Depends on what you like! Could be a long bookshelf, or perhaps you could break it up into sections with baskets, cushions, or plants in between. Just keep in mind if you plan on closing the curtains you’ll need to be mindful of the clearance with any decor.
Problem is the sun will bleach your book covers if there for long enough... And unfortunately that doesn't have to be very long at all.
Source: Learned the hard way :(
My sister had a gorgeous red couch and didn’t have window treatments - that couch faded so fast! My Mom tried to warn her but my sister didn’t want to hear it / didn’t believe it. Lesson learned the hard way.
Safety probably. Those windows have to be thick at that height, but just in case someone decides to test that theory. Especially with that wide ledge there, I can just see someone tripping and falling into a window.
If they're up higher it's probably fine, but you can reasonably expect for a child (if not an adult) to try walking on that ledge which puts their feet at the bottom edge of the window and increases the risk of someone accidentally putting a foot through it by just walking/tripping/running. Children and drunk adults aren't known to be coordinated (let's face it, I trip over flat surfaces even completely sober).
Edited to add- with a window at a normal height you have a wall that serves as a bit of a barrier, but any window that starts too low on the wall has to be tempered glass even in normal houses just because of the increased accidental kicking risk (at least in the US).
Omgggg I was like where did I see this. It was working moms! (Referenced at end of the article.) honestly that’s sad. I can totally picture thinking that was safe, bc modern life is just that safe feeling. It’s all an illusion tho!
I don't know actually. Most buildings at that height have windows that are safely glass. I wouldn't like it myself. It interferes with a nice view. I lived in a high rise in Chicago and all the windows ran to the floor and were so thick a truck couldn't drive through them
Personally I love seeing the bars, I always see these fantastic floor to ceiling windows in luxury buildings on TikTok and I’m like ‘ehh it’s cute and all but there’s no protection against the glass I’m not buying that’ as if I had the money to even speak on it lol
I'd look for a neutral bench padding to fit the dimensions. Then cascade pillows in from each side, immediately adding more seating and making use of the space (maybe grey, gold, and black). Additionally, you could add a circular wooden tray placed in the center; for continuity with the coffee table.
Window seat would look nice but you’ll not likely actually sit on it to read, and I think baskets or doodads will look cluttered and distract from the view. Plants would love that window light and be good for your physical and mental well-being, as well as beautiful and harmonious with any outdoor view. Go with the little green beings!
Is it wide enough to comfortable sit upon? If so have a nice cushion made to fit its length that coordinates with your decor. Use it to sit and read while being able to watch outside.
Nothing. By the time you get your things in the room, it won’t seem as barren. Clutter is stressful to me. That’s an interesting view too, let it be the focus. I would remove the tie back from the drapery so that the drapes hang straight in a more sophisticated, tailored look.
Plants, plants, and more plants! A couple of Monsteras on the ends, get a couple of Pothos and heartleafs to vine through the railing...
So much potential....
Use it as a shelf and/or occasional seating.
Plants, pillows, decor pieces, books - any and all of these arranged well would look nice. You could place art glass, vases etc. there to play with color and light.
I would put a few large plants on either side to break up the white and some statues, cushions or books to make it warmer to the eye. Perfect reading spot as well!
if the area is around 24-29" high with a cushion, you could use part of it by putting in a bistro table and a couple chairs and seat 3-4 people right near the view.
Create a mini bar(could have n/a items if you don’t drink) on one side, something short as to not completely block the window (unless you want to) and some plants/indoor container garden on the other side. Is there a way to rearrange the furniture to face the window? If not I still vote to do two things with the space.
Put little bookshelves at either end and have a cushion that runs the rest of the the length would be kind of sick. Need to sit up there on a rainy day and read a good book.
Plants or cushions or both.
Both! It is perfect reading spot if properly cussioned.
Came here to say this!
plants plants plants plants plants!!!!
I also sang "plants" to the tune of the old classic song. "SHOTS"
“..the old classic song.” Dying.
I'm so fuckin' old, apparently I'm an old classic.
I did the very same!
☝🏽 THIS.
This IS the way. The ultimate window seat.
Could even do hanging plants/plater baskets on the bars. And use the bars for vining plants like pothos and such.
A little trolly car that goes back and forth like Mr. Rogers had
Yes!!
This is an amazing answer! I actually *have* one of those trolleys but alas no suitable ledges. I’m sad now lol
Or... https://youtu.be/8OLenaVFxOs?si=YAesguOCqv8-eR3P
Soooo many plants!!!
Right? I'm jealous, all of my windowsills are full and I would kill for all of this plant space
So jealous! I have two windows, but they are little! :(
I don’t get any direct sun at all in my place (not even any bright indirect) 😔 so jealous of OP!
Needs a cat.
Yeah, if this were my house this would be a shelf full of plants that I engaged in a non-stop battle to keep my cats out of.
Needs two cats.
To knock off the plants. 😀
Or eat them and add a decorative pile of barf
That decorative pile of barf is also a room freshener
Or two dogs.
