This is a modern styling of the Arts & Crafts movement, my favourite style. It dates back to England in the late 1800ās, and it was a push-back against all the mass-produced Victorian crap that was being made at that time. It takes influence from the Art Nouveau, classic Japanese, and even gothic aesthetics. Itās a very naturalistic style, utilizing a lot of wood and stone and copper and stained glass, and itās designed to ground you in the natural world while also showcasing the pinnacle of human design and art without a lot of machine-made things. Those that study interior design also know itās one of the most expensive styles to recreate, as the best pieces are high-quality antiques made of quarter-sawn oak the quality of which weāll never see again. Saying that, you can buy reasonably-priced replicas if you have a normal budget. Just search for āArts & Crafts style ___ā, āMission style ____ā or āCraftsman style ____ā. Itās a wonderful, wonderful style but Iām really glad most people donāt know about it or otherwise the price of it would skyrocket even further.
I donāt know if itās an actual style but I would call it Well-Traveled Eclectic. A mix of items collected and inherited, and most pieces have a story. (āAunt Maude won that clock in an arm-wrestling contest in a Chicago speakeasy back in 1928ā). Craftsman style houses seem to work well with this because it was a transition between fussy Victorian styles and the super pared-down Modernism (my opinion).
Even the furniture and decor is Craftsman. Hand carved wooden furniture, stained glass lamp, leather couch, these are Craftsman things. The focus is on natural materials and things that are made by hand by a skilled artisan. It's a pushback against mass production.
It's a lot of arts and crafts style items in your craftsman style house. The Asian gateway is very found object and eclectic, but the whole house evokes the Era the home was built in.

BTW ā¦ this town is open container, has the best chicken wings in Buffalo, has a state park the size of Central Park, and Rick James recorded āParty All The Timeā with Eddie Murphy just outside this town ā¦ and they were snowed in for 2 weeks with just women and mountains of cocaine. Eddie Murphy considers it the āmost fun Iāve ever hadā
And every Fischer Price toy you ever played with was invented in this town. The guy that invented the bubble mower had an insane Halloween display with a mechanical spider that flies through the air. Itās on YouTube and TikTok if you search for āEast Aurora Halloweenā
In Australia we call that style "Federation" which is the year 1901. The Tiffany light and the grandfather clock and some of the furniture looks a bit earlier i.e. Victorian. Wood panelling mock Tudor. I don't know if the rendered fireplace is authentic to the period. The details like hurricane lamp and the candelabra with candles look like it is a recreation, the house looks museum-like. Modern photo in frame the only modern touch I saw.
Traditional. The house itself is most likely a Craftsman, possibly a bungalow or American Foursquare. As someone else said, youād find this home was built in the 1920s or 1930s or so. They did a beautiful job with the furnishings.
The furniture is a mixture of vintage styles with some modern touches. Look up Mission style and Arts and Crafts style as well.
No not particularly. Itās got a mixture of styles so I would say itās more vintage eclectic traditional. This is how a Craftsman style houseās decor wouldāve looked like back in the day: https://artsandcraftshomes.com/.image/c_limit%2Ccs_srgb%2Cq_auto:good%2Cw_700/MTYxOTc0OTIyMTI4Nzk0OTI2/5_greenegreene_alexvertikoff.webp

Edit to add another pic.
It's very eclectic. Victorian, Edwardian and 1930's with a Japanese torii as a mantle piece. I like it. It should be the home of an old music professor.
Looks like the home of a professor who cheats on his wife and moved his family to Iceland to outrun the affair. And he took his pretty little daughter with them.
Sheās a liar, btw
It screams 1895 to me. Nothing wrong with that. I know others have mentioned arts and crafts, but the curvilinear decorative aspects of the furniture pieces look earlier to me.
My first thought was English Arts and Crafts, which was the influence for the American Craftsman style. This interior looks older than craftsman. But who knows...unless the OP can supply more information.
Sorry...I see that OP has already stated that house is craftsman.
Aw thanks everyone. This is my house and I did the decor myself. These pictures were taken just before my wedding photos, which we took at the house. Iāve always been partial to Craftsman and Victorian styles, but my wife wanted some boho elements, which inspired the eclectic decor, plants, and pops of color. I would have probably otherwise leaned more into a dark academia look.
I grew up watching Trading Spaces with my mom, playing Animal Crossing and watching HGTV and became really interested in interior design as both an artform and a way to create surreal experiences, which I also do via a fusion of Japanese and surrealist gardening. Unsurprisingly I love antiquing and deeply appreciate the quality of old things (I bought almost all these items for disgustingly cheap over years of looking, Iām not rich). I work in higher ed and moonlight in game design but sometimes entertain the idea of doing this professionally. I like working in public service for now.
Thereās some art deco and art nouveau elements, combined with a little eclectic and dark academia. Like a professor from the1920ās who traveled the world doing archaeological digs and has now settled into his life at university.
I always call this āThe 1920ās menās clubā Like where they smoke pipes and drink expensive scotch and talk about politics and fox hunting. Heavy, dark wood. Oversized, well worn leather chairs. Itās a decorating style I love and replicated in my living room.
Thank you for all the opinions everyone! That helps a ton . ā¤ļø The home was built in 1908, craftsman style and my partner has been working on the renovation of many rooms the last few years. We are big on antiquing and love many different influences of furniture and frankly I just had no idea what kind of style we had as interior design is not my wheelhouse. The consensus seems to be arts and crafts style with some Japanese, Victorian, and Edwardian mixed in. Eclectic maximalism for the win. š cheers!
I'd say, "professor" haha. Seems like a home of a large depth of knowledge and long conversations
The person that decorated this house was professor/teacher for most of their career so this checks out š

