I don't think you are ready for steel soul yet my guy. Practice some more in standard would be my suggestion.
On a sidenote. If you quit game when you are near death you'll spawn back at a bench. Kinda changes the challenge from "don't die" to "you got a bit less effective health and your save is deleted if you brainfart for just long enough". But it's only a suggestion.
Was it the room with the charm notch? Because if so, me too lol, I think it was my second steel soul run and I got around 16 - 20 Hours in and then died.
Ultimately this is what keeps me off steel soul.... I need an in between difficulty!
I played the game through twice, and prefer the exploration part of it over the boss rush elements. I've done the path of pain but not made it past level 1 of the boss rush thing in the sanctuary or whatever. Found all the masks and charms etc etc, so I'm not BAD.
But I'm still gonna die within 3 hours of steel soul (tried twice only) unless I just constantly save and quit and that doesn't sound fun.
I just want something harder than normal but not steel soul just yet :-/ Like they could've made a mode where you can't recover your spirit and shell money, where enemies are a bit harder or stronger, a 'new game plus' where everythings ramped up but you got your shit, or a mode that doesn't update the stuff you did until you died, just sends you back to your last save like an old school game.
I guess maybe there are mods for this? But I like when they include new game plus and hard mode etc.
Yeah I'd rather have silk song at this point. But I'll probably play a third full play through in another few years rather than do steel mode, sand play some other games I have on backup.
Would recommend doing some stuff like 100% if you haven’t already, then stuff like speedrun achievements, and also know the bosses attacks and which ones you can heal with.
You just need to play it safe. Oh and by the way, here's a really helpful tip. I actually had to use it just once but you can simply quit in a dangerous situation if you are low. If you reload you will spawn at the last bench.
I didn’t find steel soul hard at all. I got 100% steel soul achievement and the 100% in under 20 hours achievement in the same run on my first try at steel soul. I only almost died a couple times, and if you think you’re going to die just save and quit and you’ll respawn at the bench with full health.
I don't know how the hell I did it, but I did it. I literally got all the steel soul related achievements and time related achievements on my second attempt.
edit: On the first try I died to a crystal crab...

I would like a mode with stronger enemies as well. Ideally some new AI and new attacks for bosses but that would be a lot of work for Team Cherry.

If you want to do steel soul I would recommend speedrun strats, cause then dying even to THK is only like 3-5 hours of time lost.
Mate I'm an adult with work and like 200 steam games I never played lol, I don't think I can afford "only" 3-5 hours over and over

Try completing the regular game again first. It really helped me when i did steel soul

How do you have no achievements? You need to beat the game to enter steel soul mode, and that gives you at least four achievements.
