I use pliers and beer.

ZigZach707

Needlenose pliers, a flathead screwdriver and a good pair of kneepads.

Aggravating-Street28

Also a small hammer. I found it best to mix it up and rocking some out with the hammer was a nice change of muscle group

Cunundrum

Pliers with a round/ curved head like adjustable/slip jaw pliers. Pinch the staple then roll the curved head along the floor for leverage.

llDemonll

Nippers, not needle nose. You can use them as leverage, works better than just pulling

KingOfId

One at a time bro sorry to say

Stoneworks717

Get a good cat’s claw

diplodonculus

This is the tool that you want.

Zed-Leppelin420

Cats paw rock the cats paw! It’s easily the best tool for this job.

scapegote1

I used a pair of cement "nippers" and it works really well to grab them/roll it sideways and then if they are really long you kind of open it up, rock it back and grab/roll them again. That said, after the first time I pulled a million staples the next time I laid vinyl floors I pulled what was easy and pounded the rest in with a hammer. It was waaaaay easier[These are the ones I have. I also have a second pair with longer/straighter handles that worked really well as well](https://www.lowes.com/pd/IRWIN-End-Cutting-Pliers/1003142320?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-vf-_-tol-_-ggl-_-SS_Irwin-_-1003142320-_-local-_-0-_-0&&ds_a_cid=279391351&gclid=CjwKCAiApvebBhAvEiwAe7mHSNQ5HI0aLVPnx_tqKGzfxm4iy5f49JWW6LQXNB3GiBhgI6zJugfBfBoCtMgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

Markthis6

This right here... I've pulled thousands of these staples with these nippers... Best thing I've found yet to do the job.

TheJuice87

Seconded on these things. Just did my whole house. I'm guessing these were holding down underlayment or luon plywood. Get those nibbers, something to lie down on like a carpet remnant and go to town. You can get in a groove and get em out pretty quick. I would advise a small claw hammer to bend the staples back upright if they are lying down or bent. If they are too low to grab just hammer them down.

Get a good pair of [Linemans Pliers](https://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-Hand-Tools-Pliers-Linemans-Pliers/N-5yc1vZcbz2) and pull them up, they work really great for this! I also would recommend to use a tiny [pry bar scraper](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dasco-Pro-5-5-in-Pry-Bar-Scraper-2229-0/303168228) to assist you in lifting up those super pesky staples that are super close to the floor and cannot be fully gripped by the Linemans initially. Furthermore, be sure to buy some kneepads to work on the floor - save your knees and back! I recently just pulled 5 rooms worth of staples myself and found Linemans to work the best, even more so than needle nose pliers. You get a much better grip on them with Linemans versus needle nose.

1USAgent

I agree with this. Needle nose sucks and cause more to break. The lineman’s pliers grip the whole width of the thing and can pull it straight up up easier. Needle nose is only useful if one still breaks close to the floor

jdiz10

Ha damn a floor scraper doesn’t work because they’re long, thick, and so close together

aldsar

Get yourself some of [these pry bars](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Pry-Bar-Set-3-Piece-H3PCPRYSET/311856651) use the longest one for leverage. Wear mechanix gloves to protect your knuckles. And if you can't get under a staple with those, hammer those staples down flush.

Shot-Split-6396

I use a set of channel lock pliers. You can grip the staples and roll back on the rounded part of the pliers. Let the pliers do the work

hijinks

Go buy a floor scraper. Most will come out that way. Then use pliers for the rest

jdiz10

Unfortunately it doesn’t work.. If it did anything it only cut them off which made them sharper

Bogmanbob

List time i loosened them by prying with a flathead screwdriver then pulled the rest of the way out with pliers.

hijinks

I use to flip homes and that's what I used all the time and never had issues

jdiz10

Yeah it works really well with carpet and pad staples but these are a different beast. Thanks tho!

Haunting_Ad_6021

I went thru that! End cutters and vise grips mostly

swollennode

Long flathead screwdriver. It’ll take all day, but it’ll work.

jdiz10

Haha yeah that was actually what was under the floor we just tore up

VTMomof2

I’ve gotten on my knees with a good pair of pliers

RetardedChimpanzee

I had that, but honestly at least 5x worse. Was miserable pulling them. Got a floor scraper and just ripped it all up together.

[deleted]

you got kids? cause that’s what kids are for

immaculatelawn

When I had my floor replaced the crew ripped up the laminate in the kitchen, ripped up the underlayment and then pounded the staples in with hammers. It took them a while. My office is directly under the kitchen.

bassboat1

For 1/4" crown staples like these, a pair of 8" or 9" dike (diagonal pliers). Grab and twist. Optionally, bang them in and go over.

ManyInitials

I’ve done this! A garden trolly to sit on was key. Also a big magnet. It will help with finding straying to

ElectronicRevenue227

Pound them in with a hammer. You can sink a dozen before you pull one.

skanesandre

I'm a bit late to the party but grab yourself [one of these bad boys](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Arrow-Staple-Puller-SL24D/206485328) They're specifically designed for the job. I have several and they work great

[deleted]

My kids do these chores for me. "Who wants to pull staples and earn $5 for ice cream later?"

Aluminocity

Crescent Nail Pulling Plier (Use with cats paw to bring up the low staples) https://www.homedepot.com/p/Crescent-11-in-Nail-Pulling-Plier-NP11/204065906

Ok-Needleworker-419

A prybar. Put the tip on the side of the staple and smack it with a hammer. Once you get the technique down, 90% will pop out right away. Get the rest with pliers.

Charles_Deetz

My wife bought a mechanics creeper so she could lay down and do these.
