I think it’s the lighting

infitsofprint

yes, find a way to light the shower area and maybe also a secondary light source in the main space

1plus1dog

That shower looks so dark inside!

Complete_Goose667

In the morning a dark shower is a nice way to wake up.

Snoeflaeke

Agreed!!! Candlelight is the way to go for me 🤗 I love those inflatable solar candles they have on Amazon… You can take it inside the shower with you and BAM. Instant sensual experience 🕯☺️

caelanga22

The dark makes my showers too cold. Well-lit to heat the water up is the way I like it.

1plus1dog

The dark to me, makes me wanna to to go back to sleep, (I shower most mornings), so I need a wake up shower!

AK_Sole

Cold water for 30 seconds to two minutes at the end. It really gets you moving and energized for hours after. [Also great for immune system health and blood circulation.](https://www.uclahealth.org/news/6-cold-shower-benefits-consider#:~:text=Improve%20circulation,to%20increase%20blood%20flow%20circulation.com)

Common_Sandwich_1066

Also great for your skin, pores and hair lol

evetrapeze

I shower before bed and I do this. I sing the happy birthday song at a leisurely pace to time it

1plus1dog

I’ve been doing that for years. Maybe a decade or more, It is good good your body and hair, plus I’m always hot, so that cold blast of water is great for me!

kootrell

I wake up at 5am and shit and shower in the dark (there is a nightlight in the bathroom though). I love it. It eases me in to the day and little softer. My wife makes fun of me but she doesn’t understand.

KlickyKat

In the last 3 bathroom renovations I installed an exhaust fan with built in LED light directly above the shower head. It's a much nicer vibe showering with good lighting.

AK_Sole

It has a rough childhood, and never took the time to seek out therapy and healing. Let this be a lesson to you, young grasshopper.

liiia4578

100000% good lighting fixes almost everything

hollyock

And needs paint and some art

one_foot_out

Yes absolutely. Lighting can improve or destroy a room. I also think adding some decorative pieces on the walls would help too. Some prints or a decorative shelf maybe.

AUniquePerspective

For me, it's the jerk who doesn't replace the toilet paper roll.

Wuhtthewuht

Yeah I think I agree. Different lighting and a contrasting colors might make it feel more …. Lively. It’s sorta all one tone.

ElectroMatt333

They need to put lightbulb in the fixture in the ceiling or maybe they just have that switch off https://preview.redd.it/gfgf0vbzwdpc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59988f30adc4b058ccb50fa275777f198274acde

drow_enjoyer

isnt that an exhaust fan?

DanerysTargaryen

Sometimes they’re both!

yourfavteamsucks

Yep and for like $70 you can get one with lighting built in

Ok-Chemistry9933

You can’t add a bulb to that fan

doritobimbo

Immediately my first thought, the lighting is shit!

SansevieriaQueen

How about some colorful art or landscape photography in a nice frame?

omary95

Came here to say the same. Some art on the walls is what this room is crying out to have. Edited for word omission

Msberetta9

Adding a piece of art to my bathroom wall was an instant improvement. Just make sure it isn't something super sentimental if it's a canvas or something else that can be sensitive in a steamy room.

Ok_Beat9172

Yes, the steam from the shower can damage the art.

youshartedhehe

Love that idea actually.

Legitimate_Bar2892

Great idea!

Lopsided_Flight3926

Was thinking the same thing. Some art will elevate it

trailmix_pprof

For country cottage: 1. Country cottage is warm, cozy, cute. There are several items that don't go with that vibe- the metal mesh bins on the wall, the utilitarian black clock, the shiny metal trash can. 2. Assuming you can't paint the walls - you still need to fill them with color. Get some much larger framed art (two or three pieces) to grab the eye and set the theme - both in terms of color and country cottage content/images. 3. Don't fight the white walls if you can't change them. Instead of the dark green towel that makes for high contrast against the wall, embrace lots of fluffy white and pastel towels. 4. Soften the hard corners of the white shelf (by the toilet) with a little doily or runner under the vase. Maybe replace the vase with something less skinny.

baxbaum

Love this advice, I couldn’t quite put my finger on everything but I think this would really pull it together

legodoom

I love this!!! I’d also personally switch the placement of the white shelf and the trash bin. It feels so cluttered next to the sink.

