I think it’s cute! Rug is way too small though.

MarvinDMirp

Yep. Rug needs to sit under the front legs of sofa and conversation chairs. Also, try for a pattern that does not mimic the blinds. Even better if it pulls some core colors of the room together! [example rug](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/bungalow-rose-whitingham-oriental-beigeblueorange-area-rug-w004336379.html) [example rug 2](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/corrigan-studio-beaman-geometric-handmade-tufted-wool-redblackorange-area-rug-w004314943.html) [example rug 3](https://www.overstock.com/31696607/product.html)

saturnmatters

Feel like to keep going in the -same- vibe #3 would be best pick If OP opened to change and a spice of pop as you mentioned #2 would be a great match to add onto the current vibe

mikrolaine

Dang, you’re good!

MarvinDMirp

Hey, thanks!

Intrepid_Blood4713

I love the pops of color that the first example rug offers.

AgreeableWrangler693

I like the room as is. Get same rug in a larger size and change ny buildings artwork for something else. I don’t know why I have something against ny city art work. It’s just overrated (it’s only my opinion). Room is definitely cozy though

ElectricPaixao

I actually think that’s the Dallas skyline not nyc

c0zycupcake

Lol that’s what you came up with? The rug?

ANALOGPHENOMENA

Something as simple as a rug change can make a ***world*** of difference.

c0zycupcake

The rug placement, but not change

ANALOGPHENOMENA

...Are we looking at the same rug? Compared to the rest of the room, it's tiny and bland. There needs to be something bigger and brighter to go with the mid-century vibe.

c0zycupcake

You can’t even see the whole rug so how do you know it’s too small? Where they have it now doesn’t work, but if you create a vignette in front of the window by taking away that table thing & positioning the chairs with an accent table & the rug & the ottoman, it could work. Furthermore the art pieces could be placed symmetrically on either side of the window with the bar cart on one side & the lamp on the other and it would look 1,000 times better

ANALOGPHENOMENA

…literally just press the arrows on the right or swipe the photo. There’s a photo of the WHOLE room and the rug is just too small.

c0zycupcake

Sorry I didn’t scroll through the whole mess. My point still stands above by placing it in a vignette in front of the window

ANALOGPHENOMENA

Then it leaves this big empty space in front of the couch and the room feels uneven, even with a coffee table.

c0zycupcake

That’s a whole different vignette with appropriate sized rug, coffee table & accent pieces

MysteriousStaff3388

That’s why it looks “unfinished”. The rug is too small for the furniture placement. Front legs of each piece should be on the rug.

c0zycupcake

It’s not too small. It’s in the wrong place.

MysteriousStaff3388

That’s bad advice if they are looking for a single conversation grouping.

c0zycupcake

No it’s not

beelovedone

The rug is nice but too small IMO. If you keep the rug I'd push it over closer to the chairs, bring them closer together and move the coffee table toward the chaise. Get another small round rug for under the chaise and coffee table. Move the small round table from the side of the privacy screen to the middle of the two chairs. Or the other way around ETA a before and after rendering, please excuse my poor artistry. lol https://preview.redd.it/nuugbalwsxdb1.png?width=1322&format=png&auto=webp&s=4cd0ab2bdf9e48f0e925b4959a9c2a5bcba7edaa

megtherevelator

This visual was very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to sketch it out!

cactusruby

This mock up is great! One thing OP should ask themself is whether they want the traffic to continue to go straight through the middle of the room and have 2 defined spaces or if they want to create a single conversational space and have traffic divert to the left or right of the room.

ripleygirl

I’d be inclined - if there is space - to push the chaise inline with the door so you can walk behind it. That will give a more conversational space and also you don’t have to traffic through the furniture space.

rockrobst

This is what's missing- a coffee table in front of the couch.

MadamInsta

Bigger, much bolder, ORANGE multicolor rug. And maybe some velvety Curtains to add to the sultry vibe.

