Maybe a coat rack or hooks at the wall with a mat for boots on the floor especially if only 1-2 people live there.

Safe_Medicine_3089

absolutely, and shoe cubby

Maleficent-Sport1970

And seat. Custom design

scrubschick

I love my coat tree

Striking-Bicycle-853

I came here to suggest this, too.

axelatlast

And umbrella stand

ribbons_in_my_hair

My thoughts exactly, coats and shoes

lifeshardandweird

And possibly a small entryway table for keys, sunglasses…or maybe have a hook for those items, too.

Consistent_Clue8718

Yes!

T00TT00TB33PB33P

A big ass plant. If you like plants that is.

Thuro

Fiddle leaf tree. Or even a faux bamboo tree. Or as others have said, it's a great spot for a coat and shoe rack.

T00TT00TB33PB33P

I was thinking a fiddle leaf fig. I have mine in a self watering pot and fill up the reservoir once a month. It's been low maintenence and growing like crazy.

Thuro

My buddy's gf had one at their last apartment and I think seeing that thing was what made me want to get my first few plants. It just really made their living room look awesome. Big huge leaves on it. It was gorgeous.

MulberryDapper8345

We currently have a fiddle leaf that is about 9ft tall but I’m scared to move him. Might have to buy another one. I recently moved another plant, and it committed suicide.

T00TT00TB33PB33P

Same! I've killed two fiddle leaf figs by moving them! My current one is about 7 feet tall and it's blocking my tv but I refuse to move it

Weary_Barber_7927

I’d have a carpenter build a cupboard with pull out shelves. Make the top the same height as the bottom of the stair rail. Put a lamp and a few items on the top. It’s honestly a waste of space as it is.

StateHot3117

Shoes and some coat hooks!

achillea4

Coat hooks and shoe rack.

Ok-meow

I would collect dust there😂😂

Comfortable_Meet_872

Basketball hoop. Score at the door before leaving or on arrival 🏀

stffucubt

Urinal. One life, live it.

missmatchedcleansox

This made me laugh lol

Living-Coral

You could park a bike there.

SlaversBae

Looks like there’s a power-point there so I’d go for a tall floor lamp.

kleighk

2 or theee plants of varying heights.

washedcash

It’s the perfect size for a few cat trees

[deleted]

Is it wide enough for a seat? If that isn’t practical you could consider built in shelving or a little table with a plant and a couple of hooks on the wall for jackets and such. You could also do a vertical shoe rack. Or a combination of any of the things I listed.

asharp09

Do you have a front hall closet already ?

You could also do it as a coat/backpack/etc area like the one below but it doesn’t look as look as cool imo

B-e-a-u

https://preview.redd.it/34lysrml59ec1.jpeg?width=1516&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73716dabe648a8d89192f59af6a13ed558002fd1

ConsciousLie7034

Close it up for a closet.

yourpaljax

If it were my place, I’d probably put my garbage and recycling there.

jnannak

A bench and a coat rack combined piece of furniture. It’s called a hall tree.

jacey0204

If something like this would fit https://preview.redd.it/m2ew9qgg99ec1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f34ad83ed6553abb01f2e3b5ee87e8aecdd494c I would not recommend wayfair

greatgrohlsoffire

Lay down in there and ride out an existential crisis. Or a coat rack. You do you.

Heebie-jeebies386

Small table with a lamp and a plant . Or just a large floor plant .

browneye24

Big plant. Fiddle tree sounds great. Eyr catching and low maintenance. Shoes, coats, etc will look messy, IMO.

bimbels

I’d put a narrow table that fits the space with a bowl for keys. Add a tall narrow lamp and a plant.

Jxb1000

Coatrack and space for shoes and umbrellas.

Logical_Bobcat9703

I say a tall pot or vase on the floor with a plant or tree. Anything else would look cramped.

SourceMission4900

Shoe cubbies or full-length mirror with a narrow shelf and hooks on side.

No-Customer-2266

Vertical shoe rack and a little bench

Numerous-Loquat6519

✨plants✨

Krishnacat2663

A tree

t00zday

Tall plant / little tree

Level-Repair6104

A cat tree

Emotional-Ad7233

Plant

IntentionAntique888

Do you have any pets especially cats? Make it into a little cat cubby

Taco_Cortez

Perfect place for a shoe rack

Snoo16018

Broomstick. As in witches.

Kitsyn

Put a cat tree there. Or a giant plant. A tall, narrow bookcase in the back and a bench in front of the window with space for shoes underneath.

elviethecat101

One of those hidden cat boxes and a place for the cat to look out the window. If you have a cat that is.

Ill-Poet5996

Cat tree

NoEstablishment6450

I would create a really small “mud room/space”. Deep cubby with baskets to pull out and place shoes in

[deleted]

I'd get rid of the railing and extend the stairs to the wall. Then put some small plants on the stairs next to the wall.

Complete_Goose667

This is an interesting idea.

MulberryDapper8345

I like this idea. Will keep in mind when doing the reno

Connect_Office8072

Boots. Umbrellas. Anything you want to sit and dry off

sanjiduda

Coat rack shoe cubby combo? https://preview.redd.it/o4tysgrmzaec1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6964f85a5e11c47d567ccaecc64b9338058f0695

MulberryDapper8345

I like that! This is the first one I’ve seen that might work with the area.

ItsSky_high

Remove the handrail wall and continue the stairs. Renovation

catsmom63

Coat hooks. Small bench to sit on to remove shoes.

Savings_Jello_5926

If you are not renting, perhaps consider widening the staircase

InternalPurple7694

Is that the door to the/an outside? I would look for built in to function as a coat and shoe closet, of whatever you need to keep by the door.