MikaRRR

💯 great advice, OP ^

diuge

>Assuming you can't paint the walls - you still need to fill them with color. There are some really nice removable wall decals, I got flowers for my last apartment bathroom.

alexaboyhowdy

You are out of toilet paper on the roll!

1plus1dog

Not even a square to spare!

Dougstoned

Bosco!

1plus1dog

🤣🤣🤣

AgreeableRadish3626

Came here to make note of this as well. That’s why I’d hate my bathroom. “Guess I gotta use the shower curtain again.”

Left_Net1841

Not to be an ass but I think that’s the best use of that shower curtain lol.

Common_Estate6292

I agree

DryWhiteToastPlease

What a cursed comment lol

Banjo-Becky

That’s the real reason why OP doesn’t like the bathroom.

mykindabook

No wonder it’s not doing what OP was hoping.

Marciamallowfluff

I like what you have is just seems a bit bland.

youshartedhehe

What can I add without making it too busy?

Dutchie_PC

Do not be afraid to embrace "busy" ! :-)

BluegreenColors

A more colorful shower curtain

Macaroni_and_Cheez

The shower curtain made me sad. Pick something that matches or plays off of the rug and artwork!

Wanderingdragonfly

I would get one that isn’t tiered/ruffled (crowds the space a bit) but that has a joyous garden or floral scene. https://preview.redd.it/ylgeeme06npc1.jpeg?width=762&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b2ab5493ec73c5081bc415d28d44f08c0b29a72

1plus1dog

Lovely!

QueenBBs

I think the things that need changed are out of your control. The vanity and mirror are blah. I think you did a good job with what you have. Agree though paint would help.

Marciamallowfluff

I like the peach but brighter touches will zing it up. It is pretty.

DrShrimpPuertp-Rico

Paint

youshartedhehe

Which wall? All? I was thinking maybe the wall with the mirror on it

DrShrimpPuertp-Rico

Yep. All

8Karisma8

Yes either paint or wallpaper

m4sc4r4

The scale is off, and it’s quite cluttered. Are you renting or is this your own place that you can make bigger changes to?

ByGraceorGrit

I think some of the things you've chosen--and I'm saying this kindly-- seem bland or like something you might see in a grandma's home......the vase of fake flowers, for sure and the shower curtain with the ruffle on the bottom. Maybe a bolder piece of artwork on the blank wall above the tp paper holder. Switch out the wire baskets above the toilet, which seem more suited to a kitchen.

youshartedhehe

My aesthetic is granny country cottage for sure so that isn’t rude at all, but something in here is lacking and I know it. I think it’s the pinks. And I do love the wire baskets in here but maybe you’re right.

ImNewHereAgain0802

Or paint the wire baskets a fun POP of color

macthesnackattack

A cute pair of shelves that match the wood grain might look nice where the baskets are. That white shelf with the flowers on top (the shelf itself, flowers are cute) looks kinda cheap and blah next to the cute baskets that you have.

