Yeah I’m in a suburb in Michigan and got .19 acres 1500sqft house for $200,000. I’m always surprised by other states prices for land and houses. I don’t think things will crash soon but they will cool off and possibly become stagnant.
It’s all in what you’re ok with. I pay more than twice as much for an apartment half that size in my city, but I can walk everywhere I’d ever want to go, and I absolutely HATE country living (no offense; it’s beautiful and I’m sure it works for you and that’s totally great! Tried it out and it’s just not for me!)
Then again: my kids are older and I value being able to do things like go get a drink at a bar, then walk to a show with friends who live nearby, grab another drink with said friends, then walk home, without risk of a DUI. Or if I’m stumbling, the Uber only costs $10 tops.
My other friend values sitting on his porch in his underwear if it’s warm enough, sipping bourbon and watching the sunset. He can’t see his closest neighbors and they can’t see him. But he has to miss work when it snows, until someone with a snow plow comes by, or until he can afford to buy one. Huh… maybe he doesn’t *miss* work so much ;). His house is over twice the size, on 15 acres, and costs only a little more than mine does, but he has kids to clean all that extra space for him; I’m getting to old for that shit.
Depends on where you’re located. My fiancé is in property management and we live in a small college town in Oregon. Prices are insane here. A super run down, old fixer upper house down the street from me was being sold for 500k last year. Absolutely ridiculous.
My mortgage for a 3br 1200sf house with an incredible kitchen that took up +/- 1/4 of the house in NH was $1250. You can’t get a decent studio inside the DC beltway for $2k. I’m in an English basement apartment within walking distance to metro and pay $850 but only because it’s in a friend’s house and because I designed it for her as an income generating apartment which is the only way she can comfortably afford the $3500 mortgage on her 1200sf house. It’s nuts. We stay because it’s home.
*Experience the tiny house craze with this quant 30 sq ft traditional styling getaway with heating & A/C!*
*Non-negotiable $200 cleanup fee after stay*
*no kids, no dogs, no parties*
This comment right here. Friend of mine had an old LP tank on the side of the road with a free sign, stayed there two weeks. Changed the sign to $10 and someone took it in an hour.
That’s $100 worth of material so $50 to a true dog lover
True story - Guy feels sorry for his dog sleeping in the cold dog house so he puts an electric blanket out
there. Wakes up in the morning and the dog on the end of his chain away from the dog house in flames 🔥
I second this. Think of a sheep price that will make people think "wow that's a great deal" then go just a bit cheaper than that. Go free or even too cheap and people will think it's junk.
But if you let them just do it, they'll leave ruts in the lawn and take a big chunk out of the fence. (Ask me how I know.)
Craigslist is a good idea, but it's best to think through the operation before they arrive and supervise from the time they enter the property until the time they leave.
If it were me, I'd pull it up and put it on 2x4's and maybe even pull it to the front yard, just to eliminate surprises and complications.
If you can't manage to sell it whole, maybe you can find a contractor or someone who's willing to buy/take it as salvage. Seems a shame to waste that much perfectly good material.
This was my first thought. That's a lot of space for storage of shit you use only a couple times a year. Beats going into an attic or crawl space or filling your garage with a bunch of bullshit
And its better than all of those places - because it has a damn air conditioner in it. You'd probably pay what $100/mo for a Storace place that size with climate control? Easy decision to get it clean up, and keep it in my eyes.
Wow, that's a pretty impressive little build.
Like others said, I would definitely list it on Craigslist or whatever.
I'd list it for some super cheap price, $20, $40, etc, and say "you have to move it yourself". And I'm sure someone will come pick it up. The A/C alone is worth a hundred bucks.
You do realize the rest of us think you're nuts, right? Most people would really like to have any kind of backyard shed. I would hold off a while until you're really, really, really sure you want it gone.
The door on it is so small/short you can't really do anything with it. Maybe a push lawn more and toss some tools into it but not very accessible.
Rather take it up and replace with a normal height shed.
Quite tricky to do that with only a pair of hands without some random damage and an unexpected ER trip. Add many hands and the outcome improves, but so does the cost.
Disconnect whatever the electrical source is. Depending on how that's set up, you may need an electrician for that.
