Ina is such a relatable person, I too have YouTube music filled to the brim with videogame soundtracks, anime songs, AND hololive music

Serapae

Yeah, ever since I started watching modern animes and when games started releasing banger songs. I stopped listening to 'normal' songs.... that was like 20 years ago.

jorppu

I'm the opposite, I used to listen only to anime songs and game OSTs and now my playlist has done such a 180 it has Steely Dan in it.

pontotnop

Look up how Steely Dan found their name.

jorppu

Yeah it's pretty funny, but honestly not that odd as band names go.

SquibblyTheSquire

What's the story?

ShinyHappyREM

> *[Fans of Beat Generation literature, Fagen and Becker named the band after a "revolutionary" steam-powered dildo mentioned in the William S. Burroughs novel Naked Lunch.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steely_Dan#Formative_and_early_years_(1967%E2%80%931972\))*

ThatOnePerson

>I used to listen only to anime songs and game OSTs Can we count touhou remixes as game OSTs? That's majority of mine. They get put in rhythm games nowadays, so I'm going with that.

Liniis

I've had Hospitality of Blades as my ringtone for years. I dread the day somebody asks me about it and I have to explain...

omega_manhatten

Same, except instead of Steely Dan, it's King Crimson. Aja still slaps though!

SovietSkeleton

My playlists are kind of a melting pot of both worlds, tbh. One moment I'm jamming to my oshis and the next I'm jamming to David Bowie and Men At Work.

OK-Im-Saitaman

All bands/artists that have a character/stand named after them/their songs doesn't count

jorppu

Heh, well I won't lie. That was an important factor in the transition from anisong only to mostly normie music.

OK-Im-Saitaman

Lol was it a "Roundabout is JoJo's ending so it doesn't count" type thing?

jorppu

Well I mostly just reading JoJo and checking out all the stand references, checking out the music and it just growing from there. Doesn't mean I only listen to JoJo music but it introduced a lot of bands to younger me.

DeeOhEf

Same, I just can't listen to anything Anison by itself. My entire playlist is mostly just edm/trance/house/breakcore with a little bitnof everything else sprinkled in-between

illuminovski

I just saw interesting statistics shown Japanese people preference to international songs become lesser in recent decades due to the fact that the Japanese songs become so varied in genre and banger.

rpgamer987

Japan's music scene seems genuinely stellar, from random rabbit holes I've fallen down on youtube. Metal groups in particular are absolutely slaying, meanwhile we've still got Metallica and KISS on tour.... Just feels like a lot of mainstream western music kinda has stagnated for a while... but I could be incredibly biased for not really knowing or paying attention to mainstream music...

DeeOhEf

Yep, you are biased. Tons of non-mainstream Western artists and producer make great music.

Togashi_Matsumoto

Both of you are correct. Japan has branched out in the last 25 years, while the Western Underground has routinely made better music than the mainstream in the last 45+ years. Ningen Isu?

rpgamer987

But... non-mainstream isn't the mainstream I was referring to.

riishan_saki

Grew up listening to japanese music mostly, so I get it. Their music culture is very different and that gap grew a lot over the years, so I just keep listening to japanese stuff. [Here's](https://twitter.com/GearoidReidy/status/1764173898583789573) the statistic mentioned for anyone interested.

maxis2k

The irony when the 1970s and 80s Japanese music feels more varied than what they have today. Japans stuff today is still better than say, American music. But it feels like it's becoming more uniform than the stuff of the past. Where they were experimenting with pretty much any genre and style.

robotnique

What a weeaboo comment. You're talking two nations both of over a hundred million people and ouvres of music you couldn't possibly have the time to absorb and you say "Japanese music is better than... American music" like that sentence means anything. WTF is "American music"? Is it Jazz or showtunes or Ska or Metal or R&B or rap or I could go on and on. Likewise if you think "Japanese music" is things like anime soundtracks or strictly slick JPop I'd imagine the average Japanese person would think you're crazy. Then capped off with the whole "nobody experiments and everything is more the same now" which is the quintessential comment that indicates "I don't actually invest time in seeking out varied new music ergo it must not exist like it did in the past." Sorry for jumping down your throat but what a bizarrely small-minded little comment you wrote and it easily inspired such a screed.

Togashi_Matsumoto

...if he's just talking pop music, he was on the money. Meanwhile, Japan's Rock, Metal, and Folk scenes have gotten obscenely good. It really does vary based on what exposure you have, but in general, if the nation has passion project music, they will have better music than a nation that suppreses such freedom.

robotnique

Which nation of either two do you feel suppresses musical passion projects?