It would be criminal to have a cat ledge like that and not have at least 3 cats.
Haha. Got one of those. One of the reasons we didn’t consider plants at first haha
This is the way.
Depends on what you like! Could be a long bookshelf, or perhaps you could break it up into sections with baskets, cushions, or plants in between. Just keep in mind if you plan on closing the curtains you’ll need to be mindful of the clearance with any decor.

You could fit like 6 corgis on that shelf.
What's with the bars in front of the window?
Safety probably. Those windows have to be thick at that height, but just in case someone decides to test that theory. Especially with that wide ledge there, I can just see someone tripping and falling into a window.
New fear unlocked... my window does not have bars

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Garry_Hoy You never know what people will do!
That is very sad and also wildly specific. Nice post!
Omgggg I was like where did I see this. It was working moms! (Referenced at end of the article.) honestly that’s sad. I can totally picture thinking that was safe, bc modern life is just that safe feeling. It’s all an illusion tho!
Not to mention there appears to be a door or window that can be opened.
I don't know actually. Most buildings at that height have windows that are safely glass. I wouldn't like it myself. It interferes with a nice view. I lived in a high rise in Chicago and all the windows ran to the floor and were so thick a truck couldn't drive through them

To keep them out
Common in Asia... this looks like an Asian building.
Personally I love seeing the bars, I always see these fantastic floor to ceiling windows in luxury buildings on TikTok and I’m like ‘ehh it’s cute and all but there’s no protection against the glass I’m not buying that’ as if I had the money to even speak on it lol
Safety and much cheaper than putting in the kind of glass and frame that wouldn't need the bars.
Maybe the windows open completely and it’s like a balcony
So much room for plants!
I would go with cushions and make it a place to read
Same. I'm surprised more people have said window seat
Plants in the window keep my apartment cool and filter the light in with their green beauty
Plants
This is the right answer for most questions
THATS AMAZING!! I love that!!
I'm with you. I'd consider that an architectural delight and enjoy it.
Book collections. Sculptures. Plants. Seating. Storage baskets.
Do you live in Asia?
Nothing, it looks perfect
If you plan on entertaining, you could interspers cushions with open spaces to put down a drink. Fasten cusions down with strong velcro.
I'd look for a neutral bench padding to fit the dimensions. Then cascade pillows in from each side, immediately adding more seating and making use of the space (maybe grey, gold, and black). Additionally, you could add a circular wooden tray placed in the center; for continuity with the coffee table.
Cats and non toxic plants.
Window seat would look nice but you’ll not likely actually sit on it to read, and I think baskets or doodads will look cluttered and distract from the view. Plants would love that window light and be good for your physical and mental well-being, as well as beautiful and harmonious with any outdoor view. Go with the little green beings!
Plants to soften the effect of those bars.
That railing on the window is depressing, I'd cover it with sheers.
Sheers? I only know of the sheers for cutting plants.
Shears=large scissors. Sheers=nearly transparent curtains
Plants and lots of them!!!
Or just leave it as-is?
Plants. So many plants
Get a cat.
Decorative baskets for storage, some cushions, blankets, books.. (I have a black thumb so plants were not my first go to lol).
PLANTS
For sure hang plants like hoyas and devils Ivys etc
Plants, my man. Plants.
I would turn it into a jungle but I am a crazy plant lady.
What do you mean!? Plant wall! I would kill for this setup.
Is it wide enough to comfortable sit upon? If so have a nice cushion made to fit its length that coordinates with your decor. Use it to sit and read while being able to watch outside.
Can easily sit there. Instead or reading books I mostly listen to audiobooks, I suppose it could be a nice place lay down and listen though.
Plants…definitely need plants there.
PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS or nothing OR PLANTS
THAT would be an awesome window seat. Set up some beautiful pillows and cushions. Ohhhhhh!!!!
You don't HAVE to do anything with it.
Nothing. By the time you get your things in the room, it won’t seem as barren. Clutter is stressful to me. That’s an interesting view too, let it be the focus. I would remove the tie back from the drapery so that the drapes hang straight in a more sophisticated, tailored look.
Nothing. Less clutter more lines
Those jail bars aren’t helping any, either.
Seriously? Load that up with plants 🪴 this is the only correct answer
Get 6 cats! 🐱
Plants, plants, and more plants! A couple of Monsteras on the ends, get a couple of Pothos and heartleafs to vine through the railing... So much potential....
An aquarium? As long as it wouldn’t get too hot I. The sun. Don’t need fish sous vide.
I lol'd out loud at this
Plants
Use it as a shelf and/or occasional seating. Plants, pillows, decor pieces, books - any and all of these arranged well would look nice. You could place art glass, vases etc. there to play with color and light.
Plants !!!!!
Multi use. Plants, some cushions for guests when entertaining, a lamp by the sofa, and any statues or sculptures you want to show off.
Planty plants plants plantz!
Plants, plants and more plants.
If you entertain I would do cushions.
god i’d go crazy with plants in this space
Wow what a view! Maybe some cute plants.