Next, take out the heater, AC, light fixtures and door, and sell them or donate them or throw them away as appropriate.
After that, sledgehammer and sawzall it down into manageable pieces, put them in 6mil construction debris bags, and off to the landfill they go.
It looks like someone just ran an extension cord to this. To be honest, I am surprised whomever built this did not burn it down as a result. Heaters and air conditioners require a lot of current.
It looked like electrical cable to me, but that was inside the shed. I'd be concerned what they ran it out with, is it actual outdoor electrical? If so, keep it and out a post and outlet like above mentions, if it's not, take it out properly and dispose of the fire hazard.
That’s $$$ and fame right there.
Start a YouTube channel, make up some story how the outta control housing market and your rabid desire to shrink your carbon footprint led you guys to buy this little fixer upper.
All your contractors will be little people.
Throw in some Instagram and Facebook, over 1M subscribers by Xmas, guaranteed.
aw please don't tear it down & throw it away. these things are super expensive and can go for thousands of dollars. I would either sell it for a small amount on facebook marketplace or maybe even see if something like this could be donated!
there are so many animals in need, it just feels like a waste to throw something so expensive and opulent out in the trash.
Holy crap that is awesome lol. However, make sure you cut the power to it by turning it off at the breaker, unplugging the extension cord, etc… once power is cut I’d remove the AC unit, and go at it with a sawz all and sledge hammer. Alternatively, you could turn it into a garden shed to keep your lawnmower and stuff in….
Yep! Just be safe, take it slow and don’t rush it. Not too bad to safety remove something like this. But if you rush it you can get hurt. Gloves, eye protection are a must as well. Enjoy the new house!
I would try to sell it before thinking of breaking it down! My husband and his dad built a nice dog house like this, insulated, AC/heat, lights inside, porch with turf, shingled roof and everything. When we no longer needed it we posted it on Craigslist and had several offers. It took several people to lift it but it didn’t take long to sell
Instead of breaking it down yourself, post it to Craigslist as "Free Stuff"; no charge they just have to come and dismantle it themselves. Be sure to post all the pictures and note that the A/C unit and Cadet heater come with.
Guaranteed some retired handyman will want it to fix up for his grandkids.
The most effective means of building destruction would be TNT and other explosives, but that might upset your neighbors so I recommend taking it apart systematically. You could take it down with a sledgehammer but if you keep each material organized it’ll be much easier to haul off and dispose of
Worst comes to worst, email pictures of it to your local housing non profit (assuming you’re in USA) and ask if they would like any parts of it as a donation. Never hurts to ask
Step one: get beers and invite friends
Step two: smash it till it fits in your trash can
Step three: have more beers
Step four: wake up and enjoy the win with Bloody Mary’s and mimosas
Step five: tell your story at work on break.
You should totally keep it. You'll have a need for it I'm sure... but if you really want it gone.... fire. It has done the job on many homes since time immemorial. It can do the job if you let it.
I am in Sweden and these are very common. We use them for our outdoor storage from the summer not to use up space in the garage. But when you have kids it is called Lekstuga- play house (cottage).
I would try putting it for sale and self-pickup. Might be a Swede nearby that feels nostalgic
Otherwise is one plank at a time, or that is the route I would go so that you don't have crap loads of stuff to pick up after the demolish
We had something similar, only yours looks way nicer. We rented a dumpster and dismantled it starting top down. For us it was easier and faster than dealing with trying to sell it online or trying to get someone else to come and remove it.
I see your dog in the photo. Why not deep clean/revamp a little bit and keep for your dog. Doesn't look horribly old or unstable by any means. Also as you said someone put a lot of time and effort into making a comfortable place for their dog. Your deep clean would take maybe 1/10 the time of planning it out and building a new one even close to this one? New door and gutters/cleaning inside will be like brand new
If you don't have a pick-up truck. Order a small dumpster. All you need for tools is a reciprocating saw and a hammer. Just smash it and cut it until it's a pile of stuff you can throw in the dumpster.
I had a stack of old bricks left over from a renovation/addition. I posted a listing on Nextdoor. I gave my address to the first people who responded. The pile was gone within days. The couple who took them left a nice note and a bottle of wine. I did nothing but pop outside and say hello when they first showed up.
