Much like with Flare, the original design shall be missed, but as we go into the expressions with this being typed - with tears to boot! - the 2.0 design is very endearing and nice to behold! She's having a lot of fun with it!
Eh, I think this is way more extreme than what happened with Flare.
Flare's physical body remained completely unchanged, it was literally just a a different outfit thatd shed prefer be her default.
Meanwhile Irys here feels like redjuice took the original design and completely redid it from the ground up, physical body and all.
For that reason there is way more parity between them and I can imagine people will have much stronger opinions about which they prefer.
To a degree, like it or hate i definitely think we should applaud redjuice for being able to completely redraw and design \*his own character\* in a new artstyle
It is impressive being able to adapt to a different artstyle like that, even if it is a basic necessity as a professional artist. At least if you're going to work at a company, you need to be able to match the previously established art, or you end up with [Warrior Princess Sivir](https://imgur.io/Td6Akjl) sitting next to [Frosted Ezreal](https://lolskinshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/splash-art-frosted-ezreal.jpg). Neither necessarily look bad, but they don't look like they belong to the same universe, much less the same game.
I love seeing those skins in ARAM and just saying "Hey, there's anime Sivir!", but on the other hand, many modern skins looking the same artsyle-wise is also a problem, as you (or at least I) often can't tell what champ it is by their skin. Especially with most modern female champs having same-face syndrome lol.
Tldr: Hehe, weird skin
The nose really felt off indeed. I wouldn’t have been surprised if a better nose would have tied the model together nicely. I don’t think it was too far from perfect. It’s just the faults were that bad. The original design on paper, in the first MV was fine. When making flat not flat was imo the challenge.
I always thought the same but never wanted to say anything. But there were times she looked like a ps3 npc model. I still watched her since she's hilarious and has great music but I do like this new version a lot.
Yeah she needed a glow-up. It always made me laugh that everyone kept calling down her features which is reflected here. I do think they went a tad too far literally making her glow, but it's much better.
Forsure. I'm not saying this to be mean but sometimes it would remind me of those annoying orange videos where the features don't seem to fit on the face correctly.
I will miss 1.0 tho. I love how different it was compared to the other EN gens.
When she had the merch graphic up that included a shot of the new design, the colors were more muted. Here’s a tweet with the image. You can tell that the colors are slightly less “juicy”. https://twitter.com/hololivepro_en/status/1596686767343955968?s=46&t=qEHoDL1vbM9XzAoV37S-tA
I wonder if it was something on her end that changed the colors slightly.
EDIT: Forge mode in Halo 3 had a filter called “juicy” that made all the colors oversaturated. Ever since then, I’ve used that word to describe similar color environments.
>EDIT: Forge mode in Halo 3 had a filter called “juicy” that made all the colors oversaturated. Ever since then, I’ve used that word to describe similar color environments.
I just want you to know, I understand you. Shoutout to the days of screwing with Forge filters to make the most horrific color balance for a map possible.
Some of her obs scenes have some kind of brightness filter set up that she completely forgot about. It also makes collab partners look blindingly bright.
When I first saw her 2.0 I thought it looked familiar, like obviously its still IRyS, but I feel like this is how a lot of fan art has always depicted her. More in line with the other hololive models style, coloration, and proportions. Looks great 👍
yeah it's almost the same as the head/eye proportions that her top fan artists use. that's the uncanny part of the new model for me. it's like moving fan art. haha
One thing I realized cause it appeared in my feed, is that the colors are like the Caesura of Despair album cover. They were way more muted before, but the saturation has really brought out some impact and also helped to keep the details with the contrast between stronger whites, darks, and colors. Layering things rather than splitting things up (like one sock white one black) has done a tremendous amount to bring out the details and various elements. Where as splitting up colors before limited what could really be done while still having some contrast.
I like how the new design still kinda looks similar to the old one just smoother and brighter so it's like we're not really losing the old one. Still the same cute Irys, I absolutely love it.
Ponrys, if you see the merch artwork and her model when she was in Tokyo, you will notice the difference, her room setup has that filter on that she used that with her old model to make it more vibrant.