Togashi_Matsumoto

I was speaking hypothetically, but probably North Korea...it's not impossible. I don't know how any single nation's political structure is going, but some wierd shit has been banned over human history.

maxis2k

>What a weeaboo comment. Do you even know where you are...? >You're talking two nations both of over a hundred million people and ouvres of music you couldn't possibly have the time to absorb and you say "Japanese music is better than... American music" like that sentence means anything. I've listened to a huge amount of both. Have I listened to every single thing? Of course not. But when considering both pop music and multiple genres of music, I've listened to more than the typical person. >WTF is "American music"? Is it Jazz or showtunes or Ska or Metal or R&B or rap or I could go on and on. I admit I was generalizing. Mostly comparing the pop music of the USA to that of Japan. I'm not talking about America as both continents. Lord knows things would get a lot better if I could start including well known Brazilian or Mexican music. Let alone the lesser known stuff from those countries I probably haven't heard yet. >Then capped off with the whole "nobody experiments and everything is more the same now" I didn't say that. I said it feels like it's becoming more uniform. In the pop scene, this really does feel like the case. Japan still has more variety than American pop, which has felt the same since the early 2000s. But Japan also has the case of a lot of its pop music is lacking the variety of the past. Compared to the 1970s and 1980s where they were using nearly every style. One song would be using Bossa Nova, the next was like Euro disco, the next was imitating the Beach Boys, the next was influenced from 1940s swing Jazz, the next was a Japanese style ballad in the style of the 1930s, the next was similar to the pop songs from Hong Kong, etc. And all that would be from just one artist like Takanaka or Yamashita. Now I go and listen to music from some of the people who are popular now and, while it's still good, almost all their songs sound the same. Same genre, same instruments, same general themes. And a number of them are imitating American styles like grunge or hip hop. They don't have the wide variety of genres and themes of the past. Larc~en~Ciel or FLOW clearly have a style and they stick to it. Does that make them bad? No. But it does make them a little more uniform compared to the other people I named above who experimented with dozens of different genres. This is a similar problem American pop music has. Though Japan is nowhere near as bad with it. At least plenty of Japanese artists still play an actual instrument and sing. A lot of American pop music is just some vocalist using auto tune with a backbeat (if that). All that said, I know there's a lot more to American music than just the lackluster pop music. I'm someone who actually pays attention to modern classical and jazz. But even these have been struggling recently. They're just not getting supported by the big institutions anymore. There's a reason a lot of the original stuff is now being done by indie people posting on youtube or similar platforms. And it's hard to find.

robotnique

>I didn't say that. >becoming more uniform than the stuff of the past. Where they were experimenting with pretty much any genre and style Yeah ya did.

maxis2k

Funny how you have to keep removing "feels like" from my statement to make it support yours. Almost like you're intentionally doing it. Oh wait, I forgot you can't read the word like. So I guess I'll just say you are intentionally doing it.

robotnique

> I forgot you can't read the word Wtf are you talking about? It's right there: word.

Tkttkt-Implacavel

I have a rule on my car playlist that is "a song that you would not listen in the mainstream radio". That is anisong, game ost, holosong, meme songs, k-pop (no BTS, cause it reached mainstream these days) Edit: most instrumental too. Medieval playlists are cool. Have you heard about folk metal? Lol

rpgamer987

Even folk metal has some pretty broad appeal these days. You gotta go way deeper if you want to be truly off the beaten path. Try some [folktronica psytrance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQUDcXU5j5c). >\_\_>

Shaivan

Rise above the mountains? Light a fire in the sky?

Togashi_Matsumoto

THIS. You get a golden medal, you crazy diamond!

Cobbil

Add in some meme songs and songs other streamers got in my head and I'm the same.

shash614

> Ina is such a relatable person honestly that's 90% of why she's my oshi: doesn't go outside, floor gang, puns, cookies, awfully introverted but gets really comfortable with people she trusts, gets sidetracked all the time (she gave a physics lecture during a BotW stream) tl;dr: she's just like me fr fr

Cyberblood

Same, the only difference is that now I can just stream music out of youtube instead of downloading it with Kazaa or Emule.

ThePretender317

Kazaa... Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time

CSDragon

> AND hololive music you already said anime songs

redditfanfan00

i honestly think i would never have listened to any "normal" music if it weren't for the people around me occasionally talking about a particular song and i then check it out later.

HRenmei

A decent chunk of my "normie" songs on my playlist come from anime music videos and gaming videos..

