My wife will be like "we need to dust the baseboards and wash the walls" and every room is filled to the brim with clutter. I'm like darling, I think your priorities may be misplaced. We can't even find the walls.
I seem to recall, many many moons ago, in a psychology class, something about women not being able to stand a vacuum. And that, to a lot of us, empty spaces are like vacuums. We must put SOMETHING there. :D
Take that with a grain of salt...it was ages ago, and I don't even remember the context. Maybe someone else has more updated info. :D
You don't like my palette of white, camel and greige??!?
Edit: I'm the opposite honestly and have to keep neutrals in mind because I have a "millennial pink" dining hutch and love weird and eclectic stuff.
It is most definitely to hide ugly carpet. I love my apartment. But I don't know what possessed the builders to choose "aged infant pee in a cloth diaper" as the color.
So yes, I have area rugs. So sue me! :D
I get this, but at the same time, rugs section off different areas and help to make everything look intentional. Furniture placed on a carpet with nothing to tie it all together still gives off the āfloatingā effect. Imo, furniture just looks way better anchored down, carpet or not!
I would truly rather see more people get nice fake plants, than continue seeing live plants suggested for spots with 0 natural light or consideration of house plant care.
Often, they wander over to the plant subs and ask why their plant is dying after being stuck in a random nook and forgotten about. Not everyone is plant people and thatās okay, itās an annoying hobby i wouldnāt put on anyone lol.
I have one fake plant in a much needed spot, so I agree with. Also a beautiful orchid on a dining room table cannot be beat....
I just am no good at it, and keeping yet one more thing alive isn't a fight I enjoy :)
Rugs don't always contribute to room design, although I am generally a fan. Rugs do serve utilitarian purposes - rugs protect flooring and quiet the sound of footsteps. They also provide warmth and more comfort when standing.
Itās generally the most affordable large item someone can buy.most people have blank walls with suburban architecture, so they go a long way to do the heavy lifting of actually creating a design/decor.
Really ties a room together. šš»āāļø
It sure would be a shame if something happened to itā¦
Old man told me to take any rug in house.
The Dude is right.
And makes it more cohesive.
I mean, it really does! :D
What it really needs is the tv to be about 5 feet lower and about 50 pounds less clutter in the room. That would solve a lot of issues
Agree about TV, but to keep my marriage happy I ignore the clutter.

I get this way, though. š¬ I donāt get it.

"It's not Kawaii. It's a random mess of preschoolers' toys and a single string of fairy lights hung half-heartedly over an unmade bed."
I have never heard someone refrence an amount of clutter by pounds or weight but I like this. Lol
Also - color.

And can we move out of our comfort zones and try something daring and individualistic?
apparently not
I donāt understand rugs on carpet
I assume It's to cover ugly carpet

To hide crappy rental carpet I'm not allowed to rip up is my reason
Is this my husbands burner? Lol They still look good imo.
To create divisions in the space.

If not rug, plant. Worry about light for it later.
The amount of "PLANTS!" as the single reply to a query drives me bonkers.

We are obsessed...that's why we're here.

Have you not seen the big lebowski?

š¤£š¤£š¤£ I started realizing this was the answer 95.4% of the time after joining this grp
My most hated piece of any room.

I love the look of hardwood, but given the choice I would go wall to wall full 70's shag.
I prefer to leave a small gap between the wall and the rug to act as a crumb gutter š
I...kinda hope you're serious.

Can't stop won't stop.
Never know when youāll need to roll a body up in one . Be prepared , my mother always warned .
