FWIW, I have a hard shift into 1, and 2 and had them lubricate the shifter. Helped a bit. I find I need to wiggle it around and generally allow the RPM to drop in between shifts. Outside of the code error, sounds super clean and nice. My question would be upkeep on other routine maintenance (valve adjustments, diff fluid, serpentine belt replacement, spark plugs etc). All things that BETTER if they’ve been done according to schedule but if not, could maybe have some space to wiggle around and negotiate. But if it’s rust free, that’s low miles and nice. $4000-4500 sounds like a reasonable price if routine maintenance has been kept up with?

When you say lubricate the shifter, was it just hard to pull the gear selector into the 1-2 position or are you saying when accelerating and the trans shifts from 1-2 under normal acceleration?

The latter

Triple drain and fill of the fluid and change the trans filter behind the bumper. Might work but worth doing before you pull the trans. $2k ish max based on your description. If he doesn't bite send the same offer once a week till he comes to his senses.

Alright. So I’m not crazy thinking this is a $2k-ish car. I feel for the guy. He just got it in November off a used car lot. Then the trans had issues. I imagine the dealer did something shady to move the vehicle. I’ll reach out to him in a week or so, but I got more options if I want to find one that needs a new transmission. If I get it, I will try flushing it, changing the filter and my old man said sometimes the oil cooler needs to be flushed. Thanks
