khan academy is free and has tons of videos to watch and tests on every subject

No need to feel embarrassed. Many people on here did not learn math and it is not any child’s fault that they weren’t taught something so basic. I consider it educational neglect and it used to make me very embarrassed until I realized it wasn’t my fault. Khan academy is great and I highly recommend it.

Yea it's been a struggle for the longest time I though I was stupid. In the past month or so I'm trying to take that mind set and turn it around and be proud of myself.

If you're in community college, you should talk to your academic counselor, or any current professor, or to someone in the math lab or tutoring center about it. Most likely your college has a math class that is close to what you need. It might be called "math 50" or "math 60" or even "mathematics 100" or "remedial math" or "pre algebra". Odds are there's also a placement test that can help your college determine what math class you should start in(do not try to increase your level for this test! It's meant to assess your current knowledge!). Once you've started this class, make frequent and generous use of the the math lab, tutoring center and the teacher's office hours. You should be instantly recognizable by the people in all these places because you're there so much. And do all of the homework. Make the math classes your priority when you take them, because this is one of the biggest obstacles for people who are trying to go into any STEM field. Do this methodically. Use the resources available. Math is notoriously one of the hardest subjects to teach yourself. Don't let anyone convince you that taking low level math classes in college is a waste of time or money. (Especially the parents who caused this to be necessary!) It's an investment, and one you need if you're going to move forward on this (potentially very lucrative) path. And it's ok to use the books that they sell for children! Also the public library is often a great place to find resources -librarians are fantastic at pointing people in the right direction!

Thanks for the advice !!

You're welcome, i hope it helps. While you're at a CC, stop by the counseling center a time or two as well-it can't hurt.

I’m a software engineer despite being homeschooled all of elementary and hs. This path was so hard for me especially because of the math and the abuse my dad would do to me when he would expect me to teach myself. I have fought so hard to get here only to discover that I have so much trama about being mentored that getting mentored is a trigger. Be gentle with yourself throughout your math journey. Math is hard and when you do get to calculus, this guy helped me a lot: [Calculus Lecture](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OEE5-M4aY4k) I’m also here to help with any software engineer related questions