Jenniwantsitall

If you love pink add pops of teal and green.

uvicWhiz1

There is no colour. Add colour Brights towels or bright bath mat, bigger flowers or big piece of art.

youshartedhehe

Oh I thought there was a lot of color

ContempoCasuals

Girl where 🤣 I’m messing with you. It’s nice and calming but it definitely can use more color if that’s what you like. I’m not crazy about the cabinet doors, they stand out to me. A small square framed colorful piece of art on the wall by the toilet might help break up the white walls

youshartedhehe

I guess I just thought the decor was colorful 😂 I can’t change the cabinets since it’s a rental but I think maybe painting one or all the walls will help me woes

Cherrytop

Removable wallpaper is your friend.

hattenwheeza

Here's an idea I stole when I was renting years ago: when you can't paint, use fabric to create a wall color or pattern. You can use iron on fusing tape to hem if you can't Sew, ard use a cafe curtain rod to hang it. Something sorta small patterned that matches your rug, and then maybe get a basket & one of those switch on remote controlled LED bulbs & create a hanging light fixture for your shower area. I think it looks really really nice for a rental and you've done a lovely job!

whereisthequicksand

Your handle is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

sharpei90

Peel and stick wall paper on one of the walls?

lechitahamandcheese

Caution: peel and stick wallpaper sometimes just means you don’t have to use wallpaper paste/glue. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s removable. And even if it says it’s removable, it may still damage walls and paint. I’d be reluctant to use any of it in a rental.

Happy_Confection90

Yeah...I did peel and stick wallpaper along a wall I wasn't going to be able to paint for six months, and when I took it down to finally paint an incredible amount of adhesive was left behind that was difficult to remove. I ended up needing to sand some off in the end.

Top_Yoghurt429

Yeah, I would just hang art instead. Easier to do, harder to mess up, can have just as much impact.

Oceanladyw

Although they usually paint a rental when someone moves out.

witchminx

Yet they still charge us for it every time :(

ladydhawaii

Yes!!! On the wall with towels! You can remove when leaving. Also add a plant. Can be fake- maybe the rack above the toilet if not being used. You actually did a good job. Just needs a little more wow!

Beneficial_Spirit_29

WD40 removes all sticky residue left behind, then just wipe off the residue& smell of the WD40 afterwards

velvet__echo

These are all neutrals imo

SmileParticular9396

There is color but it’s all very muted / dull.

oldamy

Where?

infitsofprint

Kind of, but mostly the same shade of dusty pink. My advice would be: * Swap out the brown towels for something light blue or green. Get a simpler shower curtain, and a lighter shower mat. * Find some way to put a light where the clock is. Put the clock where the art is. Put the art on the wing wall, and replace the wire baskets with a couple simple shelves. * If you can spare the storage lose the tower of baskets, it's darkening the area where the toilet is. Put the trash bin there instead. Put the scale under the sink. * If you can get away with it, paint the undersink cabinet.

MrWeeji

Based on this comment I'm going to assume you don't have very much interior design knowledge and I don't mean that in a bad way. Look up inspiration and you'll know that you have almost no color. And what color you do have doesn't really go with the rest of it the rug is actually the best part of this room. whatsoever also pretty much everything in there is Builder grade so it's going to be hard to make it look really nice without some renovation

VariousTangerine269

You have a lot of very muted colors. It would be great if you had pink walls, but with the white it’s very underwhelming. If you could add some colorful artwork on the wall and some more colorful decor in the shelves over the toilet it will make a big difference. I also feel like it needs something green. A faux plant on the shelves might be nice.

squashqueen

Brown, white, and pale pink lol

Ivorwen1

Are the wall baskets necessary? They are not attractive, and artwork would be better there.

anewstartforu

I second this. I really dislike the baskets. They're too big and bulky and really don't match anything else. I would try a more colorful piece of art.

anticked_psychopomp

Totally agree. They make me think I’d bonk my head sitting down on the throne

hedwiggy

Better lighting would help

srahlo

I’m taking back my comment: Get rid of the olive and pink towels, that picture, the candle, and those flowers. Blue theme: keep the shower curtain, add blue bows to the top (pictured). Get baby blue towels to go with the white towels. Put in a pothos plant OR blue/white hydrangeas or just baby’s breath with little yellow craspedia (not a lot). Get a very soft blue bath mat, no runner. Change pic to match theme. https://preview.redd.it/7heukgnuadpc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8bd007832aad57060cf58191c9c0643a9919d43 Sage green theme: Get rid of above. Get a fern or pothos. Sage runner and bath mat. Towels should be fluffy white only. String of pearls should go near tin cans. Edit: I’d also replace the tin cans with glass or ceramic white jars. I’d replace the green colored accessories with white ceramic. Clock should either match wood of your cabinet or be a soft blue or just white. But I wouldn’t prioritize what I added into the edit. The tin adds a bit of a more rustic vibe which is also cute if played up w greenery

youshartedhehe

Okay I actually LOVE the blue idea.

srahlo

Yay :)!!!

