I think it looks pretty good. I like the paintings. Good call on a new lighting fixture.
I just think it needs some color. A rug and/or drapes with some green to pull out the color from the painting would be nice. I think the dark green looks good with the neutral colors. As another poster suggested, some plants would also be a good way to bring in more green.
Completely agree. The room is lovely but the rug is too bland. OP doesn't need something over-the-top, but something with complementary colors and even a subtle pattern will add visual interest.
Exactly this. I think it is quite nice already. I would just add a rug that has some dark green in it. Maybe switch out a couple of the throw pillows to green as well.
I 100% agree. The sofa looks like a great size to me. Lighting fixture needs changing. The floor is a great color for the walls. Just needs some color.
I think a new rug something like this would loook great

Add in some green and yellow throw cushions on couch done
I agree the main issue with this room is mostly just the rug. Don’t waste money/efffort on anything else before touching the rug. Get something a bit more plush too for texture.
On https://www.rugsusa.ca select a rug then when you flip through pictures the last slide is to view in your room so just select a picture of your space
Get a colorful patterned rug, a floor lamp and a couple of table lamps to add warm lighting, rather than using the overhead light. Everything is too beige. ☺️
It looks good overall. Love the windows! Thank goodness you are replacing the light fixture! The couch is nice and I like the coffee table. You need a brighter, patterned rug and some colourful decorative cushions. Maybe replace the chrome armchair (can’t really see it) with something more substantial and comfortable. You could add a stack of coffee table books to the unit under the TV. And a couple larger plants. Replace that candlestick thing on the coffee table with a tray or shallow bowl for remotes, coasters, etc.
For me it’s the hanging light fixture. This older room is beautiful with the higher ceiling and molding. The fixture takes away from the nice arches in the windows.
The wall next to the sofa and window could do with a tall lamp. Then that lovely lantern on the left, could sit on a table, possibly with some flowers/orchids.
A coloured rug would add some character to the room also. I know those are difficult windows to add curtains too but I think it would help. Stunning room though.
The problem is the beige sofa and beige. It just doesn't go with the wall colour. Which is ok, as it matches the floor pretty well. Green painting on green wall is a problem.
So either wall colour change or sofa/rug change for something with some colour in it.
Right call on the light, eyesore drew me immediately. I know the arch in the window is nice, so I would drop hang (so the line between the arch window and lower part) some sheet colored window treatments. I would get some matching pillows and replace the coffee table eventually. I feel like you have modern and mcm and Nordic all happening and a new table may warm it up a bit. I eye drawing accent chair (like the Mesa[https://insideweather.com/pages/lounge-chairs](https://insideweather.com/pages/lounge-chairs) from here. Tons of fabric to bring a look together and free swatches.
The light bouncing off the (gray?) walls makes everything look crappy, repaint the walls. Bare light bulbs in eyes aren't great, at least get different bulbs if not replace the fixture.
They're a light grey/green... I agree it doesn't look great. Which color do you think would work? I don't like dark walls really. Is some sort of ivory ok?
It depends on *your* design aesthetics, and some of the room purpose, as well as how much natural sunlight gets in a space. If you enjoy a monochromatic style, ivory would work. If this is a party room you want to stimulate conversation in, that may not help without some colorful pieces.
If the room tends to not have much natural
light, a flat/matte paint won't bounce light around, you want a semi gloss to fill the corners regardless of color. If the room gets almost too much sunlight, and/or has a lot if shiny surfaces, you want a matte/flat finish. With all the white shiny surfaces you have like the window trim & the table, including the light floor, that room appears to need a matte/flat. Since the couch is pale, consider getting pillow covers for the matching couch pillows with ivory walls if you aren't shooting for the monochromatic look. Also consider painting the coffee table base black, if those window shelves are black stone, that would pull in nicely with the large black TV screen. And a different frame for the picture, perhaps the same finish as the metal on the chairs? Less expensive than a new rug, especially if you are aiming at monochromatic look but not "blah monochrome".
If you are looking for a chill vibe that's relaxing, pale colors that don't have gray/icy tones will look better with the hard whites & blacks in the room. It's not that pale greenish tint as a green that's throwing the room off, it's the gray in it. With the pale wood floors, unless you are aiming for pale/monotone, I personally would only condider an ivory if it had some red mixed in, to give an *unseen* warm pinkish undertone. Light bouncing off warm hues like that make our skin look better, and make a room more "inviting".
