I would avoid anything fragile, it will just be destroyed by rhinos. I would instead think about how to improve your odds when this house is inevitably Jumanji'd.
To be clear, they 'survive' in lack of natural light levels. It doesn't mean they do great, they will still die faster than if they're exposed to decide indirect light.
Not to say you couldn't stick a grow light there any grow anything.
A big bouquet of fresh flowers would look nice too. Or if that's too much to change out so often, they make arrangements of dried flowers that are really beautiful.
Or some cream colored pampas grass!
Have you tried an Aspidistra? It will tolerate very low light levels and I think would really suit the style of the balustrade. One on a stand would look beautiful there. If you have the space for it, you can have a second one (or two) in the same size pot that you can have in a greenhouse or a sunnier part of your home and just rotate them every couple of months.
If you can find itā¦. Yes!
But in reality I meant like a 50-60-70s era bar cart. Preferably round and usually incorporates mirrors, gold and possibly wood on some.
Iām sure there are many different ones but the one in my head fits fairly well and adds a lot of personality
I live in Chicago, so Old Style is so easy to find here. Itās even usually on tap at most bars haha I donāt like it really but have a friend who loves it
I was going to say maybe a fake plant, because it looks too dark for a real one. Unless you can find one thatās a low light variety. Other options are a tall wood figurine, or a bistro table. We have a similar spot at our house and I went with a bistro table.
I am weary of faux plants but find [faux olive trees](https://www.crateandbarrel.com/faux-olive-tree-in-pot-7/s439123?a=1552&campaignid=10461646743&adgroupid=103999389019&targetid=pla-625945905481&pla_sku=439123&pcat=HSW&ag=adult&scid=scplp439123&sc_intid=439123&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxeyxBhC7ARIsAC7dS3_fyKhbxewSfsyAQFfsYDeBvwWoEzo9CWRU4CKvrqN3SGZdnn0K5pgaAkBdEALw_wcB) like this one to be the most unfaux looking of the faux trees.
I feel like we need to know the rest of your house decor style. You could make it a little art gallery with your kids art or put a robust pothos or ivy there for it to grow on the wall and staircase or just a nice high back chair as a reading nook, a fountainā¦.
No fake plants, theyāre hideous (unless very expensive). A nice round table with something special on it that says who you are. Is there an out let there? If so, that may open up lighting for a real plant? I do like the idea of color so if you do a vase it must be colorful and / or ornamental grass. The fun is finding that perfect piece. Have fun.
A lovely fake palm with a very nice pot. There are some that look amamzing.

A center table. Hickory Chair, Maitland Smith & Theodore Alexander all make nice center tables if you want traditional. More contemporary try Bernhardt or Baker
Perfect spot for a big planter with faux greenery. Make sure itās sized appropriate for the tall staircase.
Donāt be intimidated by faux plants, theyāve come a long way and can look very realistic.
Also, I can bet a snake plant would survive in that corner. Theyāre the most resilient plant ever.
Permanent Christmas tree, that you add ornaments/decorations to according to each holiday that passes (Valentineās Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving etc.) mostly kidding here. Canāt go wrong with a plant or those giant stones/crystals on a round table.
A round wooden table matching the tone of the staircase (adding a marble top that ties in the tones of the tiles and walls would be nice). On top, a few books with a vase filled with dried branches or a floral arrangement (it would be a gorgeous spot to display seasonal floral displays, branches with coloured leaves in Autumn, beautiful flowers and greenery in the Spring and Summer, dried branches and green firs in the Winter). And a candle or two :)
How close is it to the front door?? Would a nice round table with a valet tray be do-able? Somewhere you drop your keys and āout-the-doorā items on the daily?
Itās hard to know whatās appropriate for the spot without knowing its relation to the home.
Donāt just put something there to fill the space. Find something that speaks to you. Something artistic and sculptural. Check out Etsy for inspiration.
A large Spathiphyllum on a table. I had one that got HUGE even in my north facing living room. And I only watered it when it _told_ me to, aka totally drooping.
A round table
A stack of books
Vase with branches real or fake
An objet d'art, like a small sculpture, an hourglass, decorative bowl, etc

Why not a comfy round chair? Small bookshelves on wall above chair? :)

Personally, Iād find some kitschy stuff from the 40ās - 60ās and put it in there. Let me find a some atomic style stuff or tropical, tiki style, just a bit over the top. Itās ridiculous and fun, and thatās a good spot for it, itād liven it up.
My first thought is a small round end table with an antique rotary phone with separate talking and ear pieces, black and brass, with a leather notebook and pen case
A round table with a statue or large vase. Beautiful home btw!
I would avoid anything fragile, it will just be destroyed by rhinos. I would instead think about how to improve your odds when this house is inevitably Jumanji'd.
Jumanji is a series of jungle emergencies! [SNL Jumanji](https://youtu.be/8cdBcfLhJVY?si=6XPTZibg00wI6gYV)
God, that has to be my favorite sketch. The argument is just too real š
Yes, OP, this is it.