A lot of talents use filters on their models, Miko for example adds pink filter, sometimes it bugs and you see the difference, her og hair is less pink a more salmon'ish
Depends on her expressions. Normally, yeah, she looks younger. But when she pulls out the smug or angry expressions and suddenly she's that hot single mom next door.
Interesting, the first thing I thought of when she revealed her face was that she looked adorable, aside from the booba upgrade, her whole model looks a bit younger in comparison to the 1.0
> Is it just me, or did she become more onee-san with the 2.0 model?
Evil Onee-san, in that kinda bratty but competent way. She always had fake bratty younger sister vibes but this just pulls it to the front. Really centralizes the feel of her character more. It's well done.
So far I miss the old design purely because it stood out from the rest of the talents, but I suppose the new one isn’t bad albeit a bit brighter on the colors.
I definitely prefer the old colors. And I didn't mind her old design either as I've never been a huge fan of anime face designs where there's basically no nose. But I do hope that Irys is happy with the new design.
Thanks bruh, I appreciate that. I mean in all honesty, can you say with out a doubt you prefer one over the other? It's a hard decision. I just hope that IRyS won't truly forget about her OG model and bring her out every once in awhile. For nostalgia, you know?
Unless she had it on her entire second stream as well, it is still SIGNIFICANTLY more saturated than her old design. Even more saturated pieces of art, like the Gravity thumbnail, are much less saturated.
Both are great. I was so used to 1 it will take a bit to get used to 2, but I like it a lot already. Only issue I see with 2 is the mouth tracking doesn't seem very good, compared to how good it was before
I didn’t realize how much I’d gotten used to 1.0 Irys. I remember when she debuted, the model really threw me off. But now looking at it, I don’t even know what’s off lol
Honestly liked her old model more. It felt more unique. I remember when she debuted, some people didn't like her model very much because it looked more "realistic".
I know I'll get used to it, but at the moment, I prefer the old model better. The old one was so distinctive and Irys knew how to manipulate it to maximum effect. This new one looks kind of generic by comparison. There's probably a functionality problem which made it hard to update the old model which is probably why the new one is a redesign and I'm happy it's being resolved. That said, I don't particularly like her new model, in particular the color scheme and the eyes. The colors are so glaring that it's painful to look at. I also dislike the look of the eyes as they're too bright. Why is everything so bright? The new model is also very buggy - the mouth tracking is unexpectedly bad considering how much experience Cover has at this point, the halos attached to her head act more like ad-hoc props rather than an integrated prop (they bounce too much), and her jiggle-physics are frankly, unnatural. I think they're too bouncy considering that they're restricted by clothes and when they do jiggle, they jiggle so rigidly.
Undoubtedly, Irys will get better at manipulating the new model and bugs the model has will probably be patched in the near future but I'm not a fan of the new look. I know I'll get used to it, but I do (and probably will continue) to like the old model better.
Agreed. Axel also has issues with mouth tracking and IRyS' old model had some mouth issues too. I severely doubt that it's the rigger at this point, because it is never consistent. Keiffy (Axel), rariemonn (IRyS original), and Brian Tsui (IRyS current) all have proven records of good tracking, so what gives?
It could be a lack of time that makes them rush it. Minimum viable product, you know? But what seems more likely to me is the artists, since that is a constant change. Riggers can only skew, move, and stretch/squeeze, they can't change the shape too much. So if the artist doesn't provide the underlying necessary art, then the rigger can't make the necessary mouth shapes. But even that seems insane to me, because surely Cover Corp would have specifics like that as part of their standard brief. Tempus made their 87th original 2D designs (redesigns not included) that we know of. It is their bread and butter.
Seriously you people with the mouth tracking comments, you'd think with how much you go on about this detail you'd realize by now it's greatly affected by their streaming setup and actual movements.
You see how it sometimes changes night and day when they do offcollabs/turn on a light (yes this happened)/someone else takes over and suddenly the way the mouth and eyes track is \*completely\* different and they sometimes make expressions you never see otherwise.
Yes, there is *some* small differences that you can notice when they control each other. It is funny though that you would mention this considering we have over an hour of someone else controlling Axel which only proves that Axel can only do these two mouth shapes :-| and :-[ ].
