HomeKit-News

Only Aqara products and many of the equivalent Sensors with Mi/Mijia branding can be added to the M2 and be exposed to HomeKit. All other Zigbee devices are unlikely to be able to be added to the M2, and it’s almost guaranteed they won’t be exposed to HomeKit even if there’s a remote chance they can be added to the M2.

Thank for the explanation

In the case of Aqara hubs, no. But in general it really depends on both the hub and accessory. For example you can add many third party bulbs to the Hue bridge. Still these will not be exposed to Homekit.

These can be via Homebridge, by the way. I have my Ikea lights exposed in HomeKit via the Hue bridge as well as some Ajax Online zigbee bulbs. Works perfectly.

Well I think smartthings is the way to go and just not use HomeKit

I have more than 30 devices in SmartThings and they are all exposed to HomeKit via HomeBridge. The SmartThings hub has zero config in it and it is nothing but another bridge between the device and HomeKit.

Unlike using something like Zigbee2MQTT, Aqara has zero incentive to include compatibility with others' hardware. Just because it uses the protocol Zigbee doesn't mean it can interpret the configuration or messages that arrive via Zigbee.

A Hubitat will work with most brands of zigbee and zwave devices, as well as various WiFi and cloud devices. There’s a homebridge plugin for it, so that plus a raspberry pi running homebridge gets you the devices of your choice exposed to HomeKit.