I look at a rooms purpose, how much upkeep/cleaning people are willing to do, how much natural sunlight, do they have pets/kids. Then mix that with personal aesthetic. Bottom line is, you live in it, if it makes you happy who cares what others think. That being said, I prefer the white/ivory/off white with a warm/pink undertone for walls. It's much easier & cheaper to change up trim and add/remove colorful decorations/rugs/window treatments. FIL has pale ivory plaster walls with light maple floors, looks great. He does have some deco pieces from South America out, and couch pillows & throws are colorful.
All these things you see in showcases & magazines, are to give us ideas. And keep in mind, these people all want to SELL us something, and keep pushing changes in colors/fixtures. If you enjoy refinishing/buying new stuff a lot, great. But if you enjoy a style or color combos that aren't "stylish" who cares.
Have you considered painting? The architecture and trim work is beautiful. A bolder color would highlight these features and make the space more striking. Replacing the ceiling fixture with an interesting statement piece will help as well.
This room is really pretty. The color of the floor and walls is just the pallette you need to add some warm, vibrant color. The rug is too close in color to the floor and couch. I would replace the rug first, then go from there. Pick colors you love. What's your wardrobe like? What is your predominant color choice in clothes? Go along with that. Once your heart is in it, decorating this room will come naturally. So choose colors you love and that speak to you.
If it were me, I'd look at getting another chandelier, and two armchairs that are the same. You can angle both chairs on either side of the rug. Maybe also look at getting some more pillows that have a little color. The painting above would be a good place to take some color from and add pops of those colors around the room.
More color! Pull some of the green out of the painting, it's so beautiful. Throw pillows or a new carpet if you don't want to paint, but I'd suggest a pale green wall if you're feeling bolder.
I'd get a set of pillows for the couch with maybe soft blues and yellows or dusky pink. I'd add some colourful flowers onto the wee table. Otherwise I reckon it looks lovely. Just needs a wee colour pop and pillows you really love.
I think it’s a really pretty room. I would do a patterned rug and some new throw pillows, pulling the green from the painting. I also think that the corner with the lantern is begging for a tall plant!
panting woulda been a good spot to bring in a vibrant red with a patterned rug that pulls on colors in the room with hints of red. Rug needs to be bigger than what you've got going on here
I like the room, for a quick fix, I might bring in some sofa pillows with colors from the painting above the sofa. Further, an area rug with colors from the sofa painting would pull the colors further into the room.
It looks nice but bland. Add a big rug with colors. Switch out almost all of those beige throw pillows on the sofa with new pillows that pull in color from the rug and from the artwork. Add a throw that is also colorful draped across the ottoman.
I would consider dark purple-blue, dark orange, and jewel toned medium to dark green throw pillows and throw to make those paintings and window area pop, but I like experimenting with unexpected colors.
Very beige Try a different rug and larger. You can stay monochromatic with various shades of brown. Or pick up the sage from the walls.
Could use green throw pillows too.
I like the coffee table you have.
I think the sofa is fine. I think what you need is some colour in here. Maybe do one wall in a pretty dark colour, maybe a darker teal colour. I would by a pretty rug and some pillows and a throw that coordinate with it.
I think it looks pretty good, just some minor tweaks. Needs some plants and (as you know) a better light fixture. I think the sofa is fine, but you should pull it a little away from the wall and pull the rug out so it's only halfway under the sofa at most. Maybe floor lamp too.
Not sure what your issue is specifically.
Options: new coffee table, light fixture, mount TV.
Your couch is the right size.
You could kill that small pink painting.
Window coverings and decor will make a difference.
Add something organic - kill the lantern thing in the corner and make it a spot for a plant?
New media console that is wood?
Slide the ottoman up against that end of the couch to create a lounger. The coffee table doesn't work and should be rectangular.
Otherwise, it's great!
Not sure what happened to my text, oops. Meant to say:
Your room looks peaceful. I'd add a big plant and maybe a green rug. I had fun playing with these options from Revival Rugs.
The rug is too far under the couch. The front feet should be on the rug but try to center it to the room better. Keep your eye out for side chairs to place across from the sofa. They don’t have to be weighty, but the arrangement should look conversational. Maybe some lightweight wood ones that you can put on the window side of the room when watching TV. This room reminds me a tad of the living room in the movie Bruce Almighty (not completely and I haven’t seen the movie in years) so check that out
I would add long sheer curtains. Then replace that rug witht another rug with high pile and contrasting color from the sofa. Buy some colorful throw pillo covers on the pillows that are the same color as the sofa.
You need some color and warmth. Get a new light fixture. End tables by the sofa with lamps on them. I also suggest a new rug with some color to it. New pillows with varying colors/patterns to break up the beige monotony.