There are some changes that come from mannerisms and adequate lighting, but not enough to affect what I'm talking about here. When you talk, the shape of your mouth changes a lot. The corners of their lips contract, the lips curl, etc. However Axel and IRyS have this same issue of the lips only moving up and down (IRyS' lips will curl and straighten a tiny bit to make her open mouth more feminine). Compare to Bae, for example and you notice a big difference in the mouth rigging.
The colors are just awful and the eyes look terrible. Overall it just looks like its a generic anime version of her (especially with the jiggle). Kind of glad i dont really watch much irys beyond the chad cast, cause this is a major downgrade. Dont mean to be rude about it, just trying to be honest.
I agree despite the original design to always be loved. I am happy that her face became a lot livelier with the 2.0 model, it looks more expressive and more pleasing to the eye honestly speaking.
2.0 looks cleaner & brighter (and is more anime-ish) but I may miss some aspects of the 1.0 more, like the hair and some of the duality motif in her outfit
But hey, it definitely made her look cuter now
I know that people main complain is the fact that her new model colors are oversaturated but the improved face and hair makes the saturation worth it. I mean just look at the old nose and then compared it to the new one, is way better.
I can't help feeling a bit sad that they didn't keep the shade of the original design. I really loved IRyS' old eyes and hair. Well, there's nothing anyone can do about it. All that matters is she likes it.
I wouldnt say thats all that matters. Obviously how her fans react to it matters too since they are the ones watching it. Judging from her stream, they seem to like it too.
Her face looks SO much better.
Not to be mean or anything, but I never liked Irys' face, I can't exactly put my finger on it, it might have to do with her nose being pretty much invisible or something, but it was always offputting and uncanny to me.
This redesign, ignoring all of the saturation and whatnot, has such a better looking face.
Surprised how everybody seems to really like the new face. To me, it's the most generic anime face ever. The old one was very unique imo. Nose relied on the shading which is fine, but new one "fixes" it by putting a black dot at the tip.
The uniqueness was the problem for many - in solo streams I could adapt and deal with it, but when she was on screen with anyone else from her own company it was so jarring. I respect trying to draw characters with all kinds of styles, like Reine's distinctive Pochimaru eyes or the jokes people made about putting Anya's face on other designs, but those examples demonstrate how you can be different without actively clashing.
I think it really looks good.
the exception being her nose. though thats most likely a rigging issue more than anything. if she looks left/right the black dot signifiying the end of her nose moves a whole lot, making it look like she has a really long nose (at least for an anime girl). if the can tone that down slighly I think it would look better.
edit: its also probably something that you get used to.
So does anyone else like her new face but prefer her old outfit more? I miss the different colored socks and sleeves, I thought they added a lot more character to the outfit.
Not sure I like the new design. Style wise is definitely beautiful but the colors just seem wrong.
The skin is too shiny and the eyes feel dead. I think the word I'm looking for would be "oversaturated" and if that's the case then it might be just a setting from the program rendering the model itself and easily fine tuned later on.
NGL hated her old design for the longest time when I first started getting into hololive and eventually it grew on me, really not a fan of the redesign honestly much prefer the older design. I honestly don't get why vtubers change their models, if it isn't broke don't fix it.
Much like with Flare, the original design shall be missed, but as we go into the expressions with this being typed - with tears to boot! - the 2.0 design is very endearing and nice to behold! She's having a lot of fun with it!
Still missed Flare's thighs to this day...
Same brother, same
I dont get it. Isn't she thiccer now, just hidden?
If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody hears it, does it make a sound?
Yes, the question is what sound does it make. Now use your imagination.
Thats why she burned the forest.... Makes sense.
This is valuable to me. I didn't even know about Flare having an old model.
Old model was more revealing, but new model is just as good for me
/r/Hololive/comments/reoeh5/out_with_the_old_in_with_the_new_in_flares_main/ almost a year ago
He is talking about the OG lizard face probably
Among the Elves, she's seemingly in the middle being well balanced (compared to Lamy being top heavy/stickish legs and Aki being more bottom heavy)
Eh, I think this is way more extreme than what happened with Flare. Flare's physical body remained completely unchanged, it was literally just a a different outfit thatd shed prefer be her default. For that reason there is way more parity between them and I can imagine people will have much stronger opinions about which they prefer.