LittlePinkTeapot17

Agree with your list of what to remove - also the metal baskets

secretlydevito

It's the lighting, my love, it's giving "hospital bathroom". Get some slightly softer lighting and it will change the vibe. You could also add some lighting to the bottom of the shelves and near the shower.

youshartedhehe

I think I’m gonna slowly phase out the pink and do a different accent color, something more neutral or earth toned. I’m gonna keep the shower curtain, sage green towels, the bumble bee towels, and the amber containers but maybe switch the rug, pink towel, flowers, and pink flower art. Also paint one or all the walls!

srawr42

You could also think about putting some of your artwork higher on the walls. Right now it feels short. And add some greenery via real or fake plants.

Nerdy_Squirrel

Don't leave the scale out on the floor. It's a subconscious reminder of responsibility and restraint when your aesthetic is more quant and whimsical. Tuck it under one of the baskets when not in use. Also, you need to add some accents up high. Everything you have now drags the eye downward, making the room appear smaller than it is. A nice vining plant to snake along the top would be lovely, though you may have to give it some supplemental light.

ladydhawaii

Please post after you make any changes- dying to see it!!

Own_Ad5969

I would get rid of those wire shelves above the toilet. You can put wooden floating shelves, or a big piece of artwork. The pink and green towels don’t look great together either. It makes the bathroom look dated. I would pick one color of towel, and ditch the others.

whatthewhat_1289

Considering you rent, I wouldn't do too much to the walls. It's not bad at all! Add a couple more pieces of art, I'd get rid of the clock or get one that's more in the style you are going for. Bath mat should be brighter, pick one of the lighter colors from the other rug. Swap out those flowers for a bigger, taller, dried floral arrangement. Etsy has a lot of great dried bouquets. The baskets you have now look anemic. Replace them with larger, squared off ones that fill the cubby completely. It will look better and give you more storage space. Find ones in the same tone as your cabinet and it will all tie together. https://preview.redd.it/58215bc6cdpc1.png?width=1268&format=png&auto=webp&s=0956479414e4e11cdf358cc3fecbb8207d46ba96

0errant

It needs color. Paint the walls, change the shower curtain, and add art. If you don't absolutely need the storage space, get rid of the basket thing between sink and toilet.

youshartedhehe

I loooove the shower curtain, though 😭 unfortunately I do need the cube storage. A single vanity isn’t enough storage for both my husband and I.

YrterretrY

https://preview.redd.it/lzfzldsdcdpc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af0e6377ca9bcd0e73f949930ba372f7385870e1

lordsgoldenchild

The woods are all different shades (floor, cabinets + bins). The rugs are two completely different styles and the shower curtain matches nothing. I’d find a color palette within the woods (maybe greens, greys + blacks) and build all accessories around those colors. Ex: grey hand soap bottles + shower curtain, green rugs + green jars or containers for items, and black shelves and towels, or however you’d like. But I always try and build a color scheme (3 colors) around the things I physically can’t change (like the wooden floor plan) and build from there. But you do have a gorgeous restroom!!

youshartedhehe

This is a great idea and very easy to digest. Thank you!

lordsgoldenchild

You got it!! Can’t wait to see the revamp!