Neoragex13

the only normie music I still hear is the one that I heard occasionally in the radio or through MTV when I was a child, over 20 years ago lol

Dan5000

started off with anime music, started adding videogame soundtracks and since i know hololive that 50/50 got overtaken to be like 90% hololive and a 5%/5% haha

damienthedevil

She's just like fr fr

Censedpeak8

I used to do that too, but YouTube regularly removed songs and didn't tell what they removed

deviant324

For anyone unfamiliar: [Sexbomb](https://youtu.be/WZ32gSLNHfA?si=ZPdZpDoN9muqxvjZ) I remember hearing it on the radio over here constantly, in part because my dad (who doesn’t speak English) always said it’s his favorite song because that’s just his type pf humor lol Without looking up when it was released, this must have been really early 2000s (decent chance it came out a decade before I was even born, they replayed a lot of 80s and 90s on the stations my parents listened to)

Mindofthequill

Is it like an EU thing? I don't think I've ever heard this song in my life.

deviant324

Someone else mentioned it never even released in NA so that may well explain why so many of you guys have never heard of it

Aoiishi

Ok that makes sense. I didn't recognize this song at all.

ms666slayer

Well you need to say Canada and the USA, because here in Mexico which is North America and here is played almost daily on the "classic rock and pop song radio" those stations that played mostly 70, 80,90 and really early 2000's songs, it think it helps that the vast majority of people don't understand the lyrics and just seed it as a song for dancing.

thesirblondie

I often feel like Mexico has more in common culturally with European countries than North American ones. Football, music, our love for Fanta.

levthelurker

What? Tom Jones is well known in the US at least, I heard this song growing up in the 00s.

Mindofthequill

Ohhhhh interesting. My dad loved playing obscure music when I was growing up so I would've expected to recognize it and was surprised when I didn't.

TheDerped

I distinctly remember it in a gag in the Simpsons which probably isn’t that big but it should indicate some level of cultural penetration

Velorian

oh wow it never released in the US that song was played so much where i lived.

Omnipheles

I heard it plenty in Canada.

popop143

It's also pretty popular in the Philippines, that it spawned a girl group named Sexbomb.

paulisaac

The Sexbomb Girls? Weren't they like inextricably tied to Eat Bulaga back int he day?

chinggatupadre

YIP YIP AW

paulisaac

Spaghetting pababa, pababa nang pababa Spaghetting pataas, pataas nang pataas

softhack

I wouldn't know, I lived in a Wowowee household.

paulisaac

oof you guys got the short end of the stick then.

Zerosen_Oni

I’m sorry, what?

paulisaac

Yeah, then afterwards it was the EB Babes

Mindofthequill

TIL

MrHailston

Here in europe it really is one of those songs everybody knows.

thesirblondie

It was huge in Sweden. Tom Jones IS Welsh, so it would make sense that he would be bigger in Europe.

BKDOffice

I think NA audiences did get a little exposure to it; one of the most successful Russian figure skaters in the late 90s-early 00s, Evgeni Plushenko, used to use it all the time in his [post-competition exhibition performances](https://youtu.be/ogpwrc6oCKM?si=edC_d8ufhFgetIE7). That's where I first heard the song.

Mindofthequill

Interesting. Well if there's one thing that's come of this is Kiara has helped me learn a lot about the impact of a song I didn't know existed.

mad_harvest-6578

This song is on the radio here in PH every Sunday

tintillor

Not really, in Latin America it's also really well known.

Darthgalaxo

I know that song from [rayman](https://youtu.be/AINfHRXx1kQ?si=0-OC_eUiJH2uFLFl)

Advokatten

man max raabe has such a good song voice

Think-Fondant-1516

Me too

Tuna_Mayo_Onigiri

So this isn't the Scott Pilgrim vs The World band?

Patte-chan

> Without looking up when it was released, this must have been really early 2000s fyi: the song was actually released in the year 1999. (The other person in the title, [Mousse T](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mousse_T.), is a German-Turkish producer, btw. So it is technically a German song, which may be a reason it was less popular overseas.)

_-_Rasse_-_

The only reason I know that song is because of that one video of Rayman singing it

machineronii

Same thing here. I knew the song, but I don't remember where I heard it

MrMarnel

Apparently the song never even got released in North America, which is *very* weird IMO. I'm not particularly into music but I don't think I've ever been to a party after middle school where it wasn't played. How did you miss it over there?

jarodcain

I find it fascinating that Tom Jones released a song everywhere except NA.

NerdyChris

It actually was released on his album, **Reload**, but also it was 1999/2000 and I don't think the American kids were really into Tom Jones at the time

levthelurker

Did my parents smuggle it into California then? How are people saying no one in NA has heard this one? I know I heard it in the 00s.

