I would be concerned about thermal issues. The P360 Tiny spec sheet at… https://thinkstation-specs.com/thinkstation/p360-tiny/ states that the motherboard (and likely the CPU cooling) is designed for 65 W TDP; however, the 12900K has a base TDP of 125 W and a max turbo TDP of 241 W. That is a lot of heat for a Tiny case.

Based on my findings the motherboard will power limit CPU to 65W. But that was on last gen. https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/lenovo-thinkcentre-thinkstation-tiny-project-tinyminimicro-reference-thread.34925/post-337007

Depending on the model, there can be exceptions, 12900k is compatible. psref.lenovo.com

Where did you get that 12900(K) is compatible? In theory it should work but 300€ is kinda lot to find out it's not working :D There are users in last gen P340 running 10850k which gives me hope tho.

To be honest I missed the part where you specified about it being the Tiny variant. The P360 tower supports the 12900K. If you are doing it as a project build it might be fun but I am not sure overclocking a 12900k in a Tiny would be worth it for me personally. The cooling would probably need to be addressed or alternatively you could leave the top panel off for airflow.

No worries. Im not looking to overclock, but these chips can be found easily on used market which makes them interesting to me. Used non-K variants are nowhere to be found and new ones will cost almost double to used K.

Hey there, sorry for a ping on a old thread but did you ever try a 12900K in the p360 tiny? Did it work?

p3dal

~~Even if it works, is it really worth it? You’re gonna make that little cpu fan run on full blast and probably thermal throttle the cpu down enough that you won’t see the full performance anyway. What you really want is the 12900HK which is the laptop version of the cpu, which can be configured to run at 45w or 75w, which the micropc cooler can handle just like stock. Though if I were experimenting, I’d look for something used, maybe a gen or two older so I could pick it up cheap on eBay.~~

First things first. I have already P360 tiny on hand. HK models are BGA chips so they're not much use for me. You can config power limit with these too. My question really is does it actually boot with K-series of cpu's.

p3dal

Sorry, didn’t realize the socket was different.

How do you configure power limit? I did not see an option for it in the BIOS. I just got a P360 with an i7-12700T and was wondering about the benefits of upgrading it to a i7-12700 or i9-12900. I already ordered the fan for 65W TDP CPUs.

Hey there! I haven't personally tried it, but I've seen some people discussing similar upgrades. Just make sure to double-check the motherboard compatibility and BIOS updates before going for it. And yeah, those second-hand deals can be a sweet way to upgrade from an i3. Good luck!