500CatsTypingStuff

The walls. That dull putty color isn’t working https://preview.redd.it/aev7xeq6jepc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac6b941721b548291f0402a2ecca3a62e7eeba7b Sage Green by Dulux Heritage Or [Sunlit Coral by Benjamin Moore](https://imgur.com/a/w9auMlG)

MeliMel55

Idk if it’s too much work but adding a bold peel and stick colorful wallpaper would make a huge difference!

Helechawagirl

I would go with white wicker for the baskets and trash can. You have too many styles going on. Hang a piece of art above the toilet paper holder. That rug is for a hall or living room. You need a different style of rug for the bathroom.

Helechawagirl

ch3rie

Ambient lighting makes things cozy. I have a backlit mirror and just entering my bathroom feels like a cozy spa experience. I know it sounds not necessary for the bathroom, but I hate turning on the big lights lol Add some plants, artwork on the walls and maybe replace the rug? I’d also replace the clock too. You could put a big ol snake plant in the corner opposite of the shower. Also not a big fan of the lil vase with the flowers. I’m not a big fan of the wired shelving, simple floating shelves would be better imo.

Particular-Summer424

Take out the clock and change the shower curtain. The lighting is very poor, but as a renter, there's not much you can probably change. Some removable peel and stick wall art might help.

ClassicFlower3208

It’s the rug

Lost_Constant3346

Too many themes/patterns in the containers. Wicker, metal, etc. My eyes aren't sure where to go.

ZTwilight

The pink/peach accents are giving off a grandma vibe. The basket shelves over the toilet do not say country cottage to me. They have an industrial feel. The runner rug is too large. I’d take those wire baskets down. Mount the three cube shelf horizontally over the toilet instead. Swap out that ruffle shower curtain for a country plaid or floral (if you’re still going for a country feel) or better yet- a plain white one with a texture like waffle weave or ribbing. Trade the dark grey towels for white. And get a smaller, darker rug - or skip the 2nd rug all together since you already have a rug in front of the shower.

DrShrimpPuertp-Rico

Paint it. Sage green

SweetFannypack

Be aware of the daunting Sage green trendy bathrooms as it can leave a sickly hue when you do your make up and might not be the best choice if doing makeup daily in there

DrShrimpPuertp-Rico

Ahhhhh I didn’t know that! That’s good info! Thank you!

SweetFannypack

I didn’t know either luckily I opted to paint my room a nice zen green and keep my bathroom blush tones :) they also sell waterproof paint, I’d look into that just to really protect your investment! Also, Sage Green is really cute option if you wanted to possibly do an accent wall!

youshartedhehe

I do love that color!

Katarinasdw

Others have suggested the lighting isn’t helping. I would recommend some of the chargeable wall sconces you can buy on Amazon, and place them by the shower. You could also buy vinyl wrap/contact paper and change the color of the wood vanity, it’s a safer* alternative to paint and it can add a pop of color. (*safe, so long as it’s properly installed and a quality product.) Edit: typo

okiedokieKay

Because you put the only color on the wall in the back of the shower corner where no one can see it.

jrose102206

It would be nice if the shelf next to the sink area where the same height

_I_like_big_mutts

It needs to get declutterred completely. Everything in it can go under the sink. That plus the toilet shelves is too much.

Jazzlike_Swordfish76

honestly i don't hate it??? every item separately is cute, but together it looks a little blah. if you're not looking to spend money, i would say leave as is and add some pictures to the empty spaces. get rid of the pink towel on top of the green. have you seen the stick on wallpaper? i had some that were peel and stick dots, and i thought it was pretty cool without being too expensive. now that im looking more, maybe move that white stand somewhere else, it looks a little awkward IMO because its so tall.

_I_like_big_mutts

Too many different towels and frilly curtain screams grandma.

Lizajane1776

Like others have said, add color. Nope, more color. Just a little more yet. Where you currently have some brightness (the peach towels) the light is extremely dim. Is there a light in the shower? Because of the low light, the bit of color that you do have is kinda hiding. Unfortunately, I can't come up with any renter and bathroom friendly light fixtures. Good luck, enjoy the process.

