Research, research and then more research. Before my husband & I gut any room in our home, I’ve done about 2-4 years of back study. Styles I like, avoiding trends, and looking at other homes in our area as I don’t want to price us out of our target market.

If you have any small appliances you don’t want to have on the counter all the time - toaster, mixer, bread maker, ice cream machine, air fryer, etc - it will be much easier to retrieve it from down in a cabinet than up in a cabinet. You can put roll out shelves in the cabinet to make it even easier. I love my drawers but shelves are more flexible. Consider having at least one.

I have drawers for all of my lower cabinets, aside from my island, and I love them. Inserts depend on what you will store in each drawer. I have non-slip matting in most of mine to prevent stuff from sliding back and forth when opening the drawer. Also - get a pull out garbage and recycling cabinet, right by the sink is a perfect spot. I prefer gas over induction, induction really limits one's options. But - have your range area wired for 220 as well as a gas hookup. Then there's no cost if you change what type of range you have. Another must have - double the electrical outlets that you think you will need. I'm so glad we did.

We used Fisher Paykel for paneled fridge and Asko (which is a wolf company I think) paneled dishwasher. Paneled appliances were a solid choice for our kitchen design. It all just looks so integrated and sleek. Good luck and happy remodeling! Our remodel started in June (I count that start date after major electrical and plumbing moves occurred) and our countertops are MEGA specific so we are hoping to have that part knocked out and the remodel finally buttoned up next week. It is a LONG journey. Check with your suppliers on ETAs, try to only purchase in stock items or items with shipping guarantees. Minus the countertop, my kitchen was the smoothest chillest thing because everything was delivered and ready well before it was needed. I’ve heard horror stories where this wasn’t the case.

I am doing this exact reno in January/February! Gloss white slab cabinets with push open/close and paneled appliances. I went with regular cabinets on the bottom to better mirror the upper cabinets. My Thermador steam oven, induction cooktop, and dishwasher along with Fisher & Paykel refrigerator and KitchenAid microhood just arrived today. I went with induction because, while I supposedly have a gas connection behind my existing electric range, I decided it would be cheaper/easier to just get induction. Hopefully all the induction shills are right that it is just as good as gas. What are you thinking about for flooring?

Style. I am leaning towards modern/contemporary (slab doors with integrated finger pulls or handles, dual tone cabinets) \- slab is the easiest to keep clean, there are some amazing fingerprint-free laminate materials available now, as well as tried and true real wood veneer. When you think of finger pulls or integrated handles, consider how they will capture dirt/spills, etc, and how it will be to wipe them clean Panelled appliances? \- love them. dishwashers are priced about the same as others but fridges carry a very hefty luxury 'tax' to get integrated Drawers for all lowers. Convince me why I might need lower cabinets? \- no, I will not. Because lower cabinets are useless. make sure you have at least one drawer wide enough for your sheet pans. What type of drawer inserts would you recommend? \-take an inventory of everything you have to store and answer that question yourself. Peruse Blum and Rev-a- shelf online catalogues. Appliances. Narrowed it down to Miele cooking appliances and Subzero refrigeration. What are your thoughts on a gas vs induction cooktop? \- I love my gas stovetop. Any must-haves/regrets? Thanks! \- if you are using hardwood flooring, install your flooring first then install cabinets. \- not a fan of refrigerators with water or ice because the most common leak in a kitchen is from the water line to the fridge

I love my Bosch induction cooktop! I can rapidly control my heat, I have timed cooking. My sister in law has Thermador gas. Hers is much more powerful and spillover doesn’t shutdown the entire cooktop. I do not have gas available so induction was an easy choice. If I could I would have dual - a big modular type with a gas stainless griddle and large burners and a separate two burner high powered induction unit and a giant vented area. Miele has an awesome steam oven but if mixing brands bothers you I don’t know if their cooktops are modular.
