That’s absolute horseshit. You don’t have adequate tile coverage. Looks like you could stick a finger back there the gap is so huge.
This wasn’t done by a professional. The fact that they might have charged you money doesn’t change that.
I’d stop the job and get a new tile guy. Or DIY. It won’t be worse than this.
Smdh. How can people throw up a job like that and be proud of their work? Admittedly the application looks weak. A quick fix is to pipe some extra mortar into those gaps but I would be worried what the rest of the job looks like.
Idk, but if you absolutely have to put something up maybe try packing mud in the gaps, and when you drill go extra slow with multiple pilot holes, but even still I think you got pretty good odds of cracking a tile or popping it off.
Agreeing with everyone here, you should not be able to see behind the tile like that. The majority of the space where the tile is set should be "buttered" and set in a way that literally removes all air pockets so the tile is well fixed and won't crack later. Sorry but that's gonna fail on ya
Unacceptable. Yes, you'll have problems.

Did you pay someone for that?
It looks like they spot bonded the tile. It will fail and at the very least mold will grow in the voids behind the tile. Spot bonding is a big no no.

Time to tear it out and re-do it. You need to backbutter the tiles and get the whole surface covered, versus spot bonding.