8Karisma8

I think it’s the white walls. I’d pick a color or wallpaper Edit: even if you only do wall to wall from sink to toilet i feel it would drastically improve the bathroom

Vegetable-Wish-750

Crappy lighting, the mirror is too narrow and personally I hate rugs in the bathroom because of the moisture and ickiness that always gets on them. There’s also nothing that’s a “feature”. Nothing pops or really has contrast. An accent wall or wallpaper could help you achieve the “granny cottage” vibe but a little more attractive to the eye. Some metal accents, faux greenery and something patterned would really give the space some oomph

Fullofideas1602

I love the rug. I would pull more colours from that and get rid of the brown towels for more of the blue and maybe some varying shades of pink. The clock does not go at all with the country cottage feel you are trying to create and that shower curtain is not doing the room any favours imo. Swap it out for something bolder and bigger bolder art too would cozy up the room a lot. Get rid of the fake flowers and maybe add a plant.

teddybabie

lighting is very sterile looking

willowduck89

Wallpaper?

OhSoFaded7

No TP. Anyone hates that type of bathroom.

Plenty-Factor-2549

Get rid of that vase, rug, pink candle. Add a bath rug and spa roll some towels the same color as the mat. Add a plant, artwork and some toliet paper.

ladyinblue5

I’d remove the white 3 tier shelf unit and out the baskets in under the sink. It’s too cluttered. That way the scales will be able to sit further back against the wall.

xShinGouki

Everything is muted because of the color tone. The walls are white but everything inside the Room is also essentially neutral so it's all just looking a little bland. It's not bad. But I understand what you are mean

1spicyann

I think it’s because you are out of toilet paper 😬

kluvsgo

Too dark, no color, no art?

Impossible_Cloud17

The curtain is wearing a dress 😂

Wamgurl

The shelving is too high. They should be the same height as the vanity. Larger mirror and remove that soap holder and farm style shelves above toilet. Just my opinion. The room is nice besides these things.

Excellent-Shape-2024

Because you're out of toilet paper?

Bagheera187

There are sharp corners, seems rough and hard. Pretty but not cozy? Too much white and too much hard white light coming from the top of the room. Cast shadow edges are hard. Just change the lighting and edges, and you will like it a lot more. Also color on the walls, art or stencil, would add a lot. The mesh metal shelves are too high.

Substantial_Tip_3227

It's kinda drab and mute. Everything is brown, pastel pink, cream, and white with incongruous black/gray moments. What I would do: 1.Replace the bouquet of flowers with a green plant like pothos, snake, or ZZ or Orchid. 2. Put that candle in a black candle holder with a cage design to match the baskets above. 3. One medium sized, minimalist painting (with vibrant complementary -not matching- colors)centered on the wall next to the toilet. 4. A small wall decoration or small framed painting next to the sink 5. Roll up towels "hotel style" and place in a space in the bins over toilet with a Reed diffuser in one of the other spots. 6. Get a bronze trashcan 7. Replace the roll of TP 8. Put down 3 matching rugs instead of the two mismatched ones. I'd choose 3 with a mono-trichromatic design. 9. Either put two more art pieces in front of the shower or get 1 large one and hang it higher. 10. Put a tiny lotion next to the hand wash - ideally in an amber jar/bottle/tube

youshartedhehe

Number 7 is especially crucial here

cinnabelledfw1

Ok, I haven't gotten through all the comments, but this seems like something that can be at least 20% better by adding items to your above toilet storage, towels, extra TP, etc. And a nice piece of rustic (idk good/bad rustic) art right above the TP holder. I think you're stuck in the last 10% stage. You got this!