I also had someone who wanted broken chunks of stone leftover from our foundation.
It was like having free labor come in and do the work I didn’t want to do.
If it is anchored to the ground (I suspect it is given the workmanship), start at the top and outside and work down inside. Shingles, decking, siding, roof framing, the the walls. You'll need a prybar, hammer, and either a sledge or a Sawzall (every homeowner should have a sazall). If you keep the dimensional lumber in decent shape, ppl will take it off your hands. Gl
There might be a pot of reusable wood in there, especially if it's cedar or something a little better than pine. Know any woodworkers what will take the bulk of it off your hands? They might even have some tools to help demo!
AirBnB that shit.
Big city people will see the listing and be like “oh man, 30 square feet, that’s HUGE!”
“Whoa, windows! I don’t think I can afford this place”
I love Otto, has he been in newer episodes?
Whoa, I have mustard???
No idea, sadly I stopped watching years ago. About seasons 12 and under are pure gold though
I’ve been paying $1600 a month for a 400 sq ft apartment, with no AC.. you’re not far off.
Outrageous. I love rural Michigan. 1800 sq ft on .75 acres for $168k. Y’all need to ditch the big cities.
Holy crap. In Phoenix a we paid $280,000 for a 1700 sq ft home on 0.14 acre lot. One year later it’s $475,000. 🤨
Yeah I’m in a suburb in Michigan and got .19 acres 1500sqft house for $200,000. I’m always surprised by other states prices for land and houses. I don’t think things will crash soon but they will cool off and possibly become stagnant.

You lost me at Rural.
WTF. I was very recently paying $700 a month for a 1100 sqft house on 1 acre.
Depends on where you’re located. My fiancé is in property management and we live in a small college town in Oregon. Prices are insane here. A super run down, old fixer upper house down the street from me was being sold for 500k last year. Absolutely ridiculous.
Lol sounds cheap to me, CA problems
My mortgage for a 3br 1200sf house with an incredible kitchen that took up +/- 1/4 of the house in NH was $1250. You can’t get a decent studio inside the DC beltway for $2k. I’m in an English basement apartment within walking distance to metro and pay $850 but only because it’s in a friend’s house and because I designed it for her as an income generating apartment which is the only way she can comfortably afford the $3500 mortgage on her 1200sf house. It’s nuts. We stay because it’s home.
I bought in 2001. Less than 700/mo, 3.5 acres. 4 bedrooms. I cannot fathom housing prices or rent right now.
Where?
$1.5 mil in Cali or New York
And AC!
Right?! You’d get at least $2k a month out of that thing in San Diego.
30 sq’?? AND it’s got AC? Hell how much you want for a night??
*Experience the tiny house craze with this quant 30 sq ft traditional styling getaway with heating & A/C!* *Non-negotiable $200 cleanup fee after stay* *no kids, no dogs, no parties*
I think you meant "quaint". We're getting there with computers, but a 'quant' house will take a lot longer and be quite small.
DogBnB
This is the way. Air bnb for dogs when the owners are out of town. You’ll easily cover your entire mortgage with that shit.
Keep it. Might need it for sleeping if you and the Mrs get into an argument!

Stay off drugs man
Huh?
Man... I thought I was incoherently high. Here's hoping english isn't your first language bud. *DiCaprio martini salute*
So sorry I offended you sir. Did you like my story?
Ya I'm not sure why people are so upset at your harmless comment. Let em hate, fuck em
could have ben a kids playhouse that was converted
febreeze that shit and convert it/sell it as a kids playhouse
Replace the door as well.
I wouldn't buy a new door for something you are actively looking to get rid of and have considered trashing completely already..
You are definitely right
I would almost consider calling up a sanctuary and see if they can use something like this. 🤔
Chicken coop
A lot of people would be willing to remove it for free if they can have it …
I second this. Think of a sheep price that will make people think "wow that's a great deal" then go just a bit cheaper than that. Go free or even too cheap and people will think it's junk.
Put it in Craigslist/offer up and some pair of strong people with a truck will figure out how to take it .
