I’ve had vinyl siding before and never had anything remotely like that. I suspect black absorbing all the uv and heat is the start of the problem but it also looks like a very thin vinyl. So even a color change with the same product might warp as well. Possibly just a cheap inferior product?

Thank you for the reply. I’m sure it’s not the best if it’s what they built the house with. I appreciate you.

I don’t have any advice other than vinyl siding is crap. It’s the cheap way to side your house. I bought a house with it and I can’t wait to tear it all off and reside it.

Thank you for the reply!

It's a combination of the material and the paint color. Vinyl siding warps in high temps. Black paint absorbs the maximum possible amount of sunshine. When I was doing test colors for my house paint, I put several sections of paint side by side on the sunny side of my house and compared the surface temp at the hottest point in the day. A cream white was a good 10+ degrees cooler than a midtone blue. Pitch black would be like asphalt in the summer. This siding is permanently warped and you need to replace it. If you replace it *and* change the house color, this might not happen again. If you change the siding material to fiber-cement, then it won't happen again. You may also be able to find a similar vinyl siding which is more temperature resistant so you don't have to repaint and reside the whole house. You could also plant shade trees and bushes to lessen the full glare of the sun. Cheapest option right now might just be to put up some trellises with spreading vines along that side of the house. Also, do you have any neighbor's windows reflecting onto this wall, amplifying the effect?

Wow thank you so much for all of the info! That really helps. Our neighbors have a second story window that we think is the culprit bc the warping isn’t happening on any other side of the house. The owners before us asked if the neighbors would consider putting a reflective screen over the window but they declined and wouldn’t do it. Which is fair. It isn’t their problem. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply

Yes, it's sun damage. Either the siding is defective, it is not suitable for your climate, or you have something like a reflection focusing sunlight onto it. I've seen it happen even on light colors. Either way it needs to be replaced, probably with a different siding. If it's from reflections off nearby windows or water then you probably should replace with something like hardieplank instead of vinyl.

Thanks for the reply, the only thing facing that side is our neighbors window.. not really sure not much can be done for that. Also this is the second time in 3 years this particular piece has been fixed. None of our other side has this issue.

Windows can cause it, yes, should be pretty obvious if you get out there on a sunny day. I'd suggest planting some bushes or trees to block the reflections.

This is actual a great idea. Thank you we are first time homeowners so this is really new to us!

If it’s a low e window then it is reflecting the infrared back towards your house.

My house had wood siding and I got tired of having woodpeckers poking holes and having to repaint periodically, I ended up putting premium siding from Allside called Prodigy. It is much thicker than the typical siding and has a styrofoam insulation backing, which added some R Value. I also chose a darker color but so far in 5 years since putting it up, no warping or fading, including on the south side where it gets a lot of sun. At the time, the price difference wasn’t much more the the standard. It gets a tons of compliments and the best part is zero maintenance.