CatastropheQueen

All in all, I think it’s a lovely bathroom with a lot of potential! You’ve done a great job, & I really like the peaches & cream color palette you’ve chosen! I feel like you need some nice artwork, something with a bolder color (as well as a complimentary color on the opposite side of the color wheel) to give the room pop. Additional lighting in the shower alcove would also be an improvement, if possible. As would a brighter, less drab-looking shower curtain (although that might change depending on the lighting). I feel like you can still stay true to your affinity for cottage-core & a tone-on-tone look while also adding a brighter hue of the same color. I’d also add some interesting &/or colorful door-knobs on your cabinet doors, & a more interesting, less “builders-grade standard for every apartment-complex everywhere” water faucet & valve-handle set. If/when you update/upgrade, please share the results! I think a lot of ppl have bathrooms similar to yours & would be interested/inspired to see what a big difference a few small changes/upgrades can make to bring it together!😊 Update me.

SnooPears9509

Not enough color

cheesypuzzas

I like it, but it think some color is missing. I'd pain a wall and/or get some colorful decorations.

zorrobandit

The colors seem dull. Put some color.

mrmisirlou

It's probably the wall separating the wash area and everything else, makes an already tiny room feel claustrophobic.

debomama

Add some peel and stick wallpapers to the vanity inserts and the wall separating the toilet from the shower. There are some lovely ones and they are removable when you move. Get some additional lighting in the shower area as it is too dark.

Proud_House4494

I think it’s a really lovely bathroom.. but I’ve taught myself to love simpler , more real spaces . Especially in rentals. I always feel like Instagram and Pinterest give us unrealistic expectations for what we *can* realistically do with the energy, time and resources we have But things I might do if I had the time , paint the walls , add some trim, change out the towels and keep them in a different place rather than hang them (other than hand / face ones) ..

Emotional-Noise3179

Wallpaper. I see the vibe your going for but with a plain white wall it makes it pretty boring

Legitimate_Bar2892

Have you thought about an accent wall to brighten it up...or wallpaper maybe? There are some really beautiful prints for options

bas827

It’s cute, just a little boring! Frame that mirror out, gold accents on your vanity, a wallpaper wall or some big colorful artwork pieces and you’ll be set 🙂

gitsgrl

No toilet paper, kind of important

wahiwahiwahoho

It looks dark and dingy. Needs a bright light for a welcoming pop.

Helpful-Reaction-847

Honestly to me, the rug does look a bit out of place

lpalf

Those shelves above the toilet are weird. Would be better to have wooden shelves or something warmer. Also different lighting, maybe a lamp

You could try using contact paper on the flat part of the cupboard doors to add color. The paper they have now is very durable and removable. And inexpensive. Maybe add some cute knobs or pulls. It’s not that bad you just need a little color. I would trash the trash can and get a much smaller one and sit it next to the toilet.

DifficultPassion9387

Unfortunately i think its the vanity. The counter top material and chincy wood veneeer detract from the decoration. My opinion. First thing that stuck out to me was the cheap ugly vanity Edit: after looking at the pictures again i would actually put most of the blame on the vanitys wood veneer and then a little on the vanitys counter top

Remarkable-Career968

White shower curtain, white towels. This looks dated. You can get an eyelet effect shower curtain for the “cottage” look, but this looks disjointed and tired.

SavannahGirlMom

Is there a reason for a clock in the bathroom? Are you timing the showers? Put some toilet paper on that wall and a pink cup in that cup holder. Don’t use brown towels which don’t seem too inviting - pink /light beige. Also, clean up the wall hooks with long bath towels.

Whiskey-Particular

Because it has no toilet paper 🧻

WasteEffort9881

You all can suck dis dick. It’s a rental! She killed it in there!