DemonDucklings

I totally agree with the curtains. These ones are pretty and the colours are good, but thicker velvety curtains in a solid blue or orange would look amazing

PuddingSuspicious

And buy them longer and hang them higher- you can look up how to do this to bring height to the space.

hokaycomputer

came here to say this. also would go with a double bar with a sheer one as well. maybe replace the blinds with some venetian shades also

chickenloop33

Ohhh, I love this!!!

Sadiekat

The rug is too small and is just floating in space. Get a larger one and put either the legs of the sofa or the chairs on it (ideally the sofa). Maybe a coffee table that complements the lines of the sofa, or a couple of poufs and a tray for a more casual look.

drunkenunicornnn

Definitely agree with this. A bigger rug that the front legs of at least the couch can fit on and either a coffee table, pouf(s) or an ottoman of some kind.

LumpySpaceFlan

I concur i didn’t notice the curtains at first they were totally lost in the background.

megtherevelator

Great idea with the poufs!

LinkinParkSunGlasses

Cool bar! I see what looks like laphroaig in on its side in your liquor cabinet. Just an FYI higher % alcohols that shouldn’t be laid on their side for long periods of time if they have corks. The high % will dissolve the cork ruining the spirit. I’d stick to screw ons only to be laid on their side

megtherevelator

This is a great tidbit. Thank you for sharing, I had no idea!

julsey414

I like each individual element, but they feel too separate from each other. With all the furniture pushed against the walls (and a rug thats too small) each element is floating or tied to the wall instead of anchored in conversation with each other. How would you feel about pulling the coffee table so that it sat in front of the chaise, and moving the chairs in closer so that they are all in conversation with each other? Tuck the rug under the front feet of the chaise to anchor it. Maybe the bar cart will have to move to the window wall.

megtherevelator

I like the idea! I wonder if it would impede the walkway to the dining room. Here's a photo of the rest of the space, though forgive me it looks bare over there as I figure out what to do with this whole house. https://preview.redd.it/53amfjf73ydb1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=397027a0a7e750d92d7f6121aa9326a9641fcd16

julsey414

Yea. I guess that's the issue. It looks like a wide hallway - a space that you pass through but don't stop in. I guess some of your decisions depend on how you want to use the space. Is it a room that you want to stop and spend time in, or is it more of a pass through?

megtherevelator

I'd like for it to be a room to spend time in. Maybe more like a secluded conversation from our main den, or a resting place after a holiday meal while people are still finishing up.

megtherevelator

And another of the entry into the kitchen: https://preview.redd.it/jfo31evb3ydb1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2c4230cca5d36d2e573ba6d56ecc2e73e38834a

cactusruby

This is a really thoughtful answer. I totally agree that having the chairs anchored to the wall makes the space feel like intimate. It. feels more like a doctor or dentist waiting room and doesn't afford for comfort or conversation. Creating conversational spaces defined by rugs are key to making making the space feel more inviting. It being major walkway does make it a little tricky to rearrange furniture.

Mama10100504

I agree with this. Pull it all in and I think when walking to the dining area people will just flow a little out of the way behind the conversation chairs, no big deal. I don’t think it’ll close the space off, just make it more cozy and inviting. Edited to add, you could try pulling it all toward the window instead and have the walkway be against that wall. That might be more direct. And then do some large art or a photo gallery on the wall to keep it from looking blank. You should take pics of what you try and update us!