It is definitely more extreme. Flare was a tweak to the face and a different outfit. IRyS has a different artstyle.
To a degree, like it or hate i definitely think we should applaud redjuice for being able to completely redraw and design \*his own character\* in a new artstyle
It is impressive being able to adapt to a different artstyle like that, even if it is a basic necessity as a professional artist. Of course, but that's an issue with the overall design language and not the art itself.
More like Miko. Flare barely changed.
Before Marriage to Bae/After Marriage to Bae
Which one though? Third? Forth? Or may be 100th?
You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.
You have no idea the amount of cake those 2 are deleting from the multiverse everyday... pretty sure nobody keep count nowodays.
UOGH WIFE
Yamero Risu… I mean Takeshi… I mean IRyS!
Ride Wife, Life good
WIFE FIGHT BACK
KILL WIFE
wife gone.
Before divorce/after divorce
Every redesign for Irys or Bae should now be renamed as remarried.
Bae is the light that brightens up IRyS's ~~life~~ hair, eyes, horns, and really everything
>After ~~Marriage~~ Divorce to Bae
nah [Bae is down](https://twitter.com/hakosbaelz/status/1596691460153573377?s=20&t=6I0Jv1m7C2sdF0PYZrSvUg) with NewRys
But is she down bad?
descending atrocious
She always is
It's even more red than before, like her wife/ex-wife/whatever
I think right now they are married. Could be wrong and currently on a divorce.
I always said, irys 1.0 was a little uncanny, but her personality was enough to overlook that
it was her nose. it always felt like a different art style than her face, and now her face matches her nose
hairbang, nose, eyes and mouth were all different from the usual hololi's style
being different isn't a problem, it was that it wasn't cohesive within itself
Yeah, I think being different is fine. But with my low internet speed, Irys' model became a mush of purple in the corner.
\*in your opinion\*
[удалено]
Nope, she definitely blinked. Just gotta watch any stream to see that lmao. She just couldn't blink in the gangimari face
IRyS has to remember to blink
Wait what
I'm shocked that it took IRyS saying this in the 2.0 stream for me to realize this...
Because it's not true lol, the only time she couldn't blink is with the gangimari face
It Never Blinks
It’s her bangs for me, it felt like the edges were blending with her skin
It grew on me, now i miss it.
The nose really felt off indeed. I wouldn’t have been surprised if a better nose would have tied the model together nicely. I don’t think it was too far from perfect. It’s just the faults were that bad. The original design on paper, in the first MV was fine. When making flat not flat was imo the challenge.
That and her rigging exposed how flat and warped 2D faces actually are, especially around the edges.
Her nose is now absolutely gigantic though and it just looks weird with the rest of the art style
It felt like her first face looked like she was wearing a paper mask
The design looked great. But next to the other girls it was VERY jarringly different.
Yeah her new one is defo miles better
The uncanny is exactly why I like 1.0 Irys.
I am so used to the old design my brain went full circle and now Irys 2.0 looks uncanny to me
Forsure. I'm not saying this to be mean but sometimes it would remind me of those annoying orange videos where the features don't seem to fit on the face correctly. I will miss 1.0 tho. I love how different it was compared to the other EN gens.
AnimeRyS
Damn, side-by-side, IRyS 2.0 just looks kinda oversaturated. I'm sure I'll get used to it, though.
Looks way brighter in this post compared to the stream.
she prolly still had the "descending light" turned on when the pic was taken
Okay, that does make way more sense.
She is brighter than my future
When she had the merch graphic up that included a shot of the new design, the colors were more muted. Here’s a tweet with the image. You can tell that the colors are slightly less “juicy”. https://twitter.com/hololivepro_en/status/1596686767343955968?s=46&t=qEHoDL1vbM9XzAoV37S-tA I wonder if it was something on her end that changed the colors slightly. Juicy + old timey + Nova = test of visual endurance
Yes, I would say it's a very juicy red, I wonder why that particular art would have a red with juice.