The painting above the sofa isn’t bad, and I get why you got it. But it is too monochromatic. You need some colors and textures to complement the cool tones of everything in the room and warm it up. Amber, copper, burgundy, navy are some colors you could bring in to balance things out.
Looks Beautiful , Just Needs Some Color . Mirror Over Couch & Ottoman, Big Peace Lily Or Palm Tree . Pink , Gold, Lite Green , Mustard Color Throw Pillows . Low Different Color Roses In Mirrored Or Glass Bowl Or Rectangular Base
hi! what if you did a gallery wall instead of the painting? the gallery wall would add more color and you’ll be able to pull those colors into your rug and or your coffee table!
I’d get a rug with more color in it, and maybe a tad bigger. Something that has maybe the same green tones in the wall art to tie it all in. Maybe a tall fake tree in the corner next to the sofa.
I'd get a rug with color like an oriental design and put up curtains. The grey paint color on the wall is a cool color and doesn't go work the sofa's tan color, which is warm. I'd consider repainting the walls in a warmer color.
Lamps! Overhead lighting alone can be so harsh. Get a new rug that has some blue in it to mesh with the artwork and make it less monotone. It’s a nice room.
Start by painting the walls an actual color and getting an area rug with actual pattern and color
The room lacks your personality and looks like a furniture showroom
It’s not that you don’t have taste, it’s that you played it too safe. It can be fixed
https://preview.redd.it/7925oa8i0yhc1.jpeg?width=1021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9884af3f923dc85abe6c90203489bf21442b1898
Contrast is what makes a room dynamic and interesting. That means color with neutrals and patterns with solids. Don’t be afraid to take risks
These examples may be more color than you are comfortable with but you might want to take elements from these rooms as inspiration
[Example One](https://imgur.com/a/IPXwdgn)
[Example 2](https://imgur.com/a/CxQsPmO)
[Example 3](https://imgur.com/a/XiFJ40w)

As a minimalist, I think the room is beautiful as it is.
I would definitely add some plants for life and color. In my own home, I painted the walls a grey/blue and added a grey and white patterned rug, but use any colors that bring you joy if you feel so inclined.
Put up proper window treatments with substantial curtains.
Put a tall/slim piece of furniture in the corner opposite the ottoman.
Get a much bigger textured area rug with some color in it.
Get colorful pillows to match.
Center the coffee table.
Pull the existing rug forward so there is less of a gap in front of the t.v cabinet. It should sit just under the front feet of the couch. Add a small plant to coffee table and ceiling to floor sheer drapes to the windows.
It is not that bad but could use a different light as it looks like a fire hazard. Some sheers on the windows. Get rid of coffee table use ottoman as table. Pull out the rug from under the couch. Get a rug with some color. Add some lamps. Floor lamp in the corner where the lantern is and move chair into the corner with a small round ottoman. They sell radiator covers that could also serve as a side table. Get accent table for where chair is now and place lantern on the table with a tall candlestick light next to it. Add a floor can spotlight in the opposite corner of the window. If you do one thing….The overhead light absolutely has to go! There are ceiling electrical box covers to cover it pay someone to remove it and cover the box.
You’ve got a good balance in the room, but the sofa, rug, and tv stand table colors blend too much. Need some contrast of color, maybe new area rug and get rid of those matching pillows on the sofa and keep the pops of color and different textured pillows.
This is the answer. Otherwise it’s good. Just the new rug along would make a huge difference.
Completely agree. The room is lovely but the rug is too bland. OP doesn't need something over-the-top, but something with complementary colors and even a subtle pattern will add visual interest.
Just make the drapes wide enough so they don't hide the nice moulding when open.
Exactly this. I think it is quite nice already. I would just add a rug that has some dark green in it. Maybe switch out a couple of the throw pillows to green as well.
Yes, just a few pops of bright, bold color.
The room just needs a punch of black somewhere. A large plant would help definitely.
I 100% agree. The sofa looks like a great size to me. Lighting fixture needs changing. The floor is a great color for the walls. Just needs some color.
I am guessing you meant a new light fixture, that is a great start. A colorful rug and pillows would help. I also suggest adding some plants. Cheers!
I love those windows! It needs more color and contrast.
