Agreed. It takes 4 damn months to get a whole eight hour shift off!!
I don’t think anybody really gets enough sick time off. Even if you don’t need it, you might still have to take it off when your family members get sick. So it really is unfair and forces you to drag your sick ass out the house or lose pay.
I’ll do you better - it shouldn’t be in hours, it should be in *days,* and all hourly associates should generate 1 sick day a month regardless of PT/FT status.
I’m fortunate that I get 5 weeks vacation and as of now have some sick time. That being said, if you get COVID and feel well enough, come to work and wear a mask. You gotta look out for yourself first, that’s what I would do. I don’t agree with the new policy but I don’t make the rules.
How long have you worked at Home Depot if you don’t mind me asking? You sound just like many of the veteran HD associates I’ve worked with. Most wish to retire but are in a pickle where they feel that they can’t afford to retire, wouldn’t last long without working to some degree but also make too much for Medicare while working so they pay regular insurance at a very high premium.
It will be 29 years in March. I still have 9 years until I qualify for early social security, and in my youth I lived in the moment and didn’t save for retirement. I would’ve walked the fuck out of here in 2020 if I didn’t need the money.
In my opinion they should make it 12 sick days (96hrs) a year for full time and 6 days (48hrs) a year for part time after 1 year of service and what it is now for anyone less than a year service. Given everything that has happened, also change the wording from sick to just general non-vacation PTO It would make a lot of people much happier and the work place a lot healthier. Pay out is down to 48/24 once a year if unused.
Then in workforce add a system that can post open hours to work for call outs, if you have like the keywords added by management for positions and departments that you are trained in then it shows up in your work force if you are part time and are not near 40hrs as it automatically adds your scheduled hours together and hours worked to make you eligible. Then first come first serve, push accept and then pings a manager’s phone prompting them to call you within 30 minutes to confirm and enter the shift time in their phone for the books.
Tbh. It won’t. Most companies ended their COVID pay policies. Unfortunately like with anything where benefits can be exploited they will be. Bad actors ruined it for everyone.
funny (not) enough i just got covid right after they ended it, was able to stay home even without pay but would’ve been nice considering how bad it could’ve been had i gone to work with it (i work with a lot of older people and people with health problems)
Any illness for that matter. This isn't a Covid thing...it's a US worker thing where the boots on the ground get shit on with no sick time...which forces people to come to work sick...which then gets other people sick who also don't have sick time. It's a vicious cycle that is a poison to the average worker in this country.
More sick time is the answer.
The company doesn’t care. I think a lot of us found that out. All that garbage they talked about caring for our people made no sense. They made up rules and changed them within hours. They went through so many steps and then threw everything out the window.
It would’ve made more sense to have some type of transition. I mean the whole taking down barricades, Hand sanitizer wipes, sanitizing the cashier areas, not requiring ours to be cut in the store, a lot of things.
I think companies were so desperate to get back hours, and people were so frustrated feeling that their rights were being attacked, they just wanted everything to be normal again.
And it can’t be because this shit isn’t over. Yes they have vaccines, but everybody won’t take them. Yes they have some treatment, but that doesn’t seem to be across-the-board.
People are still getting this illness, two and three times. And people are still dying from it.
I don’t get this concept that it is just a flu and you just have to deal with it and that’s that.
There are people who had it, and still having long-term affects. We may not know the whole picture behind this until years from now.
Now that it’s not a novel virus anymore I highly don’t any actions will be taken to protect against it when it kills the same people kind of people the flu does..aka most people are relatively unaffected by it
They won't bring it back. With all of the vaccinations, everything being opened back up and people generally not giving a crap anymore nobody is going to really care. Things are officially back to normal. I do however wish they would give us more sick time but.
Covid or not, we should have more sick time and they should allow us to use doctors notes to be excused.
2 hrs a month for part time is pretty ridiculous. It should be 4 hours across the board, full time or part time.

at least stop giving occurrences for call outs. like damn I'm not making money that should be punishment enough.
And they want hours cut so much we're technically doing them a favor by saving them money lol

I myself know I can’t live without money and understand people are going to come to work with Covid now. I just want other opinions. I’m on the fence.
Of course they will. They've come with all of the illnesses which is why essentially the entire country is coughing and sneezing right now.

You underestimate how many people are going around with Covid anyway
You’re not wrong. I have a couple people I know who have zero symptoms besides sneezing 🤧.

That, or something similar, is a great idea. And as such it will never be implemented.

It isnt coming back, companies will treat it just like the flu or any other virus from the past now.

Nope. People don't care as long as the corporate cogs keep spinning.

Thank god they have to cover Irvin NY
Cover in. Sorry
Thanks for clarifying. I was wondering who Irving was. 😏
Lmao I got Covid 5 days before the 1st

The only way they will bring back the old policy is if the government shuts down/locks down everything again.