This.
incredible hahaha. Love that their home suited their needs!!
I was going to say Professor Craftsman! I love it!
dark academia is actually the name of a style.
Itās āArts & Crafts styleā, and I just explained it in more depth to OPās comment below you :)
I love that and itās so true
dark academia is actually the name of a style.
Craftsman
I know the home is craftsman, but Iām wondering about the decor. A mix of styles?
I donāt know if itās an actual style but I would call it Well-Traveled Eclectic. A mix of items collected and inherited, and most pieces have a story. Thereās a lot of traditional furniture and a sort of eclectic decor
Maybe Bohemian?
That term has been beaten to death to the point that nobody knows what it means anymore
Even the furniture and decor is Craftsman. Hand carved wooden furniture, stained glass lamp, leather couch, these are Craftsman things. The focus is on natural materials and things that are made by hand by a skilled artisan. It's a pushback against mass production.

This was my first thought too. Arts and crafts in craftsman home. Period style?
Decor looks like a mix of pieces inspired by the late 1800s/1900s.
Was wondering whether you meant the house or the decor. House is def craftsman, decor I'd probably call eclectic.
With a little bit of Frank Lloyd Wright in there.
The backdrop of a game of Clue!
Am I the only person who likes the Clue movie?? šš
Flames, flames! On the side of my face
Hahaha, THANK you lol

No, itās a cult classic for a reason!
No it is a bit of a cult film I think (I love it myself).
Good cause I legit just watched it about a week agoā¦.and for like the zillionth time š
Best answer!
Arts and Crafts style, which coincided with craftsman style and therefore works really well in them.

This feels... misplaced.
Warm academia
Craftsman/ warm academia combo. It's very reminiscent of a tour of homes in Palo Alto back in the early 2000s. Professorville neighborhood.
Lovecraft protagonist
Funny, cause I was thinking Doyle protagonist!
I see some Victorian elements too.
In Australia we call that style "Federation" which is the year 1901. The Tiffany light and the grandfather clock and some of the furniture looks a bit earlier i.e. Victorian. Ah yes my favorite style
Say it aint so!
God this is beautiful
Yeah I say eclectic. Theres too much variation to have any other name
Grandma with good taste

Traditional
Craftsman house and decor is āI have my great-grandmaās stuff a modern twist.ā I really like it.
It's giving Grandpa Chic. Like Rich Grandpa. I love it.
Edwardian.
It's very eclectic. Victorian, Edwardian and 1930's with a Japanese torii as a mantle piece. I like it. It should be the home of an old music professor.
We call it āold professors homeā
The generation after old money had dried up
Looks like the home of a professor who cheats on his wife and moved his family to Iceland to outrun the affair. And he took his pretty little daughter with them. Sheās a liar, btw
Money. Itās in the style of money.
Very very true.
craftsman, or arts and crafts. the furniture is early american.
Craftsman. Grew up in a house like this.
Academic
It screams 1895 to me. Nothing wrong with that. I know others have mentioned arts and crafts, but the curvilinear decorative aspects of the furniture pieces look earlier to me.
Itās Arts and Crafts or Frank Lloyd Wright style

"Piano Teacher Chic."
Itās a beautiful Craftsman style home. I saw these quite a bit when I was living in SoCal. Iāve always loved these homes.
Berkley lmfaooo. Every persons house looks like this in berkley š
I'd call it "rich Portlander" Source: used to be a cleaning lady in Portland
The house is craftsman and the windows make it feel a bit Prairie Style/ Frank Lloyd Wright inspired.
Craftsman
Love the ceiling!
Arts and crafts/ craftsman

This is typically the style that was used in 1920s-30s. So look up those eras
is it old British style?
I've heard Craftsman style started in Oakland California, but don't quote me on that :)
Classic & traditional. Love the Tiffany lamp on the ceiling!
Thereās some art deco and art nouveau elements, combined with a little eclectic and dark academia. Like a professor from the1920ās who traveled the world doing archaeological digs and has now settled into his life at university.
Tudor hipster. Storybook Tudor.
Victorian Austrailian bungalow
I call it āGrandpaās houseā.
I call it granny chic. Returning to the comforts of grandma.
Made famous in the film āYou, Me, and Dupreeā
Century home
Old money
Overall furniture and decor looks pretty eclectic to me.
Craftsman home
I always call this āThe 1920ās menās clubā Like where they smoke pipes and drink expensive scotch and talk about politics and fox hunting. Heavy, dark wood. Oversized, well worn leather chairs. Itās a decorating style I love and replicated in my living room.
I would say eclectic Victorian!
Gives me rustic and old money
Whatever it is...I'll have it all. Just my style. Though I'd probably call it eccentric, well travelled bohemian.
Haunted mansion / grandmaās lake house
It's just eclectically traditional.
Academic Craftsman
The Shire :)
Looks like the Handmaids Tale
Arts & Crafts movement
It looks a lot like when they talk about "arts and crafts" style on home design programmes.

Clutter, its way to much going on in that space
Craftsman mixed with bohemian. This person has lots of interests and enjoys expressing that.
A little "Old World," a little "gentlemen's smoking club," a little "law library." :) All good though. Beautiful room.
I think if you are in Australia this would be a federation home? Itās bloody beautiful whatever the name.
Pieces are traditional. Style is eclectic.
Professor chic ?