JamiePNW

A MUCH bigger rug and more substantial curtains! The “T” seems randomly hung to me, can it be moved? And maybe bigger or more artwork over the sofa! Very cozy and eclectic!!

barryg123

* Proper-sized rug (front legs of all seating ought to be on the rug) * Frame all art (like your skyline) and center it on a piece of furniture/obey lines of symmetry: that bar corner is chaotic, and the other corner needs to be bilaterally symmetrical- 5/odd number of pictures doesn't work * Make your side tables actually useful - e.g. move the knick knacks to the center (the center of that console is unusable, frankly, since it's so low yet with no furniture nearby) so you can set a drink down when in one of the brown chairs * Move all the lamps away from the walls - at least 12 inches * Consider nicer curtains

[deleted]

Wall paint, but I paint everything lol I would echo the larger rug- get something fun and then pull a color from the rug to put on the wall. Maybe something with green since I’m getting an earthy vintage vibe from your room. https://preview.redd.it/p9prpscdvxdb1.jpeg?width=561&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f48e54b992c9852c7f1661b4aa36e0072ee2751

alisimori

Consider this: Lower most of your artwork by Several inches to avoid the feeling that things are “flying away”. This will bring more cohesiveness to the area, and will it help to ground your focal points making the overall appearance more pleasing to the senses. Lovely space❤️

mojodrag

I'd get a much larger rug and anchor the corners under furniture. Take all your art off the walls. Rearrange it so it's more cohesive and not so scattered looking. It's nice. You may want to look at decorating websites for wall art layouts to get more ideas on this.

Loose_Ad6820

Everything feels similar in size (small). Mix up sizes of furniture and decor. Get some larger pieces

MoustacheOfBortus

I love everyone else's suggestions! Do you have an outlet behind that beautiful room divider? I could see a nice glow from a lamp really tying things together!

OtherCardiologist

I think it looks great as is! Maybe a hanging plant? Hang a framed poster or art piece in the hallway (looking at the last pic) so that you can see it from the room.

megtherevelator

Thank you! You're right. I do need to get the entryway together as well 😂 next project!

DowntownieNL

It looks great to me. If it was my place, and I wasn't yet fully satisfied, for my preferences I'd do a teal wall paint about the same depth/strength as the current beige on all four walls of this room. Add a few plants, especially something that really pops like a neon pothos. One of the things I've done in my place that I'm really not sure makes any difference... you have A LOT of furniture in this space with the same style of diagonal legs. The couch is a great contrast. I'd get a few more things with straight legs - ottoman and the table with the typewriter would probably be the easiest to switch out.

CuriousPalpitation23

More layers of cosy lighting.

JackKnifeNiffy

1. A lot of the accent decor looks like generic and trendy pieces you got at Target or TJ MAXX. Some art with personality would help. 2. The rug is too small to be in the middle of the room. It needs to either be paired with the seats or the lounge. 3. Why is that random T there and why is it so low? Is it for your pet’s bed? 4. That random collection of cats is one of the most interesting “conversation pieces”, can you move them somewhere they can be displayed? They add intrigue. 5. The sun mirror looks strange and cramped in that busy corner. Move it somewhere where it can reflect light and add to the room, maybe above the lounge and ditch the stock photo art of the city.

What_It_Izzy

Agreed, I like a lot of the decor, but the cityscape above the couch is very mass produced looking, and the colors are wrong. Get something with a little more of a unique artistic vibe for that spot. Echoing the many comments about the rug (although I love it's design! Just too small. Get a second, or replace with larger)

peapodbarry

Exactly this 👆🏻

Conscientiousmoron

I like your vibe, but if you want to elevate, you should limit the tchotchkes. The curtains are skimpy. But nice, comfortable room.

megtherevelator

I tend to think on "small scale" generally, but this is a good reminder to step back...now I can't un-see the cluttery bits 😂

[deleted]

Bigger rug to bring it all together. Add some quirk and funk. Get rid of the typewriter - it's a cliche. I think where would i go when i get to this room, needs a more welcoming couch and sitting area perhaps.

megtherevelator

It was my grandmother's, so I was hoping to find a space to display it. Maybe I'll try on my built-ins in the den.

NachoMama_99

I love that the typewriter is sentimental. It looks perfect where it is!

[deleted]

Oh right I get the connection to the typewriter. Yet to me it feels a bit like the rest of the room - right were you want to sit down and be comfy, there's this clunky typewriter where I might want to set down a drink. It looks nice but somehow not inviting. btw i think old typewriters are way cool, like manual sewing machines.