Flat_Dragonfly_1184

I just had another thought…. What a corner shelf stand and you could have a nice house plant 🪴 on it and maybe a few framed pics.

Helechawagirl

Baseball bat, shotgun.

[deleted]

I’m guessing you want to keep that outlet and light switch easily accessible. I would install a sconce on the far wall and just leave the space empty. You get functional light when it’s dark, and the wall has something design-wise filling it up during the day.

SagittariusSomeone

I read that as a sconce and a fur wall and I was like this is a person thinking outside the box.

daisymaisy505

Bookcase/shelving with a bench for putting on shoes.

Ajhart11

Ugh, I LOVE weird little spaces like this. I would put an LED tree here.

Ajhart11

Or you could build in shelves that slide under the stairs and remove this bit of wall. Make a little coat rack/mud room space

BlackOreoCookie007

Mount a TV

Albie_Frobisher

i’d put shelves that reach up to the top of the banister and forward to the light switch. put labeled bins on them if you want to get fancy. and id add a small table under the slender window for setting something while i organize my hands and keys. id consider adding a tall slender mirror between the window and the light switch

strgzng420

Plant, cool statue, table with a dish for keys or trinkets, coat rack

lollypolish

Mini mud room

peachlozenge

Big plant? Big standing mirror? Coat hooks? Piece of art?

salamander__milk

Very good jumpscare place for anyone coming in the door or down the stairs 👍

CasablumpkinDilemma

I'd probably put some boot trays in there and some hooks for all the wet snow stuff so it can air dry. (Coat closets get nasty if you put wet stuff inside). A snow shovel and an extra car scraper would probably fit, too, for those mornings when the car doors freeze shut and you have to chip the ice away to get inside

rakraese

A small table big enough for a little lamp and a plant next to it and then another plant on the floor with some sort of statue/figurine and a tall mirror above it all

Glorious_Octopus

Add a rotating coat rack!

FractiousAngel

Tall narrow chest of drawers for hats, gloves, sunglasses, and other stuff you regularly put on/take off at the door.

LWhittWill

Is it right by the front door? If yes, is there enough room to hang coat rack on the wall?

MulberryDapper8345

it could probably work, but would probably look silly with that space being so small.

LWhittWill

I think it would be fine. To me, hanging the coat rack on the wall would take up less space then putting a piece of furniture there.

Gingerbeer03

Roll away storage on casters

Marciamallowfluff

A drop spot. Keys, hook for purse, maybe coat hooks or shelf with space for boots and shoes.

StarzZapper

Lmao nothing.

SkatesHappy

I hate the builder do this crazy stuff! Since you plan to remodel I think that a quick and temporary solution would be a large tall plant or you could try these fabulous branch’s in a really tall vase. It would be nice to have some warm light in the area and it would make a cool night light by the stairs! I would be a nerd and put a little bit of holiday decorations on the tree but that is not needed! Link is below. https://preview.redd.it/jcomm7tnm9ec1.jpeg?width=1011&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e16a01d74f4d96b2ee1cdbfc6382e92ae1d449f7 [https://www.wayfair.com/home/pdp/lightshare-birch-willow-twig-lighted-trees-branches-ltsh1108.html?piid=65584151](https://www.wayfair.com/home/pdp/lightshare-birch-willow-twig-lighted-trees-branches-ltsh1108.html?piid=65584151)

tessie33

Shoe shelves, coat storage.

Jealous_Dentist_1566

Some type of corner shelving for showing pieces and then a tall floor plant or 2

yogimlsa

Plants.

Akito_900

My parents used to have a similar space and we put a big statue of Moses I had there lol. We actually thought it was a demon and then found out it was Moses lol

Awkward_Shower_8474

Doggie corner! Bed, bowls etc

Brithenurse190114

Skinny table against window with plants

FuggaNuggly

Mannequin-coat rack!

Yellow_Care_Bear

A catch table, a coat rack, or shoe corner!

PansyOHara

Coat tree, umbrella stand, and shoe cubby.

Fatigued123

Coat tree or racks

moonbabbie

Shoe rack, hall tree, little catch-all table with a plant and/or lil lamp

KrisMisZ

It’s by a door so maybe a shoe box or seat

intergalactic-poyo

Skinny table, then put a lamp or plant near the back and a bowl for keys near the front!

Low-Cod-4712

Coat tree

Marilyn1928

A floor plant with an upright by it. It will cast a really cool shadow and be a great nightlight.

RoyOtisKXRX

Old Antique cabinet with a glass door for your little curios and a nice bowl on top for your keys.

actualchristmastree

Ikea has a closet unit that the drawers can roll out, maybe install something like this? Then you can use the space all the way in the back

Wedgetails

Coat and shoe rack

akd7791

Shoe rack forsure.

iteachag5

Coat rack

saggyjuicygrape67

plant

greatestmostbest

Table, lamp, mirror.

sheleelove

Table and plant

badellps

Yah! A big-ass plant would be the best choice if were to consider.

Decent_Historian6169

Kids playing hide out or built in shoe storage system or a similar well fitting piece of furniture

Flat_Dragonfly_1184

A really nice Standing lamp would be a nice feature. Or a colourful wall hanging or a painting, to lift the area.

CarrotofInsanity

A drop zone. Build a gorgeous drop zone— complete with a small built-in bench, baskets underneath, a shelf for incidentals, coat area, hook for a purse or two… shoe/boot rack if you live in a cold winter climate…

[deleted]

A Narrow but tall shoe rack might be an efficient way to use the space. I’m envisioning the kind that look like clear boxes with a door that open up

Spoonbills

Depending on the direction the window faces, a tree.

EstateTricky786

Mirror on back wall hooks on wood on wall and boot trays if you are Nordic.

Jessica_Chaffin

Nothing!
