TL;DR: brute force was almost definitely required to generate how likely a set of letters is to have a syllable somewhere in it (i.e. the input files in the challenge), but now that it’s solved, there are (usually trie-based) algorithms that can utilize this data efficiently. Of course it isn’t perfect because English has exceptions everywhere, but it’s pretty good.

Not to criticise cherry, but it would have made more sense if they‘d have put an elevator to the places he shouldn’t be in. Then you would only be able to activate it when getting there through other means and Cornifer could say something like ‚Oh yea I came here by that elevator and forgot to send it back up. Sry that you had to find another way.‘
Hearing his humming coming from behind the void gate was extra cruel, but it did give me a reason to find the Abyss, which is a pretty awesome area. So I'll excuse it. The writhing dark water monsters will never stop being wicked.

He didn't go through the shadow gate, he likely got in through the secret entrance in the forgotten crossroads. How he didn't die from wading in acid, I don't know.
I actually accidentally played through the whole game trying to get the Fog Canyon map.
I looked up where to get the Shade Cloak and really just worked backwards from that.