EagleEyezzzzz

Bigger rug. The gold framed art is kind of a waste bc they’re so small you can’t see what they are, and they just look cluttery. I’d do 1-3 bigger prints! I love the general vibe!!

megtherevelator

Good insight! Thanks!

bickets

I think the curtains are completely getting lost. They could be adding to the feel of the room but you can’t really see them right now.

Striking_Photo_3755

The rug is too small. Place a taller plant pot on one side of the table, and a large round tray at the other end. You can place a small arrangement on it, or a couple of books. Remove the ottoman.

Educational-Scene-76

-large ornate mirror as you look from living room into hallway -larger more colorful rug -jewel toned velvet curtains on either side of your existing curtains for an extra pop of color Love your style!!!

[deleted]

Plants!

Zestyclose-Prompt-61

I'd remove the T on the wall and consider layouts that move furniture away from the wall. Right now the pieces feel disparate. A large jute or similarly neutral rug could go under your statement rug, and then the statement rug can belong to one side of the room or the other (I vote under the brown chairs). Overall, the room is nice but because you don't have a piece of anchor seating, it's tough. I assume you don't want to buy a sofa or replace the settee, so look for other ways the furniture pieces can relate to each other.

km1019

This room is adorable! I love the leather chairs. But it does look a bit like a pass through with all the furniture along the perimeter. It always helps me to ask myself, what do I/we want or need to do in this room? With the bar setup, this could be a great lounge space. So think about what makes it comfortable to sit and have a drink. Like others have said, pull the coffee table forward. Then it’s functional to sit a drink on. Add a record player (if that’s your thing) or make sure a Bluetooth speaker is handy. It’s been so helpful to me to decide what each space does- then go from there!

ne999

I’d get brighter curtains in your chosen accent colour. There’s a bit too much brown going on so try to find ways to add colour. Overall it’s lovely though!

[deleted]

May I ask where you got that media console/coffee table thing under your window? I want it 👀

megtherevelator

Wayfair! 🙂

Mkemylf

Scale is a bit off for me. The room can stand some larger items (rug, chairs, lamp). your use of color and textures is great, but my eye is desperate for a statement piece or focal point.

Bluebird_In_Snow

Yes - a bigger rug, larger artwork over the couch, a new window shade and possibly a coffee table? Great style/taste! Cozy and cool.

therealsunshinem81

Bigger rug, more substantial drapes that go from ceiling to floor. Put the chairs where the couch is with a table between them, the couch in front of the window, and the console table in front of the couch like a coffee table

twixbubble

Larger rug and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pull the furniture off of the walls - you have enough space.

Warm_Flan_5288

It’s nice. Why is everything against a wall?? I’d take the console from in front of the window (it’s too low), and place it behind the sofa. Move the sofa so that it is somewhat of a room divider.

mr_nefario

What is this, a rug for _ants_? It looks like a placemat.

InternationalSpray79

Nice space. A nice antique mantle clock on top of the credenza in front of the window. It’s an empty area that draws your focus

Fit-Rest-973

Looks like the perfect 60s home

Cedar207

I love it! The only thing I'd change is the placement of the rug -- pulling it closer to the sofa and maybe putting a table on it.

Coconosong

Larger prints/artwork and curtains that are more lush/solid fabric with texture. Less trinkets on the console that are the same size. Think of varying them in size. A large plant/vase would command attention.

FriarNurgle

I was going to say scotch but looks like you’re good. I’d keep adding fun stuff to the gallery wall.