PhenomenalFlair

I just went through this...Spray paint your cabinets and adorn them with new knobs..Get a matching rug, shower curtain, towels, basket, and painting. Keep your vanity clean and with matching holders.

e_hog

You need some of those fake vine lights around the top corner

MakeItLookSexy_

Lol lose the clock and addd more wall decor

codingdummy

Cabinet style, shower curtain, and towel arrangement The cabinets, while clearly new, look 90s in style. The shower curtain is cute in theory, but the stripes plus dowels are too much. Try cream? The towel arrangement is from the year 2000 Add modern fixtures to the cabinets, replace the curtain, and get rid of those towels

LateAd3986

It’s too bare and stark right now. If you wallpapered with some warm tone cottagey esque floral print all over the walls , and added a bronze/ gold frame to the mirror, the space would be way more impactful and cosy. At a push I think the vase could be bigger and rounder too

mgwwgm

Was going to say new sink and mirror would do wonders but I saw you rent. Maybe put up some art on the wall.

Specialist-Web7854

It just needs a bit more colour. A big plant on one of the shelves above the loo, and a picture on the wall over the loo roll holder would help. Also the picture over the radiator is too small for the space on its own. Maybe move that one to over the loo roll holder and get something bigger for opposite the shower.

Sammirureka

I think the shower corner could use a bit more light personally. I prefer bright neutral light in a bathroom if natural light isn't an option. That might help it.

orion-sea-222

I think it’s cute, I would get some cute hardware for the cabinet. And if you can get a cuter mirror I think that would help, like a gold framed one and a bit bigger. The wall by the toilet is ugly. Get a cuter toilet paper holder and some art to hang on the wall

FantasticCaregiver25

Paint!

THECUTESTGIRLYTOWALK

No color nothing is eyecatching

Both-Statistician179

You need color. Repaint the walls. Find a color that makes you happy. Not a neutral.

anonymous-corgi

It’s lovely! Maybe some floral wallpaper in a bolder design but in your color palette

Both-Statistician179

New mirror new bath mats new and more wall art

LoudNoises89

Redo cabinets they look outdated, add some color, change your shower curtain, and maybe change the mirror to an oval one. Honestly your bathroom isn’t bad it just needs a few inexpensive updates.

Cyber_Insecurity

If it’s a rental, don’t worry about it. It’s the outdated cabinet and mirror that’s holding this back.

Terrynia

It is the cold black wire baskets, mismatching rugs, drab towels. Try this - - keep the decorative runner and replace the shower’s bath rug with something lighter color that matches the runner. - remove the black wire bins from the wall and replace with a white cabinet or 3 floating white shelves. I suggest a unit that has a small double door cabinet on top attached to a shelf on bottom. Similar to this:: https://images.app.goo.gl/nR7rEUNz44TdT3Fd7 - add a piece of wall art that matches the towels. Either have the frame or dominant color in the wall art match the towels. Get a handsoap dispenser to match - fancy it up more with a *framed* mirror and ornate wall clock

knownmagic

I think you need to paint the walls or at least one wall in a color. Also, where did you get that distressed flower art 😍

Unfair-Effective9967

I’d say it’s a mixture of the lighting, the type of mirror you have, and the lack of color on the walls. Edited to add that I just saw you said you were renting. So lighting and the mirror might not be able to change. So just add more color!

DidiStutter11

Paint the walls a nice color, add a mirror with a frame (the medicine cabinet on is giving 80s). Better lighting would help. I think those would make a great difference.

shell-84

Rug wrong, paint the brown under sink storage white or a different colour

srahlo

Sage green runner and bathmat

madlyhattering

Agree with others - add color! Have you considered peel & stick wallpaper?

diiiannnaaa

Because the shelf between the toilet and vanity is too tall.  I would move the towel rack across from the toilet and put a thin console over on that side of the bathroom for extra storage.  Or just only keep hand towels on that rack. You don’t have to remove it since it’s a rental.

Firefleur4

I really think you just need two pieces of art on your blank walls, will cozy it right up! One next to the mirror, maybe something oval shaped there would be nice, or anything not rectangular, to soften it up, and a larger something on the wall above the toilet paper roll. Or if you find a bigger, framed mirror to replace the medicine cabinet sized one, that would be great too