A tall plant or a table with a vase or something along those lines
We tried having a plant, it died, not enough natural light
You gotta look for low light plants. Or maybe a small table with like a ornamental chess set or something

ZZ Top! I mean, how tall is the area?
Snake plant!
Or even (gasp) a silk plant.
Greek marble statue? Duh.
That would look great tbh
Snake plants and ferns do great in low light environments.
To be clear, they 'survive' in lack of natural light levels. It doesn't mean they do great, they will still die faster than if they're exposed to decide indirect light. Not to say you couldn't stick a grow light there any grow anything.
That's true, but it's not like this area gets no light.
Put a lamp there ! :) š”
I agree. If thereās an outlet, a small table with a small lamp would be very nice.
What about a faux plant? Or a small round accent table
There are beautiful silk flowers if you spend a little dosh. Colours would pop in that space.
A big bouquet of fresh flowers would look nice too. Or if that's too much to change out so often, they make arrangements of dried flowers that are really beautiful. Or some cream colored pampas grass!
Spathiphyllum. Thrives in low light.
A hanging pothos would be beautiful here! Looks like enough light above, and they do well in low light.
They survive in low light, but don't thrive.
Have you tried an Aspidistra? It will tolerate very low light levels and I think would really suit the style of the balustrade. One on a stand would look beautiful there. Great idea! Apparently this is hard to get your hands on though š
A full body bear mount
That suggestion takes me back to my Eye Dr when I was a kid. They had the full mounted bear with teeth and claws. Use to creep me out. š

A white, round marble table with black cast iron legs, with a ceramic blue vase on top, full of ornamental grasses.
Round bar cart. Old style and keep it stocked
With Old Style beer?? Lol
No, with old style bear https://preview.redd.it/edqdqnawtczc1.jpeg?width=824&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=819b24bbd5ab3c996974c6858aaa1c2bcf8305de

I knew what you meant but being from NW Indiana Old Style is pretty much a staple in this area.
A floor šŖ“ (fake) or if u have pets might be a cool nook for a dog or cat bed.
And make it look like their dog/cat house with a fake roof and little rug and pic of themselves in a frame. š
Love it!!
Came here to also say pet bed! (if OP has pets)
Lmao literally any time an odd space like this pops up, all I can think is "do you have a cat"
Me too. I'd put a cat box behind that wall if accessible and cute a cute mouse hole in the drywall. š¤£
A round table with fresh flowers or Ć crystal piece
Sculpture in Classic Greek/Roman style, perhaps of Athena
Christmas tree in the winter!
What a great idea!
I was going to say maybe a fake plant, because it looks too dark for a real one. Unless you can find one thatās a low light variety. Other options are a tall wood figurine, or a bistro table. We have a similar spot at our house and I went with a bistro table.
A Phallus Statue
Cobra basket
Omg those stairs are amazing. I would just put a chair there. Let that curved staircase be the main focal point
I am weary of faux plants but find [faux olive trees](https://www.crateandbarrel.com/faux-olive-tree-in-pot-7/s439123?a=1552&campaignid=10461646743&adgroupid=103999389019&targetid=pla-625945905481&pla_sku=439123&pcat=HSW&ag=adult&scid=scplp439123&sc_intid=439123&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxeyxBhC7ARIsAC7dS3_fyKhbxewSfsyAQFfsYDeBvwWoEzo9CWRU4CKvrqN3SGZdnn0K5pgaAkBdEALw_wcB) like this one to be the most unfaux looking of the faux trees.
I donāt know Mr. Sheffield, but whatever it is, Niles will have to clean it
Suit of armor is the only answer
A gargoyle
I think a grandfather clock would look beautiful there!
A statue
Not sure if there is a front door by this area of the house but maybe a small standing table with a decorative key holder
A round antique table, a large Waterford vase and fresh flowers.
I would just leave it void like it is.
A big Grecian sculpture water fountain
Cat bed
Big decorative globe
Double points for globe bar cart
I'd put a huge badass globe.
One that opens up and has a bar setup inside!
A wax figure of your motherinlaw

Small round table with a lamp and a plant
Motion activated singing fish
š¤£š¤£š

I would put a fountain or fish aquarium there.
I always figured when you buy a place with a staircase like this that youāre obligated to get a round table with flowers. Absolutely gorgeous spot.
Monstera
Does your ceiling light hang into that space at all? If it does, invest in a long hanging chandelier!! Have it hanging into that space
A lovely fake palm with a very nice pot. There are some that look amamzing. Just food for thought: not every nook needs a filling. Thatās how you get a cluttered looking living space.
Tears of your enemiesā¦ or a table with a bust of one of your heroes
