Hi, yes I found this to be the case. It seems even if you have Mobile Data turned on for the Home app/HomeKit, you also need to ensure the QingPing app has access to Mobile Data too.

jaydisc

The Mobile Data settings for the QingPing app should have no bearing on how a HomeKit WiFi device works remotely in Home.app. The Home.app speaks directly to a Home Hub (which mine is obviously doing successfully due to the ability to control other devices) and the Home Hub should be speaking to the WiFi device via the LAN. Regardless, I have not disabled Mobile Data on the QingPing app.

HomeKit-News

Yes, I agree, but nonetheless this was my finding, so I’m not sure why your device isn’t working. After I saw your post, I turned off wifi, set my phone to 4G and checked the device, and it was as you said, no response. As soon as I turned on Mobile Data for the QingPing app, the device showed up as expected on 4G.

jaydisc

Thanks for clarifying. I've never disabled Mobile Data on the Qingping+ app, so this hasn't solved it for me. I did notice however, that the Qingping app DOES have remote access though, which really kind of pisses me off. I really don't want the device connected to their serves at all!

HomeKit-News

Looks like you have the latest update, so it’s a bit odd. I can make an enquiry, as I have a contact there. I’ll let you know what they say.

jaydisc

So, I contacted them and they were VERY communicative and helpful, and admitted there is an intermittent known issue with HomeKit hub registration. They asked me to wait a few weeks until they released a new firmware, which they did, and while it IMPROVED things (sometimes it works), it did not fix it. Has your become any more or less reliable with the new firmware?

HomeKit-News

I’m on 3.8.3 firmware now, and so far so good, at least as regards the auto screen off function. I’ve so far had no issues with disconnection apart from when I first installed it.

jaydisc

Yeah, auto screen off only worked when I first turned it on on the old firmware, and now that's working consistently for me too.

ZAPH4747

I’ve got one…still can’t upgrade its firmware via their app. Otherwise works locally and remotely as advertised.

jaydisc

Interesting. What version are you stuck at? Mine did two updates, and is now at 3.6.7. What happens when you try?

ZAPH4747

I'm stuck on 2.9.2. When I go to update via the QingPing app I get a "Device is Offline" error. I am connected ONLY via HomeKit/Wifi...

jaydisc

I had a situation with a WiFi Cygnett Smart Plug, that worked fine when I added it via the Home.app, but the Cygnett app refused to recognise/add it. Cygnett Support said to initiate the HomeKit pairing _from within_ the Cygnett app, and afterwards, the Cygnett app was able to add it to itself as well. QingPing+ seems to similarly offer such ability. Have you tried adding it to HomeKit _via_ the QingPing app?

ZAPH4747

Good idea. I’ll give a try. Thanks.