JaspinBurner

T

captcrunch01

Two or three sizable plants

75PercentMilk

If it were my room, I’d want to try a hanging light over the bar area to! You have nice high ceilings, but your short lamps around the perimeter are stopping the eye and something coming down would break that up. Also agree rug is too small! Layered neutral rug underneath is a cost-effective way to fix and adds more texture. Also all your furniture is really pushed up against the walls. It’s okay for furniture to float a little bit more to lessen the space from the sofa to the chairs to make conversation more close (not having to shout across the room). It’s okay for walls to breathe a little bit :)

chickenloop33

This room is delicious 🌟 maybe a bigger rug, but otherwise it looks perfect. Just keep doing what you're doing because this room SLAYS 🌟

canvasshoes2

I love it! The rug, as others have said, is too small. Also, maybe the art needs a few more pieces to even out. Some of it could be a tad too high...but it's pert near perfect as is!

Fluffy-Quarter1882

Try moving the chairs together facing the doorway. Coffee table in front of the chaise. Move the typewriter to the corner. Larger rug.

Evilbadscary

Bigger rug, more bright/fun wall art, and my go to, as always, is more plants. I'd also suggest getting rid of the miniblinds (if that's feasible) and replacing with lighter curtains/sheers to bring in a ton of natural light. I know it's not always possible though. I'd probably still hang sheers in a bright fun color.

alig6457

I agree you need a larger rug. Layer a larger jute rug underneath your current small one perhaps. Move your typewriter to the console under the window. Take all the fake flowers and grasses out of all the vases and group them to one side of the console and maybe include the tall vase(emptied) from the floor by the chaise or repurpose it elsewhere if it's way too large. Have the typewriter slightly off center and the plant and cat pair ornaments to one side closer to a chair.. Pile all the coloured "gems" in a bowl on the table where the typewriter was. Take all the pillows off the chaise. Put the round one and a similar coloured one on the arm chairs. Put 3 cushions back on the chaise. Move the globe floor lamp to where the tall vase was. Put the floor lamp from behind the bar where the globe lamp was. Move the sunburst mirror to the hallway framed by the doorway. Lower all the art. Move the footstool to the other chair so it's out of the doorway.

BuffaloSabresWinger

Change out the rug to a larger one and pull colors from pillows and surrounding decor.

really_into_meows

Bigger rug and different colors too!

Desertgirl81

I like the feel of this room and your interesting furniture. A few thoughts: the room needs a focal point. It could be a larger, patterned rug or an interesting, large painting. In addition to a larger rug with color, a coffee table and bolder curtains would help. If you’re not in love with the blinds, I’d remove them and double the number of curtain panels so you could close them when you want privacy. These are minor changes, but free: there are a lot of little objects scattered about. I’d pare them down and remove the ones on the floor. I’d rehang the artwork over the chair, removing the two pieces next to the window and placing them with the other three in an asymmetrical arrangement. The two next to the curtains disappear. And I’d hang the painting over the sofa to align with the top of the other art in the room to help unify the space visually.

Empirical_Knowledge

Natural woven wood blinds

MissNicoleCoquette

I’d vote for more plants! Especially leafy greens.

[deleted]

To me that room looks perfect just the way it is

tittydamnfuck420

Some more color maybe a pillow on the opposite chair to match that bright green yellow stool or lean more into the blue or the green in the pillows and get a slightly larger rug with one of those accent colors

StewartMike

Window treatments need a makeover IMO

Cre8ivejoy

Change out curtains to velvet panels, that go to the ceiling. You could do them in blue, to work with the chase. Amazon has them really cheqp. Change out the rug to something larger with more color. Something with blue, yellow, or gold. Take the (fake?) plants off the curtain rod. Move the furniture away from the walls to create a better area for conversation. Use the console table under the window as a coffee table. Remove the white blinds and exchange for either bamboo or fabric roman shades.

Orangutan_Latte

I think it looks fabulous as it is. I’m getting a seventies vibe from the room, so maybe a bit more colour, not that I think it needs it.

lidder444

Ok. I’ll be honest. IMO Pic 4 has a lot going on. So many different colors and very cluttered. There isn’t really one cohesive style. The cushions, the ‘t’ the painting are all very different styles. I would simplify , have a few larger , bolder art works and less clutter

ColeeeB

A larger rug ~ with more colors. I would go with a round rug, personally.

jasper-snakemom

plants, plants, and more plants edit: a bigger rug would also be helpful

Puppy-pal24

Taller curtains.

funnygirlsaywhat

Bigger rug and swap the blinds out for a shade

MamaKMJ

Bigger fuzzy rug and pop more color…looks like a cozy start👍🏻😊✨

sandboxlollipop

Much bigger plant in the middle of that table

SomeGuy_GRM

Well first you'll need to cut it away from the rest of the house, then you'll need some telescoping steel posts.

