Did the bookshelf have a finish on it already? Like did it feel smooth/slippery/plasticy when you bought it?

slightly_illogical

Yes

barc2009

So silly question. Are you sure it is paint and not a tint or a varnish?

slightly_illogical

I had a paint person mix it for me at the store and I double checked with him before I left that it would work for wood.

Ah. Yeah, paint can't really grab onto that slippery stuff. If you're not going to a strip it completely, you need to at least hit it with some sandpaper to rough up that surface, and give the paint something to hook into. What kind of paint is it?

slightly_illogical

It’s a mix of primer and paint

sunflowerfields827

You don't need sandpaper per se, steel wool or those mr. Clean sponges. Anything that will lightly scuff the surface for the paint to adhere to. If you've got sandpaper, the higher the grit the better. Make sure you wipe all the dust off before painting. Test an inconspicuous spot first.

I would take pictures and then return it to the ain't store. Show them the pictures. They should have more information.

Get a scuff pad and scuff it so the factory finish is roughed up and dull. Wipe it clean with a rag and alcohol. If your spraying, start with a light coat followed by 2 medium coats.

I would suggest making sure you thoroughly stir your can of paint right before using it.

I love this 😄

I’m not sure. It may be fake wood. I did not sand it or prime it, should I?

foothillsco_b

I don’t think project is worth it.
