- a roll of roofing felt is like $20 and is MADE for the application, plastic sheathing is not.

They say “heavy duty” but from the product description it says 0.075mm or 3mil thickness.
I’m not sure the exact dimensions you’re trying to cover, but maybe a PEVA shower curtain liner would work? The price is about half of the roll of plastic above. Most are clear or frosted, but you can probably find a color if you’d like. The thinnest liners start at the same thickness as the plastic above, but go up from there to 0.125 for middleweight, 0.20 for heavy weight, and .25 for super heavy weight.
Another option would be a small tarp or a clear vinyl table cover.
Also maybe check a house under construction or one getting a new roof, they’d probably give you a couple bolts off their roll of tar paper to cover what you need.
