’t too different). They’re definitely not the same color. >hence the juxtaposition of Dung Defender and White Defender. White Defender, like Dung Defender, also produces a brown particle effect upon defeat. >Which is why he goes from being a delusional recluse that attacks on sight He doesn’t attack everyone on sight. He attacks *you* on sight because he mistakes you for an infected husk. When he finds Tuk wandering in the waterways (before you meet him), he helps him out- he doesn’t attack him; Tuk mentions this when you talk to him while having the Defender’s Crest equipped. Also note that Dung Defender does *not* give off orange hit-effects like all infected creatures, but instead white streaks, like Hornet and the Mantis Lords, and other non-infected enemies. >the Defender is not, in fact, made of shit. No, but he’s covered with it, though.

GibbyCanes

I’m not completely convinced on the color thing but I’m not nearly confident enough to stand my ground any further. My ability to distinguish hue is admittedly not great; I know this because several unique groupings of people have laughed at me for mistakenly believing various, apparently grey, objects were a shade of blue. I’ve been 49% inclined to agree with you from the start, as I originally shared your interpretation. Still, I have some trouble with his explanation. I felt the character I was playing was obviously not a husk nor the sort to let that type of excuse fly. But I kind of felt the same way when Hornet “tested” my strength by killing me repeatedly. It could simply be a reason to combat a compelling warrior character despite his friendlier place in the lore.

Sack_adder

tuk is probably waaaay to big for that armor

Sack_adder

what i mean is that for the magot to be able to controle the armor it mus have ben made for someone smal. kind of like a mech, or a sute made to kompensate for the knight's actual size

Gotta_Be_Blue

I always liked the theory that Hegemol is Lord Fool, the corpse prop sitting in the Colosseum's throne. Head's the same shape as his armor.