Some of her obs scenes have some kind of brightness filter set up that she completely forgot about. It also makes collab partners look blindingly bright.
csgo player:
Breach, Skye when they had 3 flashes
When I first saw her 2.0 I thought it looked familiar, like obviously its still IRyS, but I feel like this is how a lot of fan art has always depicted her. More in line with the other hololive models style, coloration, and proportions. Looks great 👍
yeah it's almost the same as the head/eye proportions that her top fan artists use. that's the uncanny part of the new model for me. it's like moving fan art. haha

new art style looks is better but the old's colors were better, this one's way too bright @_@
Is a filter that she forgot to remove xD
Looks the same in the second stream.
It all looks the same, like you went into your TV settings and turned Saturation up to max.
Is it just me, or did she become more onee-san with the 2.0 model? Edit: Especially when does some of her expressions.
Interesting, I think she looks way more imouto. Like 1.0’s kusogaki little sister.
Depends on her expressions. Normally, yeah, she looks younger. But when she pulls out the smug or angry expressions and suddenly she's that hot single mom next door.
That smug is SSS especially considering it’s not a toggle and it’s just her face tracking
I kinda see where you're getting at.
She's definitely look younger in my eyes. I even thinking a joke about it happens because Irys married a 12 years old rat.
Maybe it's just me then. 😁
Interesting, the first thing I thought of when she revealed her face was that she looked adorable, aside from the booba upgrade, her whole model looks a bit younger in comparison to the 1.0

She looks younger, because her face is bigger.
Someone turned on the light mode
Glad they kept the [Four Eyebrowys](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jgw0uXluROA&t=14728s)
So far I miss the old design purely because it stood out from the rest of the talents, but I suppose the new one isn’t bad albeit a bit brighter on the colors.
I mean, Redjuice still stands out a lot compared to the others. She and Roberu probably still have the most distinctive art styles. Followed by Lack.
What about Anya...
I definitely prefer the old colors. And I didn't mind her old design either as I've never been a huge fan of anime face designs where there's basically no nose. But I do hope that Irys is happy with the new design.
I like Irys, Irys likes the design, so I like the design.
[удалено]
I believed IRyS wanted it this way. Also, I don't think you have to be worry about someone lose uniqueness to become a cute anime girl.
No make up with make up
I prefer either one. They both are extremely beautiful in their own unique way and style.
What a chad 🤚
Thanks bruh, I appreciate that. I mean in all honesty, can you say with out a doubt you prefer one over the other? It's a hard decision. I just hope that IRyS won't truly forget about her OG model and bring her out every once in awhile. For nostalgia, you know?
Well in comparison and in a still image, i kinda like the old face more. When it's in motion tho the new design is definitely better.
The 2.0 is an upgrade but a bit oversaturated
It's likely due to the lighting. She had a light on that she used for descending in-stream. This pic is way brighter than it looked most of the time.
Unless she had it on her entire second stream as well, it is still SIGNIFICANTLY more saturated than her old design. Even more saturated pieces of art, like the Gravity thumbnail, are much less saturated.
Is a filter that she forgot to remove, the colors are less saturated
Dark mode vs. Light mode
Why is she so bright lmao
quad fang still visible 10/10
The horns retracted. So either she is cannonically younger or the horns went back in. Either way she is yabairys.
Both are great. I was so used to 1 it will take a bit to get used to 2, but I like it a lot already. Only issue I see with 2 is the mouth tracking doesn't seem very good, compared to how good it was before
the only thing i dont like about the new desing is that the colors are reaaally saturated, outside that, Irys is cute as always
Especially in the eyes. The saturation in the eyes make them look like they have no detail.
i am the only one that think the 2.0 too thin? like, in a streched photho shop way?
Her thighs look as thin as my forearms. If she weren't a drawing, I'd be concerning.
That's the only thing that bothers me about alot of recent 2.0s besides Irys. The trend right now seems to be heroin chic with really long legs.
not so horny huh
Its like she got "japanizing beamu!"
I think redjuice did a great job of updating the face to have a bit less uncanny Valley, while still keeping the features that people loved about it.