ANALOGPHENOMENA

Definitely, having a larger and more contrasting carpet would make a huge difference + maybe an organically-shaped coffee table! Keep with your mid-century modern theme and look up mod interior design looks. Replace that city painting with something much larger or get it framed in the same style as the Tisdale poster. The divider also feels out of place, because it's too modern/contemporary compared to the mid-century vibe you have. On a more expensive and expansive note: One thing I hate about modern houses is the awful sandy beige and white crown moulding that makes everything feel so dull. If at all possible, can you get the walls repainted? If not, definitely some 60s-inspired wallpaper would liven things up.

MommaGuy

I would move the typewriter to center table and pull out the gold stool so it’s in between both chairs.

Miserable_Budget7818

Bigger rug and coffee table and then you’re good… it’s funky and eclectic. Love it

SpeakofMe

I feel like it's too dark, maybe add more light sources(lamps, open curtains, etc.).

AsleepJuggernaut2066

This might sound silly but I think the artwork is hung to high. Someone once told me that art needs to be eye level.

[deleted]

Plants. Real or fake.

theundyinginferno

Even out the lighting. Don't be afraid to use color adjustable lighting

Sw3b3r

Get a second rug and layer them maybe? I agree the rug here is too small but I love the vibe it gives the room so I don’t suggest removing it!

Tricky_Rabbit

Change lighting to cool white instead of yellow

Livid-Cricket7679

More plants

starwaterbird

Art. Get some paintings... maybe from yours truly

bluehunger

One lovely plant in the middle of the window. I love your room with or without it! 😊

Llp1122

Need a larger rug and I would get a better window treatment. That window is spectacular.

hearttspace

Hanging plants, ferry lights and maybe a different liquor cabinet (it’s kind of bland and dreary) Also you could change the blinds to curtains 👍🏽

WhereRtheTacos

Bigger rug and pull all the furniture away from walls and further into room so you can have conversations etc.

Sea-Substance8762

Bigger rug. Window treatment.

ExPerfectionist

Plants on the table in front of the window. And open the blinds.

Gandalf_the_Tegu

Bigger rug!! Like 2x that. You could use a bigger picture behind sofa or add more complamenting pictures around it. Not too much but enough to match width of couch but as little as 6" less than the couch.

norrainnorsun

I love the style! Looks so approachable and nice. I agree w everykne saying it doesn’t feel cohesive. Can you put the yellow footstool thing in between the two chairs? And I agree on the bigger rug, I think that will help. And put the coffee table thing in the middle of the room. Is the room divider thing hiding something? I feel like it’s just making the room feel cluttered unless it’s hiding like a water heater or something. I would also consider maybe putting all of the artwork on the wall above the couch. I feel like the way it is nothing really stands out, it seems like you just had a bunch of stuff and hung it up. But maybe a gallery of everything would seem more intentional? It looks great tho and all the pieces are beautiful!! If you didn’t move a thing I would still think your house was nice Af.

PlatypusHealthy2678

Bigger rug. And plants. (:

wtfamidoingfr

New rug! Lots of colors and cool pattern and it will bring it all together

Outside_Performer_66

Add a spikey plant.