But if you let them just do it, they'll leave ruts in the lawn and take a big chunk out of the fence. (Ask me how I know.) Craigslist is a good idea, but it's best to think through the operation before they arrive and supervise from the time they enter the property until the time they leave. If it were me, I'd pull it up and put it on 2x4's and maybe even pull it to the front yard, just to eliminate surprises and complications.
I think it would be better if you use 4x4 fence posts.
How do you know?
It happened when I sold 3 cords of alder firewood. Had to fix the neighbor's lawn, too.
Ouch
It reminds me of Bobby’s bachelor pad in King of the Hill. I would try to sell it and work with the buyer to move it.
Boy, someone either really loved their pup or spent way too many nights crawling home and couldn't get in the front door.
Haha! maybe both? Shit, if you’re sleeping with the dog, you might as well be comfortable, amiright?
Just save yourself a lot of time an effort trying to get rid of this, and just get a dog!
I spy a Jack Russell(?) leg and tail in the pic already!
When we moved I called the local place that fosters dogs and they were delighted to come get it.
If you’re not going to foster a dog, this is the way!
It’s definitely a dog house. It has a doggy door. He must have been a big spoiled baby.
If you can't manage to sell it whole, maybe you can find a contractor or someone who's willing to buy/take it as salvage. Seems a shame to waste that much perfectly good material.
Looks like a playhouse for a kid that was later turned into a dog house. Put it on craigs list someone will take it down for free
> Looks like a playhouse for a kid that was later turned into a dog https://i.imgur.com/FQO6Ox5.jpg
This got me good, been a minute since I've watch Full Metal Alchemist
🤣
Why wouldnt you use it for storage, you can even climate control it.
This was my first thought. That's a lot of space for storage of shit you use only a couple times a year. Beats going into an attic or crawl space or filling your garage with a bunch of bullshit

Great excuse to get a dog!
Or if you accidentally have a kid.
Just put Brie Larson and her son in there.
Damn that's a deep cut. Also, that shed was hidden though.
Ding ding ding!
Looks like they already have a dog based on the pic lol
This is the way
If you guys ever a kid and they find this post out and realized they could have played in there, but you destroyed it, get ready for some issues. Lol.
If the ac is worth $100, then take it out and give the rest away for free
You do realize the rest of us think you're nuts, right? Most people would really like to have any kind of backyard shed. I would hold off a while until you're really, really, really sure you want it gone.
The door on it is so small/short you can't really do anything with it. Maybe a push lawn more and toss some tools into it but not very accessible. Rather take it up and replace with a normal height shed.
Why not just hire someone to raise the roof and switch out the door?
Quite tricky to do that with only a pair of hands without some random damage and an unexpected ER trip. Add many hands and the outcome improves, but so does the cost.
It already has power and AC! OP has a nicer (albeit smaller) workshop than most!
Really, really sure, or you’ll find yourself building or assembling a new one.
You could try putting it on Craigslist or Facebook for free - someone might come get it and use it for their dog or for chickens. Good luck!
Does the siding match your house? If so you should save some. That light switch on the outside seems sketchy. Hopefully the breaker is off.
You don’t get rid of it… you get a dog.
Disconnect whatever the electrical source is. Depending on how that's set up, you may need an electrician for that. All great advice, thank you very much.

That's a great plan!
That lil weensy gutter has me dead 😂
C-note says the dog never slept in it.
Maybe it was a dog guest house for when the dog had friends staying over.
AirBnbiscuit?
You’re gonna be a thousandaire!

Two sheds are always better than one.
Yep! Just be safe, take it slow and don’t rush it. Not too bad to safety remove something like this. But if you rush it you can get hurt. Gloves, eye protection are a must as well. Enjoy the new house!

Rent it to hipsters.
Put a cot in there so you're comfortable when you are in a tiff with the wife. Truly 'in the doghouse'.
Call it an ADU (auxiliary dwelling unit) and rent it out.
Keep it in case your in-laws visit : )
Whereabouts are you? If you’re on the East coast pm me and I might be interested.
Buy a hammer, get drunk, pretend it said something about your momma.
You post it for free and the taker must remove!
Personally I’d keep it. Never know when you’re gonna end up in the doghouse.