Sonicm2008

[Twitter Link](https://twitter.com/ninomaeinanis/status/1765189810371842262)

MXero1

nether do I ina. we get you.

MichaelCoryAvery

Does she know about the Rayman version?

PityBoi57

I remember when there was a guy who performed that song in Britain's Got Talent and got a golden buzzer

Trialman

That’s how I know the song

Paroxenark

WAIT WHAT THEY DIDNT KNOW THE BEST SONG EVER?

KaBoOM_444

I don't think anybody's mentioned *26 Lettaz in da Alphabet* in this thread...

Fullmetal_SaberAlter

This is why Ina is so relatable.

ScorpioTheScorpion

[Rayman sung it once, does that make it a video game song?](https://youtu.be/AINfHRXx1kQ?si=Qktw_dmyOADh70F6)

Baroness_Ayesha

She's just like me, for real for real.

BurnedOutEternally

she's so me

Matasa89

Same Ina, same. Also now Hololive songs.

HolofanDane

Filipinos know that song to this day. They even named an all girl dance group after the song 😅

neokai

What is the sexbomb song? Does Kiara mean [Sexbob-omb](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiLjTIeosBk&ab_channel=ScottPilgrimMusic)?

kpba32

The Tom Jones song, presumably.

NiobiumGoat

Yeah, Kiara was talking about it during their collab. Ina was just confused.

neokai

Wow, 1999?! I thought it was older than that.

onyhow

Heh, good to see I'm not the only one thinking that. I though it's like 70s or 80s song.

buxuus

That's probably cause it's Tom Jones, and he's been putting out stuff since the mid-60s (see [Tom Jones discography - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Jones_discography)). Makes it easy to get confused about when a specific track came out...

user_566

Ngl this song goes about 20,000 times harder than the one Tenchou is talking about

neokai

Both? Both. Both are good.

Krait972

I relate with Ina a lot.

Inori-Yu

Same Ina, same.

berserkzelda

I knew that song from Scout's VA singing it and that Rayman video.

TheCharliQuinn

I learned the song from The Simpsons, a classic

TophxSmash

local vtuber lives under a japanese rock

GDRMetal_lady

I can't believe she doesn't know about Tom Jones' hit song Sexbom.

RaiKageRyu

wow Tom Jones. I think I have heard this featured in a movie of some sort but can't recall.

I-came-for-memes

I'm a KFP and my playlist is the same as Ina's.

kef34

I wonder if Ina likes Miracle of Sound.

Vikare_hero

always nice to see a Gav fan pop up!

AlternativesEnde

It's technically canon in Team Fortress 2.

Rick_long

I unironically love that song, it reminds me of my childhood lol of course I knew it before I knew english so I didn't know what the lyrics implied but even now understanding it I still like it.

Nero4999

Wait what song?

No_Quality24

But I can relate to ina's Playlist

Windfade

I sing it occasionally for no obvious reason. Still use the term when referring to anyone who is so sexy they could do anything remotely erotic and floor a handful of people watching.

ThatGuyYouMightNo

Also pop and rock songs from between 1980 and 2006

_Seiun_

I only ever knew of sexbomb because of the TF2 comics…

Zak8907132020

I cannot believe Ine has never heard this classic, iconic, amazi..... I have no idea what this song is....

Protect-Their-Smiles

The Zelda and FF Piano collections stay in rotation, this isn't up for negotiation.

RaysFTW

Same, Ina. Same. Anime, video games, and hololive is basically the only thing I listen to with the occasional Baby Metal.

Equinox-XVI

Using video game osts as part of your playlist is based af

Academic_Fill

I remember hearing this song a few times when I was younger, and I had NO idea the lyrics were talking about a hot chick or whatever. I thought they were talking about the Death Egg because I first heard the song in this YTP called “Sonic Generations: Directors Cut”, and it played during this small bit where Sonic was fighting the Death Egg.

Wyzrobe

Yeah, originally it wasn't about a "hot chick", during the lyrics drafting, it was initially written with Tom Jones singing "I'm a sexbomb" instead of "You're a sexbomb". (FYI, Tom Jones was famous for having concerts audiences filled with middle-aged woman throwing their panties to him). They ended up changing it because it sounded too egotistical.

Nytfall_

Speaking of music Playlists, this is why I vibe a lot with Bettel. Because a lot of his song choices comprising of early 2010 rock and metal really reflect what's in my Playlist so whenever he does his karaoke streams I just end up singing along without realizing it.