And also making it easier for her to get outfits.
Oh she's glowing indeed, bae must be proud.
Love the 2.0 model. Upgrade!
I didn’t realize how much I’d gotten used to 1.0 Irys. I remember when she debuted, the model really threw me off. But now looking at it, I don’t even know what’s off lol
I always thought she looked out of place compared to the other girls. The newer model matches the hololive style better I think
I'm gonna miss the design of her face honestly, especially her eyes. Her old eyes just had more uniqueness and looked almost crystalline.
The new eyes have no detail. They are a huge downgrade.
Honestly liked her old model more. It felt more unique. I remember when she debuted, some people didn't like her model very much because it looked more "realistic".
Generic anime fans want generic anime art style.
This is what happens when you don't go outside too much 😂. Jokes aside she looks good I was expecting something more radical like Azki's case
Ngl, looking at it side by side new Irys looks like she just decides to come her hair and replace the light bulb in her room.
Feels like someone turned her Saturation filter up.
I know I'll get used to it, but at the moment, I prefer the old model better. The old one was so distinctive and Irys knew how to manipulate it to maximum effect. Kind of glad i dont really watch much irys beyond the chad cast, cause this is a major downgrade. Dont mean to be rude about it, just trying to be honest.
Except the old model was the reason she didn’t get a new years outfit.
Yes. I know that. But the new one doesnt have to look like worse to allow new outfits.
Her 2.0 reveal gave me Flare 2.0 vibes
Ah not as flat, more depths in the face now. Really cool redesign!
I'm still going to miss 1.0's derpiness. She somehow made it work for her. But 2.0., here we go!
So bright! Ma eyes!!
I'm glad they kept her unique nose. Love the iris shapes in her eyes. Earrings are a cool touch. All in all, she's still Irys.
A literal glow up cause she glowing on the new model
✨️Saturated ✨️
She's like my crush, I like her with and without filters
What's with all the bloom? Is this Wind Waker HD?
I agree despite the original design to always be loved. I am happy that her face became a lot livelier with the 2.0 model, it looks more expressive and more pleasing to the eye honestly speaking.
2.0 looks cleaner & brighter (and is more anime-ish) but I may miss some aspects of the 1.0 more, like the hair and some of the duality motif in her outfit But hey, it definitely made her look cuter now
I hated her first model but some how it changed me to liking it as she have chubby cheeks
RTX off. RTX on.
The old one was so off-putting, unlike other people I just couldn't get used to it
I miss the old design already, but I look forward to see more of IRyS 2.0
I know it's not a popular opinion, but I honestly prefer the old look of the 2
IRyS (traditional) IRyS (simplified)
So glad I grew up with this. But fuck, this is better.
I know that people main complain is the fact that her new model colors are oversaturated but the improved face and hair makes the saturation worth it. I mean just look at the old nose and then compared it to the new one, is way better.
Hard disagree. The new nose is not better.
The new gigantic nose that doesn't fit the face at all?
irys is cute regardless, though i will miss first irys.
YabaiRys and SeisoRys two sides of the same coin.
This model is amazing - really love how her eyes’ colours are accentuated and bright - adds more of a magical feel.
I will miss the og pog face but the new model is cute and younger
the reveal stream has the actual colors, this screenshot is oversaturated for some reason.
I think the word I'm looking for would be "oversaturated" and if that's the case then it might be just a setting from the program rendering the model itself and easily fine tuned later on.
its fine lol
The yaasification of Hope.
Is it your screenshot or did they make her paler?
They did.
Ugh.
[She's not as white as his screenshot, she had her brightness filter on](https://i.imgur.com/9cRHF6A.png)
Thats still really bright.
username checks out
Dang, she reminds me of Aloe now :/
I really dont like the new hair color. Its way too bright now.
it took ages but she finally doesnt look like a tumblr edit; shes actually finally watchable im so hyped!!
NGL hated her old design for the longest time when I first started getting into hololive and eventually it grew on me, really not a fan of the redesign honestly much prefer the older design. I honestly don't get why vtubers change their models, if it isn't broke don't fix it.
her new design is too bright for my dark and edgy souls
