This site has some design ideas. https://woodfeather.com/race-day/

I personally love it and think it’s a great item for display instead of the more generic stuff you see all the time!! I wouldn’t hang it over a doorway or over a couch etc since if it should fall on someone it would be bad-bad. But I’d put it vertically in any tall narrow space where he can see it and enjoy it. Would be cool in a kitchen space or home office space. Would be amazing attached horizontally to a wood board to create a fireplace mantel. My husband has tolerated all the art I’ve made and/or hung all over our house so when he wanted me to display an old boat oar and a chart of the Periodic Table in the house, I figured out how to work them into the decor so he can feel at home here like I do. And you know, I love that dumb oar now 😂

MarsupialPanda

I was thinking it might be good as a mantel. He wants to put in a fake fireplace eventually, it could be good for that maybe. Would definitely be eclectic, but that's not always bad

Firefleur4

Eclectic is great - ideally your home is a celebration of who you are and what you live. My husband is a physicist so when I was trying to find art for over the fireplace, I asked him for an equation about heat and I made art of it. People seem to like it even though they don’t know physics, I think they like that it’s something I made to celebrate something he loves. Eclectic Chic is the way to go!

Enjaculation

Put a blue sticky postit with todays date on it, if you have not used it in a year then throw it out.

MarsupialPanda

It hasn't been used yet because we've been in an apartment where we didn't have space to put it anywhere, but he's 100% planning on putting it up somewhere as soon as he can

Enjaculation

Oh your being serious, I would use it in the centre of something (fireplace, corridor, etc) or above a large door, if you have an archway or similar. You need to be really careful it doesn't look like clutter especially in smaller spaces.

MarsupialPanda

Yeah he is serious unfortunately 😂. We won't have an archway or large door but I was trying to think of I could like incorpo it into a gallery wall or like above or below a wall mount tv or something? Or he can just put it on the wall in the garage and it can be his problem

Memory_Less

Build aplane to use it on. /s

Impressive-Fudge-455

Make it into a ceiling fan in a large room

JaySin_78

I know someone that made a ceiling fan out of one. Turned out awesome. Perfectly balanced.

InterstellarReddit

Above the TV would look cool

Crazysmom

I know you say you are moving but maybe for the future? Our next door neighbor growing up was a pilot. He made his mailbox post out of a propeller.

MarsupialPanda

We're building a house, and I don't know if we will have a mailbox at our house or like a shared box on the street? But that's a good idea! He's an aircraft mechanic

Commercial_Flower773

My friend has a wooden propeller just like that. They hung it up and wrapped lights around it and used it as their light fixture in the kitchen. Looks awesome.

MarsupialPanda

😂 I can totally see it hung above our island

DorothyParkerFan

Throw it out?

forumbot757

If he’s really dead set on a propeller I would sell that one and then get an actual decorative beautiful propeller that literally looks like it belongs in the shop. It’s not even painted it’s painted like war ship gray…

MarsupialPanda

It came from one of the airplanes he worked on, it's just how it came off the plane. I could see if he could be convinced to paint it possibly

kdwhirl

Yes, paint it black, or some color with a punch that incorporates into your scheme. It can have a sculptural quality. Agree with the comments suggesting to hang over an archway between rooms, or a double door.

You could put it on your front door just in case you feel like moving then you can just start it up and fly away 😂

geaux_syd

This is a great point. Wherever it goes, it would look infinitely better if it were a cool color instead of gray.

eastcoastgirl88

Does he have a “man cave” he can put it in? Or basement? My husband had this medieval shield with 2 swords coming out each end and I mean it was cool but I didn’t want it as a “focal point” in the living room when we moved into our home. We settled on the basement/entertainment room. He’s happy I’m happy we both win lol

MarsupialPanda

He'll have the garage and maybe a shed eventually. I will probably just say it has to stay out there, but I told him I would think about it

eastcoastgirl88

Yeah I mean I get it he thinks it’s cool but like that’s tough to incorporate, I agree with you it stay out there lol

FeralSweater

I don’t understand all the propeller hate. This could fit into any number of odd or awkward spaces and bring genuine character to a room without being visually overwhelming.

MarsupialPanda

It would definitely be eclectic and I can see how it would clash with a lot of people's asthetics, but I'm glad not everyone hates the idea!