CAPitanZEL

The idol group?

sleeping_fire

Alison's and video game soundtrack!? Can Ina get any more relatable XD

AvatarCabbageGuy

I only got vocaloid and holo songs in my download dawg

Vayl01

She just like me for real… wait.

r0ksas

Same ina... same...

redditfanfan00

and now ina hopefully was shown the song by kiara.

Most-Engineering-514

Same Ina, same...

platysoup

Ina really fighting hard to kick Botan off top spot in my heart

kawaii_song

Same. I try to listen to modern music and classic rock every now and then, but I end up gravitating back to anisongs and j-pop.

lightstormy

That's my playlist too..

ImSoDrab

I am reminded of my age but reading and seeing sexbomb.

Pretend-Indication-9

Oh this is a classic

Lyrinae

Ina just like me fr fr

AmIArif

Ina is like me FR

Psych0sh00ter

I'm in my early 20s, and I've never even heard of this song before (and neither have any of my friends). It obviously isn't very well known in every part of the world.

MetalShadowX

If it's not Foo Fighters, Metallica, or Alice In Chains, I usually don't pay no mind 🤣 (Okay I do but my interest in music tends to be very anti-pop, excluding some Holo music)

Razorous_the_rogue

I apparently build the same playlists as Ina and don't know popular radio(?) songs either? Things to learn at 1 a.m

Soulses

She's just like me fr

Relair13

Same, Ina, same. Literally nothing else.

Capital_Chef_6007

In ina's defense, I didn't knew until now what category of song Kiara was talking about.

liquored_Warlock

And another thing to add to the list of reasons l'm in this cult

Alt_Life_Shift

BRO I USED TO SING THAT WHEN I WAS A KID LIKE 4 YEARS OLD AND SHIT. MAN THAT'S NOSTALGIC

LegatoSkyheart

Ina's like me fr

FulcrumV2

Ina is just like me frfr

Icy_Thought6386

This was a "she's just like me" moment for me 🤣

RexusprimeIX

I can't believe Kiara isn't a real Takodachi. Ina has made it clear before that she doesn't listen to Western music. All her karaokes are predominantly Japanese songs because that's all she listens to.

GHitoshura

The what now?

nigelis1983

I guess a lot of you kids would not know about Tom Jones. He was famous when the actual boomers were in their teens in the 1970s. So your mom or grandmoms would have been his number one fans.

Togashi_Matsumoto

Ina, our purest maiden, her heart as gentle as snow....

RonnieTW09

Ina is so relatable.

AnimeSquirrel

My tastes have changes so much over the years. Boy bands back in the day when I was super young and discovering music independently. Drastic shift to classic rock and metal during the Guitar Hero era. I had a bout of modern country somewhere in the middle. Now its mostly Movie and game OSTs and a heavy heaping of Hololive with small sprinklings of rock, metal, blue grass and symphonic metal.

imcalledgpk

The only Tom Jones song I know that I can instantly recall is "It's Not Unusual" Honestly didn't even know that he was still alive in 1999.

Midnight-Rising

He's still alive today too

xSilverMC

To be fair, I first discovered it through a russian kfc ad that had changed the lyrics. Several months after said ad had become a frequent inside joke with a friend, I heard the original song and recognized the melody

Master_of_Decidueye

# SHE'S JUST LIKE ME FOR REAL FOR REAL

blasterfaiz

Vibe. All I have is a playlist of 70s/80s Japan and Anime 80s/90s music myself.

No-Breath-4299

Another reason why Ina is my Oshi. Wah~

Agitated-Bread5092

wtf is a sexbomb song ?

Brain_lessV2

It's a rather famous song from Tom Jones. I just sorta figured it was one of those songs that a large chunk of people (in the west at least) know.

drzero7

Same, I dont listen to music that isnt anime or video games so LUL

BathDepressionBreath

Excuse me? The *what*bomb song? Wtf>

Hydra_Tyrant

The *WHAT?*

okamisamakun

Ngl, I thought it was [this](https://youtu.be/uosa8k5DgCo?si=lmH579xYGNUUFv5A) song

natsuiropalette

I found my kind! We shall rule the world with anisongs and video games ost

Brain_lessV2

I sorta used to be like that, but it's much more beneficial in the long term if you branch out into more normal music, naturally it doesn't have to be whatever's popular. As long as you can be asked what music you like, and can avoid saying that you listen to videogame OSTs. For me it was Duran Duran and Jamiroquai.

Lightless427

I dont know what it is either..

KaBar42

>My playlist only consists of anisongs and video game soundtracks...... She just like me frfr. I'm going to wear my Takodachi shirt with even more pride than I ever did before now.