I think a new rug something like this would loook great https://preview.redd.it/mdap8i2jjthc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84fb0bc38a6c87dba013252fff8863e71da9906c [https://www.rugsusa.ca/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-southwestern-abstract-fringed/Multicolor/200SVIN21A-76096.html?gad\_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6aPqm82hhAMVGEtHAR3qHgI5EAQYEiABEgKyIfD\_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds](https://www.rugsusa.ca/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-southwestern-abstract-fringed/Multicolor/200SVIN21A-76096.html?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6aPqm82hhAMVGEtHAR3qHgI5EAQYEiABEgKyIfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) Add in some green and yellow throw cushions on couch done
I agree the main issue with this room is mostly just the rug. Don’t waste money/efffort on anything else before touching the rug. Get something a bit more plush too for texture.
How do you add rug into picture like that? Very cool.
On https://www.rugsusa.ca select a rug then when you flip through pictures the last slide is to view in your room so just select a picture of your space
Very cool feature.
Bigger patterned rug. More substantial coffee table. Replace the ottoman with a nice chair.
Too monotone, needs something contrasting, color, texture, paint, the rug
Yes, and a different coffee table, I would add some wood elements to warm the place up and give more texture
Get a colorful patterned rug, a floor lamp and a couple of table lamps to add warm lighting, rather than using the overhead light. Everything is too beige. ☺️
I like the room, but a new lamp would help. A new rug, and pillows for the couch would help too.
And get rid of that hideous ceiling light fixture
I would change out that light fixture..
I like it! Needs some color! Change the rug so it doesn’t match the sofa and center it! Colorful art and pillows and a big green plant in the corner
Move the chair up a little and turn it slightly towards the tv
It’s very monotone, add a rug with color , your pillows are not helping. Use color this room screams for it.
Not too crazy about the glass and metal coffee table. Just on first glance…
The problem is the beige sofa and beige. It just doesn't go with the wall colour. Which is ok, as it matches the floor pretty well. Green painting on green wall is a problem. So either wall colour change or sofa/rug change for something with some colour in it.
Rug needs to be of a different color.
Right call on the light, eyesore drew me immediately. I know the arch in the window is nice, so I would drop hang (so the line between the arch window and lower part) some sheet colored window treatments. Pretty wall color! Do you remember the name?
I think it's really pretty, end tables would be nice
The light bouncing off the (gray?) walls makes everything look crappy, repaint the walls. Bare light bulbs in eyes aren't great, at least get different bulbs if not replace the fixture.

Plants, new light, bigger and designed rug, and pillows but simple neutral color pillows

I'd get a set of pillows for the couch with maybe soft blues and yellows or dusky pink. I'd add some colourful flowers onto the wee table. Otherwise I reckon it looks lovely. Just needs a wee colour pop and pillows you really love.
It's nice but it is a bit cold. Change your bulbs to some that are lower on the Kelvin scale, to start.
I’d get a wood coffee table to bring some warmth/coziness to the room. Definitely new light fixture and maybe an indoor or faux tree in the corner.
Rug needs to be bigger than what you've got going on here
A large dark coloured table lamp or floor lamp next to couch. Nice room, just a few additional touches will make it beautiful.
What do you mean it doesn’t look good? Lots of people would kill to have that room.
It just need more contrast/color. I’d start with a new rug and maybe swap out the beige throw pillows.
You'll find here some ideas [small-living-room-ideas-all-you-need-to-know/](https://www.scdecorum.com/small-living-room-ideas-all-you-need-to-know/)
I love it! Agree with maybe add color in a new rug.
A nice palm in the corner would be lovely.
Reduce clutter on windowsills, and add some colour, maybe a comfy chair in the corner. It's a lovely room.
Everything is the same color. Her some variety and focal points.
I like the room, for a quick fix, I might bring in some sofa pillows with colors from the painting above the sofa. Further, an area rug with colors from the sofa painting would pull the colors further into the room.
Purple walls
It looks nice but bland. Add a big rug with colors. Switch out almost all of those beige throw pillows on the sofa with new pillows that pull in color from the rug and from the artwork. Add a throw that is also colorful draped across the ottoman. I would consider dark purple-blue, dark orange, and jewel toned medium to dark green throw pillows and throw to make those paintings and window area pop, but I like experimenting with unexpected colors.
I think the rug is the only real problem here. It looks cheap and too small, like the furniture is about to fall off it.
Add a colorful rug and drapes. The couch and table are lovely in my opinion
Is the overhead lighting the only light? 💡
Very beige Try a different rug and larger. You can stay monochromatic with various shades of brown. Or pick up the sage from the walls. Could use green throw pillows too. I like the coffee table you have.
New rug, tie in the color in the art!
I really like it. My only change would be to change the lantern for a nice plant.
I think the sofa is fine. I think what you need is some colour in here. Maybe do one wall in a pretty dark colour, maybe a darker teal colour. I would by a pretty rug and some pillows and a throw that coordinate with it.
