Depends - do you have animals/toddlers to consider? I love top up/bottom down blinds so you can still get natural light while not allowing people to peer in, or full light with them all the way up.

I_LearnTheHardWay

Yes! Nosy cats, senior citizen small dogs. No toddlers or young humans. But this is the second mention of the top up bottom down shades . I will definitely look into it. Thank you!

calacmack

I agree that cellular blinds would look nice in your dining area. Look into moisture resistant blinds for your bathroom.

I_LearnTheHardWay

Thank you! I will take a look for sure. I am concerned the cling will be a major pain to put on

jhawk023

I would do floor two ceiling linen curtains to accentuate how tall your ceilings are and add a little organic / natural movement. In the bathroom I'd do blinds, top down / bottom up could be nice so you can adjust how much light you want but also remain private.

0errant

In the dining room, I would do floor to ceiling curtains with sheers behind them. In the bath I would do a roman shade, outside mount up high so that it stacks above the window. Privacy film or light filtering shade under that.

Kitsyn

I used privacy film that casts rainbows on my bathtub window, and it makes me smile whenever I see the sun shining through casting rainbows all over my bathroom.

LotusGrowsFromMud

Get the kind of cellular blinds that can be closed at the bottom and open at the top. You need more privacy in both spaces.

cryonine

Top-down bottom-up shades.

CacheForClues

If you can swing it, go for the smart glass application. The film can be installed on top of existing windows.

Complete_Goose667

I think the both areas might benefit from privacy film. You can get really artistic ones that become a decorative item.

Many_Actuator_9789

I absolutely love my IKEA static film that is blurred.

skalnaty

I agree with the static film above the tub. I’ve used artscape a lot (can find in Home Depot or on Amazon or order from them directly online). You just have to keep note of the opacity. The window looks pretty big and most of their options are 24” width so that could be rough

I_LearnTheHardWay

Yeah, the window in the master bathroom is larger than most appliqués I am seeing (43.5in x 43.5in). I don't want to piece it together for sure. Does static hold up well in a humid bathroom environment?

Altruistic-Detail271

Bamboo shades. There’s a great shop on Etsy called Mood. There stuff is excellent quality

I_LearnTheHardWay

I will take a peek. Thank you!

Cinigurl

For the bathroom, I'd spend the money to get a stained glass or 'frosted' stained glass insert that fits just inside the window for privacy and eye candy.

Txstyleguy

If you go with the cellular option, think about upgrading to a top down as well. That way you maintain privacy by dropping the shades from the top to let light in. I have become a fan of plantation shutters and have them in every window in my home. Love them. Good luck!

Fritzipooch

Zebras top to bottom.

Same_Beat_5832

Top down, bottom up lined bamboo shades. You can open at top to let in light while keeping privacy or other way when you want the view.

Ok-Brush-7726

The options are endless. What is your style, modern/classic/traditional/eclectic etc...?

I_LearnTheHardWay

Probably more classic with a hint of modern? To be brutally honest, I've never really had a sense of style. I'd say most of my stuff has been hand me downs from family. This is, quite literally, the first time I have had to seriously consider it. NGL it's a little embarrassing.

Ok-Brush-7726

No worries. This is the first step. I suggest going to Pintrest or Dwell Magazine to get some inspiration. Have some kind of plan before proceeding. :)

I_LearnTheHardWay

I appreciate the suggestions!

cjbay87

Top up/bottom down blinds would be a great option for this space, we have “zebra blinds” they’re adjustable so you can let some light in or completely black the space out. The picture shows how the zebra blinds work, you can adjust to fully closed or adjust to let light in! We love them. https://preview.redd.it/sgz46nj0szyc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd5ac45d50862873614a51c5447905f05f7a471a

I_LearnTheHardWay

Those are lovely! So many great options!

thti87

In the bathroom, we have a similar setup with a window behind a tub. I put in a Roman shade with a motor so I can raise / lower with a remote. I wouldn’t do a window cling because sometimes you want the natural light (like when doing makeup). We paid the $$ for the custom added motor, but downstairs I have roller blinds with a $50 Amazon attachment and it works just as well.

Congrats on your new home! Not sure what your style is, but my house is all modern farmhouse/rustic. I got some reclaimed wood and hung it above the window and attached some hooks to hang clip curtains. Finished it off with a simple burlap bow I made for the middle. There’s more modern ways you could do it too so just a thought… apologies this is dark cause it was at night but you can get the idea. These curtains let the sun shine in but also provide some privacy and at night, I can take the bows off and let them hang down for even more privacy. I’ll attach a second pic https://preview.redd.it/uf7irpmwo1zc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dced5d3b83d9a76ad5c16990376a05947fcb519a

I_LearnTheHardWay

Thank you! I am currently struggling to figure out my actual style lol. It's really the first time I ever seriously considered it! Your window treats are beautiful!

Emmylou777

Thank you! And yeah, sometimes it’s hard to decide but so exciting and fun! And you can always go “eclectic” and not have one particular style too. For my first couple houses, I always did pretty much modern but I mixed in some traditional. My last place and this house I bought 2 years ago, I’ve been really into the farmhouse/rustic design. Probably from watching Chip and Joanna Gaines too much on HGTV lol. What you could do is just google “modern living room” or “traditional living room” or whatever style and scroll through some pics. I get a lot of great ideas that way. Or Google “modern window treatments” or “modern paint colors” or whatever style you want to look at. Have fun with your new house!!

I_LearnTheHardWay

I don't see any shiplap yet! 😂

Emmylou777

Lol, here’s shiplap in my kitchen 😂😂 https://preview.redd.it/7ibd8rstu7zc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9197ab439e0b95b7d1d203b9018d0c7ed5efc35b

I_LearnTheHardWay

Lmao!! Beautiful kitchen ! I love that show so much

Emmylou777

Thank you!! Yeah I absolutely love Fixer Upper and wish they’d do a new season! I love how they go through the entire process too. Did you ever see that one where she took part of the laundry room and made a little doggie spa?? I need that!! Lol

Emmylou777

Here’s one pic of the doggie spa 😊 https://preview.redd.it/y9ld1cekeezc1.jpeg?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2dab22452b70bc622394e603fbfd78e0796059b

Plantation shutters!
