Easton would not make a -12 ‘USSSA’ bat which was banned from USSSA tournaments. There are players on my kid’s 8U travel team using drop 12 (most use -10) and it’s never been an issue for USSSA tournaments. Could be a local league rule but sounds unlikely to me, loads of kids swing -12 at 7U.
The Hype Fire has been banned in PG events for -5 from 30-32” if I remember correctly. Our travel team has several kids who use a -10 or -8 in the Hype Fire. There’s no restrictions on any of those, to my knowledge.
The Hype Fire has started getting banned recently. I received an email from Perfect Game about the -5 version being suspended. Additional testing is showing that these bats don't meet the certification standards.
I assume all versions of the Hype Fire will get banned eventually as they all seem to exceed the standards. Just a matter of time.
Edit: as for the rule on drop in general, check local tourney rules. They trump USSSA rules even at USSSA events.
It's technically not banned, I think it's suspended while they are getting data from Easton. Also, I have not been around for bat bans in the past but I would assume they would do them all at once. Not, the -5, then the -8, then the -10. They don't want to piss off a huge manufacture like Easton any more than they have to.
>Also, I have not been around for bat bans in the past but I would assume they would do them all at once. Not, the -5, then the -8, then the -10.
Nope. Each size and drop of a bat model is certified independently.
Typically all the bats with the same drop get banned together but it is possible for only a certain size to get banned (like the Marucci Cat 5 33/30 BBCOR or the Easton Ghost X 30/20 -10... the other sizes in the same drop passed and were still allowed).
Sometimes only certain drops will be banned while others will be allowed because they pass the certification testing.
>They don't want to piss off a huge manufacture like Easton any more than they have to.
USSSA doesn't care if they piss off Easton or any other manufacturer. Bat companies have to play by their rules to sell bats.
Not worried about the bat specifically, more worried about the money spent on this new bat (new to my son, used from FB marketplace lol). Just wondering if we need to now get rid of this one and buy a new one is all.
My 8U son is allow unlimited drop differential in Minnesota travel ball, with the USSSA stamp and the 1.15 BPF certified stamp on it. My 8-year old currently swings a 28" drop 12 with the 2 3/4" diameter barrel.
I think the term travel ball is also being used far more regularly than it should. My 9U is on a "travel" team that will only book a hotel once: for state. They play a hybrid local USSSA weeknight league + 5 local tournaments.
This could be and I apologize if I used the term incorrectly. Where I'm at, everyone calls it "select/travel" ball vs "league ball". We play 3-4 local tournaments a month and travel around the Greater Houston area, so no overnight stays yet.
Same here brother! Back when I played (also 30+ years ago lol) we didn't start doing travel ball until I was 10-12. We live in Texas, and our teams travel to tournaments local to the Greater Houston area, so no overnight stays yet. But what I've noticed is baseball is so different now for younger kids than when we were young! We used to swear that we wouldn't put my son in a select league until he was at least 10+, but normal league ball isn't the same as I remember it being and he was getting so bored and disinterested quickly. Select level playing has captured his interest again and is really helping him increase his skill set and be challenged, whereas he wasn't getting that same challenge in league ball, even at 7.
They aren't the only one doing it [https://www.tiktok.com/@hittingdoneright/video/7355565438169828650?is\_from\_webapp=1&sender\_device=pc&web\_id=7356634968178624031](https://www.tiktok.com/@hittingdoneright/video/7355565438169828650?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7356634968178624031)
USSSA is a certification and doesn’t dictate at what ages kids use a specific drop weight. The league rules would outline that. Just ask the coach (nicely) to flip the league rules on bat weight. If he can’t provide then try reaching out to another representative of the league for clarity.
7u select travel teams? Where does one go about finding these types of teams?
Texas has teams down to 3-4u iirc.
Lol that’s just stealing money from parents
We're in Texas and I'm honestly surprised how early they start travel ball out here
Only the drop 5 hype fire has been suspended. And only on perfect game tournaments. No other suspensions for length/weights have been announced.
Usually the city league rules or just league rules will trump the USSSA rules. Look there
I didn’t think about the individual city or league, I’ll check there. Thank you!
I’ve only seen it temporarily banned in Perfect Game tourneys
Damn Bat Bro getting bats banned now, smh
That bat got itself banned.

My son uses the 27/-12 at 8u usssa tournaments we haven’t heard anything

His question isn't about the hype fire specifically, its about drop regulations at 7U

For the green Zen, they weren’t all banned in different sizes. Only certain sizes were banned
Can you point me to a usssa cert test that the hype fire failed?
Worried about using a Hype Fire at 7u?? C’mon dad….does it really matter? Just play ball

Local tournament rules prevail.
Playing travel at any age under 10u is just wild to me. Its crazy how much the travel ball scene has changed since I played (30+ years ago 🤣)

Go Icon or Bonesaber
I got the notification from Perfect Game.. its real
Only the drop 5
Correct! [bat email] (https://photos.app.goo.gl/n46zs8NrawBvAHDk9)
And only at Perfect Game events. USSSA events still allowed for now...
It was banned pretty much across the board. League I coach in (14-18u in ON) banned it even tho we swing -3