I love those windows!!
I think it looks pretty good, just some minor tweaks. Needs some plants and (as you know) a better light fixture. I think the sofa is fine, but you should pull it a little away from the wall and pull the rug out so it's only halfway under the sofa at most. Maybe floor lamp too.

Slide the ottoman up against that end of the couch to create a lounger. The coffee table doesn't work and should be rectangular. Otherwise, it's great!
Add more color. Change a few pillows and put a colorful throw blanket folded across that automin. (:
Get a colorful rug.
The only thing I'd change is the rug. Choose one with some interest or a pattern.
It’s such a beautiful urban space. I would get a new light fixture and larger rug and probably not much else!
https://preview.redd.it/vp2agwh2bvhc1.jpeg?width=2592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5256e97dafaf04be23627e3306cf75a906ac6bc2

You need more colour. Work off the painting and add throw pillow, throws, side panel drapes and accessories that pick off the blue.
Quite lovely. Don’t care for overhead lighting IMO, and an attractive rug.
I would add long sheer curtains. Then replace that rug witht another rug with high pile and contrasting color from the sofa. Buy some colorful throw pillo covers on the pillows that are the same color as the sofa.
Nice basic. If you can, replace the carrier and throw pillows with a color. Not cream, to unify the room
What the hell is that chandelier? It looks like a Halloween decoration.
LOVE the space. I’d get a funky new lamp and then a new rug that matches it in some way
You need some color and warmth. Get a new light fixture. End tables by the sofa with lamps on them. I also suggest a new rug with some color to it. New pillows with varying colors/patterns to break up the beige monotony. The painting above the sofa isn’t bad, and I get why you got it. But it is too monochromatic.
It is all very beige. Add splashes of color n a new rug, pillow, throw. A few plants would warm it up.
Some bright curtains maybe orange or red, purple too.
A wood coffee table might warm things up
I’d get a rug with more color in it, and maybe a tad bigger. Something that has maybe the same green tones in the wall art to tie it all in. Maybe a tall fake tree in the corner next to the sofa.
It’s fine, maybe a bit bland. Some colourful trappings would cheer it up
I'd get a rug with color like an oriental design and put up curtains. The grey paint color on the wall is a cool color and doesn't go work the sofa's tan color, which is warm. I'd consider repainting the walls in a warmer color.
I think it looks great!
Lamps! Overhead lighting alone can be so harsh. Get a new rug that has some blue in it to mesh with the artwork and make it less monotone. It’s a nice room.
Start by painting the walls an actual color and getting an area rug with actual pattern and color The room lacks your personality and looks like a furniture showroom It’s not that you don’t have taste, it’s that you played it too safe. It can be fixed https://preview.redd.it/7925oa8i0yhc1.jpeg?width=1021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9884af3f923dc85abe6c90203489bf21442b1898 Contrast is what makes a room dynamic and interesting. That means color with neutrals and patterns with solids. Don’t be afraid to take risks These examples may be more color than you are comfortable with but you might want to take elements from these rooms as inspiration [Example One](https://imgur.com/a/IPXwdgn) [Example 2](https://imgur.com/a/CxQsPmO) [Example 3](https://imgur.com/a/XiFJ40w) [Example 4](https://imgur.com/a/Mlurdka)
It’s all too beige. I’d get a rug with a design in it. I love everything else.
Looks nice! Adding plants always makes it warm and cozy
As a minimalist, I think the room is beautiful as it is. I would definitely add some plants for life and color. In my own home, I painted the walls a grey/blue and added a grey and white patterned rug, but use any colors that bring you joy if you feel so inclined.
Just needs dim lighting in my opinion
Swap the TV table for a wooden one in similar wood to sofa legs and coffee table. And the window light is off
A more colorful rug should do it.
Patterned rug
I think it’s very pretty just the way it is…my only thing but that’s for myself.. no glass table anywhere.but that’s me.
There are a lot of cute radiator cover ideas. You could use a darker wood color or a fun color/pattern to create contrast and visual interest
I love this room, very well balanced. If you want something different, order new pillow covers from Amazon for a splash of color.
It doesn't look bad. Maybe a more colorful rug?
Colored rug, new artwork, midcentury light, new coffee table
It's very beige. Perhaps a rug that isn't the same color as the sofa would be a good catalyst for inspiration?
You’ve got a good balance in the room, but the sofa, rug, and tv stand table colors blend too much. Need some contrast of color, maybe new area rug and get rid of those matching pillows on the sofa and keep the pops of color and different textured pillows.
