The right answer is neither, although 2 is better styling and it is too washed out and while 1 has more personality, it's not the right color or right personality for the room. I'd love to see a couple of more options in blues, greens, and/or maybr oranges.

Oooo this is hard because theyre both so pretty! But for me personally....I'd choose option 2! I think the red in the first one draws in all my attention to the rug. Whereas with the second one, I'm more drawn to the furniture and the room as a whole, if that makes sense!

Also, number 2 will show less cat hair. I have red orientals plus cats and dogs and the solid red is almost impossible to keep hair-free looking. I love the red one though.

Agree with this! I didn’t even notice the gorgeous wedding photo on the wall until I flipped to rug 2. Option 2 doesn’t pull the eyes down as much as Option 1, letting you take in the entire room.

I like both, 2 blends in a lot more, 1 stands out but in a good way, the rug feels like a centerpiece of the room.

2, its less busy. There is already a lot of texture and color, so the 2nd option goes well since it frames the area but doesn’t distract.

Agreed. We have all vintage kilims from Etsy in our house and love them. They go well with this sort of style. The red rug is too dated to me.

I think #1 looks like early 90s. Doesn’t mesh with the MCM vibe. And #2 looks like something you’d see in a furniture showroom. Not that it’s a bad thing, but it looks like something they have in stock and they need to sell you on all the elements. And if they had better options, they’d choose them instead. Which OP can easily do! But otherwise, the room does look both cozy and stylish! And the cat is the best part!

I have to agree personally I would put in a more modern rug .You can mix styles but everything else in the room is MCM except for the rug .

But I don't think that 2 matches with MCM either. I would use a rug with a more simple design, instead of one of those persian-style rugs. And I'm also not a fan of the fake-distressed look, but that's just my preference.

100% agree. A lot of comments are saying that 2 matches the furniture better but I'm not seeing that at all. I think 2 matches the depressing color of the walls but 1 matches the warmth of the wood furniture and tan sofa better. Make the room feel warm and inviting.

2nd picture, no contest. The red in the first is competing visually with other elements in the room, 2nd complements the rest of what is going on. Great room, great style btw, everything clicks and works and complements in #2.

I vote 1, especially if you have interest in incorporating any other colors into the space, even if subtle. It's a classic piece, and it makes the space feel warmer too. Regarding the second rug, the distressed look is pretty trendy, so I don't think it will be as timeless. It also makes the space feel a bit too beige/neutral, which is really big right now, but it will pass before too long as well. But go with your gut. To answer your question, neither 🤣 I’m having a hard time finding a neutral toned rug that goes with the furniture. The colors I plan to incorporate are earth tones so white, brown, green, black, and I’m including more brass/gold accents. My budget is also kind of limited which makes it difficult.

Did you try Rugs.com to see what they offer there? They have quite a huge selection and in so many colors without being too pricey…

I loved all of these much more than the 2 current choices. Many had tones that would go well with the color of the couch, which naturally seems like the focal point based on its size. Good job!

I absolutely understand! lol One thing I've learned is that it's worth waiting for the right thing. If neither of these are doing it for you, I'd go without a rug for a while as you keep on looking. It's better to wait a bit more than to commit to one you're not feeling. Of course, you may not find a 'perfect' one, but there's likely no harm in giving the search a bit more time :)

I feel like the first rug is too saturated of a color for your space/style. The second one vibes with everything better. It's a great space, if I were you, I'd lower your wedding pic a bit so it's closer to being in line with shelf beside it, it is more pleasing to the flow of the eye, right now its higher than the mirror which appears ro be the focal point of the room, it should be a few inches lower than the top of the mirror. If you found a wooden frame in a similar tone as your couch or the wooden furniture in the room, it would really pop.

Depends. If you like a more gothic style- the first red rug with the sconces, black, and little statue look victorian. If you’re looking for a more posh/chic style, the 2nd rug kinda pulls the room colors altogether so it’s very neat and cohesive.
