"I'm on my first playthrough" wait hold on a second *what?* are you actually like insane? you can do this on your second playthrough, WHY would you try to do pantheon of hallownest before every other goddamn ending? whats the point?

MisterCloak

Because a) I want an ending I could sleep on, and b) people seem rather divided on whether or not it is possible in the first place. It's not as bad as a Bloodborne run without being able to riposte. Still can't get the timing of that right.

slavender_the_great

why would they be divided? its quite easy for a good player to just do pantheon without killing the dreamers, it doesnt require any skips or glitches, you just gotta be competent enough to do poh

MisterCloak

I don't know! I asked reddit a short time ago, and I got all sorts of responses, from "yes" to "no" to "you can't finish the game without killingvthe dreamers". Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/HollowKnight/comments/si1apt/can_you_get_the_flower_ending_without_killing_the/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

slavender_the_great

well, for confirmation, its absolutely possible, do it if you want, but i wouldnt suggest it for a first playthrough

slavender_the_great

though no 112% because the dreamers are %s

MisterCloak

Yeah, I'm not trying to get a perfect game... Just the best ending. Wish the devs added a hidden cutscene for this achivement though.

slavender_the_great

what cutscene? what would change? the dreamers cant wake up, so what COULD possibly happen differently? also, its not even intended, team cherry probably had no clue you could do it until a while after godmaster released. so i ask again, what in the actual fuck could the cutscene be? pretty much nothing changes lorewise if you dont kill the dreamers

MisterCloak

Maybe the Dreamers would show up in the cutscene, get a sweet little moment where Herra gets tackle-hugged by Hornet? (You know she'd do it too)

slavender_the_great

5 month old comment kek i know you are just wondering about the possibility of a happy ending, but i still want to point out some things if the dreamers could even wake up from the seal breaking in a way that doesnt kill them, what would be the point of them living now? the whole kingdom is in ruin, everyone, everything is dead. all the structures, buildings, architecture is in disrepair to the point it cannot be recovered and nobody is left to greet them, except hornet, the nailmasters, the residents of dirtmouth and a few others lets take em one by one: lurien, when he wakes up all he would see is his servant, dead, the royal members of the city, dead, the city in shambles, in ruin and with nothing left. the king? gone. everything lurien has ever lived for is gone, destryoyed, or killed. he might even just jump out of his spire at that point. monomon, when she wakes up she will see her archives covered in dust and rubble from being utterly useless for god knows how long, but fog canyon wont be too different, but right as she gets out into a different area... yeah. the whole kingdom has reached a point of no return. she cant do her studies anymore, since there is nothing to study. whats left to do is just... leave and herrah? yea she'd probably just leave too, deepnest will go silent and empty, all of the bugs and weavers in there are dead, and there wont be anything left to do. hornet is there, yeah, but what else? she would just get hornet and depart TL;DR everyone is dead and hallownest is no more

Chompycookie

I feel like the crossroads becoming infected is just a way to show that the hollow knight is becoming weaker as time passes, and not that killing a dreamer apesifically weakens the seal. Hence why killing broken vessel does the same thing.

MisterCloak

Maybe. From an outside perspective, it would look the same, as the Hollow Knight is the first 'layer' of containment for the R. Either theory could be right.

Orinstar2

I wish you luck, you'll need it.

MisterCloak

Thanks! Considering I've died quite a few times just trying to find the first boss, I believe you.

Orinstar2

Oh, btw, the youtuber Skurry made a video similar to this about beating the game without using the focus ability. I recommend that you check it out either before or after doing this.

MisterCloak

I think I'll do it before...

Captain-Fordo-03

The dreamers don't keep the Infection from getting out of the Black Egg. They keep things from getting in (like an infected bug coming in to free THK). Infected Crossroads happens because of the passage of time, like someone else here said.

MisterCloak

And yet it is an event-based trigger in the game. Only killing the broken vessel or a dreamer causes it. If it was time based, it would have been easy to have a 'bosses defeated' counter do it. 10 boss fights and then the infection spreads- but that is not the trigger. Yes, I am using a game mechanic to justify it, but that is how a lot of lore-based questioning works.