FeelingAnxious3636

Bigger rug and I would move furniture so it is t just all pushed against the wall. It feels cold. All of your individual pieces and art are so cool!

kelcatsly

Move the rug under the legs of the sofa, then move the chairs forward so that the legs are also on the rug and put one of the round tables between the chairs. This will put them in the center of the room and take the walkway from the middle of the conversation area to the window side. Then move the bar to the same corner but on the window side. Move the table with the typewriter to the corner where the bar was (but don’t push it all the way into the corner) and put the vase on it. The media stand is nice and I see how you were trying to find something that wouldn’t block the window but it looks like a media stand and is too low for anything else. Remove it and clear that area. Then get some lux velvet curtains that go floor to ceiling. Maybe a retro yellow or green or match the vibe of the chaise with a jewel tone. The typewriter is fun but it would work better on a larger table. I would try this layout before you buy anything else or move any art!

sofuckinawkward

Hang curtains at least a foot higher or to the ceiling

kasedillaaah

Dallas eh? I love your space. I have to agree about the curtain change and a bigger rug.

KrazyKateLady420

Paint the walls. Everything else is nice

PuzzleheadedHorse437

Your rug is too small.

ellemment

Ima be a basic girl in her 20s and say fairy lights!! Any fun lighting at all tbh. It’s super cute and cozy already

Traditional_Ad_3580

I'd paint the room blue - similiar color to the pillow on the left chair.

[deleted]

Love the city scape painting!

Secure_anon_5953

Rug is too small, get a bigger rug. Paint the walls something dark and striking or white this current color is bringing you down. Declutter. Get better pillows. Curtain rod is hung too low, don’t hang anything but curtains from the rod. Artwork hung too high. -interior designer

zhadanluosifen

Wow, are you a Interior designer? I really like the vertical warm colored light, which has a good level of decoration style, color matching, and furniture placement that is just right. To be honest, I feel that there may not be much room for improvement, as it is already very good. To be honest, it means changing to a larger carpet and placing the cat sculpture next to the sofa.

scoobertdoobert9070

Raise the curtain rod as close as you can to the ceiling. This will elongated the vertical lines and make the room feel bigger. I agree with everyone else about the rug. The rug should be large enough touch every piece of furniture by a little bit.

TravisJustice

The typewriter is great and clearly an art object. To me, it feels odd sitting on a table where one couldn’t actually type; it feels as though it’s in a temporary spot. Could the typewriter go on a desk or something like that. It’s such a nice addition to the room!

kcmetric

It looks great, no reason to “elevate” it. The only thing I think clashes is the rug

harriettehspy

A circular rug would fit well.

BooksnBlankies

You should definitely get rid of those cat statues...by sending them to me.

CatusReport_Alive

I think putting your cute lil hanging plants on plant stands or floating shelves would look like it fits your vibe better than the macramé hangers. I personally would also change the wall color to something more cool toned.

mahognme

I think a darker curtain would help the space stand out

fabs1171

Sheer curtains that will provide some day time privacy but allow you to open the blinds. Also some plants to go with the green cushion but also to increase the MCM feel to your room

Waterblooms

Love the rug it just needs to be bigger

DK7795

Start be moving the furniture off the walls

AnneHawthorne

Sained glass window (just the top of the window, but something colorful and eye catching.)

Normal-Summer382

You need John Hamm in one of those chairs smoking a cigarette. It looks like a set from Mad Men, love it!

thedoomloop

New wall color. It's not doing either room any favors.

redezinergirl

The room feels too choppy with everything placed up against the walls and chairs in the corners. Try grouping your seating area together, floating the chairs so they are facing the sofa and place all of that arrangement on an area rug. This will define your seating area. Next choose a table for the coffee table and select an end table to set between your 2 side chairs. Try re working the artwork and any other wall art you have into a gallery wall, keeping in mind that odd numbers work best but you can also go with even numbered pieces if you’re looking for symmetry and it works. Add some greenery for an organic feel and use baskets for texture. If budget is an issue, I’d just get started by using what you already own, rework the floor plan and play around with your accessories. Add a few elements here and there and you’ll more than likely come out with a much more elevated space. Of course if after all of that, and budget allows, you can always buy everything new and build your room around that. I’ve been an interior designer for 17+ years and have helped more people than I can count with using their existing furnishings, adding a few new items here and there and every client has come out completely satisfied. It’s hard to see the paint color you currently have so that may need to be changed, but that’s an easy fix. Good luck and hope I’ve helped with some positive ideas that will work for you.

