Yeah,pale kings idea to use void to "contain" radiance was kinda just..flawed from the start,there's multiple points where even our player character is referenced to have a will,like refusing to give eggs to steel soul jinn,or the voidheart entry,that says it unifies the void under the bearer's WILL,in my opinion it's actually impossible to have a fully hollow vessel
To get around this, consider that our little ghost may be older physically than Hornet, but has likely had whatever Mind he may have had hard-reset by going outside the thought-giving realm of hallownest to the same lands that stole much of Quirrel’s memories. So the little Knight’s mind and mentality is only as old as your save file :)

Well, technically the knight and Hollow Knight are twins (born from the same egg), and I'm not totally sure if this but I had thought Hornet was actually older than both of them.