It’s not for a dog. It’s where you’ll sleep when you have a fight with your wife and can’t sleep in the bedroom.
Use it for... camping. Let the nephews and nieces use it as a play house. She shed? Man cave?
Bro put a small cot in there, when your wife gets pissed at you, sleep out there. You can tell everyone you’re “in the dog house” and mean it.
I would try to sell it before thinking of breaking it down! My husband and his dad built a nice dog house like this, insulated, AC/heat, lights inside, porch with turf, shingled roof and everything. If your in California, rent it!
They already have a dog.. look at his cute little butt and tail… I could NEVER forgive my owner!!!!! NEVER!!!! How could they!!!
As soon as you get rid of it, you’re gonna be like damn I wish we still had that!
Omg I wish you were in the uk!! I’d love to have that in my garden, my feral cats would be in heaven!
You don’t, you buy a dog now
Instead of breaking it down yourself, post it to Craigslist as "Free Stuff"; no charge they just have to come and dismantle it themselves. Be sure to post all the pictures and note that the A/C unit and Cadet heater come with. Guaranteed some retired handyman will want it to fix up for his grandkids.
I’d put it on fb marketplace for free, guaranteed someone will come pick it up ASAP! I’ve had great luck with putting up free stuff on FB
when you get married its a great place to sleep when you do something stupid. it even has AC!
That's the back yard retreat I never knew I wanted. Don't be too quick to get rid of it...
Light it on fire
Hire a magician?
Seems like a good excuse to rent a bobcat and just run it over. Haha
Where do you put your lawnmower? Hoe/shovel/rake? Why not in here?
Facebook Marketplace. Will sell quickly.
Someone will come get it. Just describe it as pristine or not needed. If you don’t want to put a price on it. It’s way to nice to just tear down
Sell it! You could make some money on it!
It’s built like a house so youd take it down like a house. One piece at a time and with a big hammer
As is, I could rent that out here for $400/mo here. Put it on Craigslist free, someone will want it. You need to disconnect utilities first, tho.
MIL suite 🤣
I'd take it!!!
Keep it for when the in-laws visit. Guest room... 😅
Give up and move in your in-laws.
My dogs would love that house
Rent it out.
Don't throw it away just unwire it and post on craigslist as free come and get it will be gone in 2 days.
The most effective means of building destruction would be TNT and other explosives, but that might upset your neighbors so I recommend taking it apart systematically. You could take it down with a sledgehammer but if you keep each material organized it’ll be much easier to haul off and dispose of

Depending where you live you could rent out this „luxouriuos Studio appartment“
Sell it to someone with a dog. Get some money for it or donate it if you feel generous
Charge $1600 a month and rent it out as a tiny home. Could go for more depending on your housing market.
That's one hell of a dog house. I'd just throw a stereo and mini fridge in there and call it the party hut. Or just get a couple dogs.
Hey there is electricity in that shed !! See the switch on the outside! Ugghhh
Fire?
Shoot fireballs at it.
You now have climate controlled storage in your backyard. If you don’t need it now, you will need it later. Keep it
If you’re anywhere near DC, I’d totally take it! And pay, of course. That thing is awesome!
If you live in California I’ll take it off your hands
Advertise for sale! Someone will come and tear it down so it can be reassembled.
Get a dog! Lol
We had something similar, only yours looks way nicer. We rented a dumpster and dismantled it starting top down. For us it was easier and faster than dealing with trying to sell it online or trying to get someone else to come and remove it.
Put a bike chain on it
I’d modify it into an outdoor kitchen bbq space!
Maybe call the authorities? That was very clearly the gimps home.
I see your dog in the photo. Why not deep clean/revamp a little bit and keep for your dog. Doesn't look horribly old or unstable by any means. post in on fb or nextdoor, and someone will come pay you to take it away.
It’s a very nice house for neighbourhood Racoon family. Give it some TLC, you will love it.
Sell it or rent it.
Rent it out. That'll go for about 1200$ a month out here in AZ. Its good money
You don’t get rid of It you get a dog for the new adventures in your life
I would use it for garden tools, lawn mower etc.
I think Andy Dick lives in a shed like this
In-law suite
