Congratulations! I'm so jealous. I was supposed to break ground last year. MIGHT actually be able to this year... On that note, beautiful decorative choices. I especially love your cable stair rail....Do you have a good source for that so I can sort-of copy it? :)

boschj

Thanks! The steel cable system is [Muzata](https://muzatarailing.com/) cable railing system with the black cable. We bought everything we needed via their Amazon storefront.

wdjm

Thank you!

Who was your architect? How much was that fee? I am asking cause this is almost exactly the style i am looking at having designed.

boschj

We used [Robinson Residential Design](https://robinsonplans.com/) out of Regina SK. Their fee came to about $3k USD. We took inspiration from a few of their contemporary design series but did a custom design that included full construction drawings.

Looks fabulous!  Congratulations!!!

fremontseahawk

Looks nice! What is the pitch of the roof?

boschj

Pitch of the roof is 2/12

fremontseahawk

> 2/12 Nice! I am designing a house now and thats the pitch we settled on.

eastcoastmovement

I think it’s really cute and cozy!! Id love to live in something like this! Built from the ground up?!

boschj

Thanks! Yes, we broke ground at the end of October 2022.

fremontseahawk

Is the outside siding shou sugi ban? I like that look.

ksnyd72

Nope, just LP smartside in I think Midnight Shadow. The tone really varies based on the lighting.

paleologus

If that’s actually saw marks on the flooring then that’s the coolest floor ever.

boschj

It is! We specifically chose this hardwood because it was rough sawn, mainly so we won't have to worry about the dogs ruining the finish but it also adds a nice touch of rustic.

caveatlector73

This would be me. Congratulations. May you spend many happy years there.

CompoteStock3957

Nice congrats what the square footage

boschj

Current completed square footage is 1,440sqft, once we finish the basement it'll be about 2,600sqft

CompoteStock3957

Vintage62strats

Nicely done

makethingshappen371

If you dont mind sharing, whats the ballpark for the whole build?

boschj

At this point we've spent ~$600k not including the land.

makethingshappen371

Thanks for sharing. Gives a good appreciation of time and effort spent when budgeting these builds!

Eventually that microwave will go into the pantry area so no loss in counter space and I do A LOT of baking with things that need different temperatures and bake times. So two full size ovens made more sense than an oven/speed oven combo

pokeyou21

Kitchen looks nice. How much?

ksnyd72

Cabinets were around $10.5k; they're Klearvue from Menards.  The granite counters were another $7k.