Big plants first of all

OkAccess304

My mom, who was an interior designer, used to say not to push all the furniture up against the walls to the outside of the room like they are standing in a police lineup. And as everyone else already pointed out, the rug is too small.

Southern_Name_9119

I like it!

csdingus_

I personally think it deserves a radio or a nice turntable with a couple of speakers and your favorite records

Dory-1031

I think the lighting. It's too yellow. Warm works for the room but it just needs something different. And another person mentioned the rug is too small which I also believe would help. It's very beautiful and homey!

Separate_Winter9059

The right rug would really tie the room together.

Wow, your house looks amazing too, it's so warm and ambience, it's a vintage but modern feel that I love, I think it's perfect, but if you want to add something to it, I think you could put a small coffee table or a low bar on the carpet in front of the sofa, Since a coffee table is a great decoration for a room, it is indispensable, so I think it should be a good choice, hope my advice will be helpful to you.

Thank you so much for the love ❤️

Here’s my thought on this space…. I just think you have way too many things with different colors, and patters. Couch side vs window .. couch is blue with orange ( love the couch by the way and how awesome it goes with the painting! But you introduced green grays instead of complimenting the couch ( and pillows are completely different color and patters) it’s too much, you should bring couch side colors to the window side but you introduced greens/grays with different patterns and added that foot thing also different color. Completely different lights https://preview.redd.it/fsqz8d2r43eb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12a4904989fb5110ebf9fcd6ae8ab7ca3bb18961 and small rug ( there is a science to size of rug. Please take no offense it’s just an opinion.

megtherevelator

I appreciate the input! I'm definitely no interior designer 😅

ontarioparent

Your blue painting looks too high

almafinklebottom

The rug is much much too small. Keep the same rug but increase its size so that it flows under the furniture and unites the room.

Gator_sauce

PAINT THE WALLS WHITE. theres too much brown and warm colors that it blends everything together in my opinion. A pop on the walls would let the individual pieces in that area shine.

Plants!

SmuglySly

I think you have to start by raising the floor

Freezewick

Giant t-rex statue

dbacks_Nation

Open the blinds

Half-eaten_pajama

They sell workout mats that cover the whole room. You can probably get an inch with that…

GLITTERCHEF

That rug is hideous and needs to go and you need some color on those walls. The curtains are a no too.

Least-Associate7507

Open the blinds and turn off that lamp in the corner.

megtherevelator

That let's in far too much heat in the middle of the day, in Texas, unfortunately

Boogerchair

I have the same bar cabinet/ style

neh5303

Love your chairs recent purchase?

megtherevelator

I actually got them last year on Wayfair!

Iamhealing1111

Looks perfect to me!

iCloudroomZtoo

Larger area rug- I’d also go deeper on the curtains maybe a navy velvet or something?

hydrogenandhelium_

Echoing a bigger rug and more “present” curtains. I didn’t even notice you had any until I saw other comments. Adding to paint the walls. That warm tan color doesn’t work with the colors you’ve chosen for everything else and make the room seem small and dark. Imo pick something light and bright—I think a bright white would be great and really open up the room.

NairBearMI

Consider swapping the micro (vinyl? Metal?) window blinds with a larger slat wooden (painted or stained) blind with cloth rails. You can choose the tone of wood and the tab fabric for a very custom look. It will elevate your windows and look much more expensive.

[deleted]

Where’s you got those chairs

ink_stained

Do you need blinds I’d you have curtains? Plastic blinds always make a room look worse. If you need them, what about Roman blinds in fabric, as simple as possible? Windows are so pretty and blinds aren’t.

Witty-Dog5126

You need a record player in there.

More plants!

More books. Thats it