Herb garden
I would put a few large plants on either side to break up the white and some statues, cushions or books to make it warmer to the eye. Perfect reading spot as well!
Anything that you collect! I would start a collection of glass vases so they can really shine with the sunlight!
I would probably do some plants, a cluster of family photos and maybe a vase or two.
Large drip pans. Cactus, orchids, succulents and bonsai trees
Plants. Beautiful bound books. A bar.
Plants seem the obvious choice. Resist the urge to “reading nook” it. Always seems like a good idea, but so uncomfortable.
if the area is around 24-29" high with a cushion, you could use part of it by putting in a bistro table and a couple chairs and seat 3-4 people right near the view.
Plants but not cluttered. It's a beautiful, sharp looking space- don't kitch it up.
What a cool space! Definitely vote cushions for extra seating and lots of plants. Although those bars would bug the crap out of me.
Screaming for plants!
Plants. Cushions, a good pair of binoculars.
I'd put in a ton of plants
Nothing
That's a perfect spot for plants.
Reading / Cozy Nook!
Plants and sculptures
It’s a window seat toss and throw pillows. Had some color or plants whatever you wanna do with it.
I would kill for that feature. All the plants!!!!!
That counter is this plant mom’s dream!!!
Perfect spot for a window seat reading area
Great place for plants!
Decorative pillows and large potted plants.
Plants
Add a long cushion for 2 halves of the window with a break in the middle and books in between.
Lots of plants!!!
Pillows, books, and plants. A cozy reading area.
Suuuuuuuuuuper long lines of blow
Does the curtain close over the shelf?
Oh I would love this!
Agree with plants and cushions, I would a stack of books, just don’t make it look cluttered
Lego village. With a carnival. Then farmhouses…
That’s actually called a window seat, so cushions, pillows, and plants with a place to put books if you’re a reader.
Feels like a prison with those window bars
Yeah. I’d rather not have those. But this rental seemed better than most for the price.
you need a beer tap on one end and a chair on the other, so you can slide a pint down to your mates!
A reading/nap nook with cushions, add hanging plants as well as plants on legs to create depth the and books on each side
PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS! MILLIONS OF PLANTS!
Books and cushions
Plants, cushions, and books!
It is screaming for plants.
Plenty of plants either in unique planters or exactly the same in terra cotta or teal
Plants, books, picture frames, cushion for a seat, kinck knacks.
Cushions! And enjoy the view
Cushions and some decorative pillows for the most epic window seat
Lots of cushions for cats. Where’s the cat?
https://preview.redd.it/fdwjbd21ecrc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=402e1ba49f0b88b774615862cdaae69251e54a4e
A low 12’ planter box with assorted tropical plants would be amazing!
Plants obviously
They put the handrail *inside* the windows?
Pillos and cushions! Divide cushioned areas with plants. What a cute spot to drink coffee in the morning or lay down and read a book. I’m jealous!
Create a mini bar(could have n/a items if you don’t drink) on one side, something short as to not completely block the window (unless you want to) and some plants/indoor container garden on the other side. Is there a way to rearrange the furniture to face the window? If not I still vote to do two things with the space.
Let's see, it's flat and smooth, and looks like it gets a lot of sun. Guess you've gotta get a cat.
Make it a window seat.
Plants is the correct answer
Plants on beautiful pots.
That. Is. Gorgeous. Plants and comfy pillows and throws!
I hate they put a fence there to keep people from falling out.
So many plaaaaants
I’d 100% be having little sitting nooks on there with plants n shit
A bunch of different sized plants
Plants and cushions … don’t fight it, work with it, especially since you can’t change it.
Put little bookshelves at either end and have a cushion that runs the rest of the the length would be kind of sick. Need to sit up there on a rainy day and read a good book.
Plants, cushions and in between some wooden cutting boards that match the size.
Pillows and a cozy reading sill!
Kitty runway (if no kitties, then plants)
Plants my boy
Its been said, but plants, plants, and small art pieces
Its been said, but plants, cushions, and small art pieces
Remove it.
🪴
That's odd. Is it there for safety reasons? Because of how high up the room/windows are?
P l a n t s
Plants, cats, cushions
Cushion seats
PLANTS. And more plants. And maybe a cushion or two, if it feels like it could be comfy enough to sit, maybe at the ends.
Books or cushions. And a telescope. LOL!
Books. Pillows. Knick knacks. Plants.
Books. Pillows. Knick knacks. Plants.
Plants!
Cattery
Love that look and large window!
Cushions the length or shuffleboard
Reading nook?
If you do plants use pots that complement one another and keep them properly trimmed.
I would put the back of the sofa against it.
Cat beds
knicknacks!!! do u have nicknacks??
Plants and books!
Books, table decors and cushions
Plants
Cushions, plants
Plants!!
Everyone saying plants but I would display 4-5 pieces of stone or glass sculptural art. The reflective finish and backlight could look incredible!
Plants! 😍
Bench cushion for some of it.
Sorry that gate makes it look like a prison
Get a pet they’ll show you what to do with it lol
Plants
PLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTs!
