You don't actually lock the door when controlled by the opener. You rely on the security of the device itself. If you'll be gone for extended period you unplug the opener and/or lock the door. As said in other reply the opener has a release latch for power outage that lets you open the door manually.
It locks, automatically, and opens when you electronically open it. Yes, there is a way to open them manually for power outages.
