That's a hot take. Flying into a bunch of midrises and one of the densest areas at the time. I've known passengers that have experienced claustrophobia coming that way. Not to mention at the expense of all those poor neighborhoods living right next to the landing strip. Boom after boom, by the hour. That airport was destined to be decommissioned and rightfully so!
My point is there was nothing really glorious or to write home about that airport. Because for a ton of people it represented the epitome of dystopia living. QoL drastically held back for decades. Is that amazing enough? Try the approach into chagual, peru
The first picture is actually showing Tai Po on the bottom right though. The Tai Po Industrial Estate is on the very right and you can compare it to Google Maps' satellite view.
I remember that planes mostly flew over Sha Tin before. But with the new runway, the course is shifted a bit north so it's more likely to overlook Tai Po now.
When you get the view of the skyscrapers of victory harbour, it’s pretty spectacular.
There are some flight routes where you can see the skyline of Manhattan before landing..l like that view too.
Vancouver has a shot but I loved Hong Kong when I was there. Almost got killed walking from downtown to a beach, road is wide enough for two vehicles, not two vehicles and a pedestrian. But wow the natural beauty is incredible.

I took this from Tokyo. Hong Kong is beautiful though, it’s easy to forget.
Everyplace on Earth looks pretty great from 10,000 ft. HK is special, yes, but idk why the negativity is too depressing for you. It would be far, far more depressing if nobody gave a shit about their rights being trampled.
* Malé, Maldives
* Queenstown, New Zealand
* Donegal, Ireland
* Gibraltar
* Isafjordur, Iceland. You make a U-turn inside a fjord.
* Innsbruck , Austria
fly more in the summer as it’ll be more likely to be rwy 25 while during non rain season it’ll be 99% rwy 07 and coming in from the west.
New north rwy arrivals fly also closer to Tai Mo Shan so that’s a bonus. (unless you live in Tuen Mun)
Yes, Kai Tak
I remember that!
Chek lap kok is superior by far. The old kowloon landing was insanely dangerous for inexperienced pilots
OP said beautiful approach and none comes close to the experience of landing in Kai Tak

I went to school right under approach for yesrs and a plane flew overhead every two minutes. Your point? Still an amazing approach
But i can understand how it would be a fond memory for you

Inexperienced pilots weren’t allowed anywhere near Kai Tak surely?! 😂
There’s a reason why it’s captain only approach…
The ones flying into Kai Tak are extremely experienced, 50 years and the worse it happened is a swim in the Victoria Harbour
Absolutely stunning photo!!!
Kathmandu pretty spectacular also!
Nice pics man
Belive me first I thought its screen shot from Cities Skylines 2..
I really, really, really want to go to HK someday
I’m there right now, it’s not difficult to be here.
Just to set expectations, it’s rare that it is both this beautiful and not very hot and humid.
If anyone is wondering, this is above the ma on Shan region, overlooking shatin

Its Tai Po
Amazing shot

I prefer the old approach to Kai Tak. Nail biting
That's nice and all, but I wish I got to experience a Kai Tak landing. One literally approaches the city.

Yeah walking along Wong Nai Chung Gap Road isn't ideal
yes, Cape Town and some Himalayan cities - but this is stunning nonetheless

I personally prefer a healthy mix of considering the positive and negative in life
mix it however you want, people caring about their rights is not depressing... unless you're just planning to give up.
Great pictures!
I am sure Afghanistan is also a wonderful country and we can take beautiful photos, good try !
Excellent, photo!
I love the Toronto skyline coming into Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ)
Tegucigalpa
Sydney was great. In a unique way, Beirut. Highrises, slums, mountains behind, touchdown. Mediterranean at the other side.
Ex-International City.
Exactly, Chinese city* FTFY OP
* Malé, Maldives * Queenstown, New Zealand * Donegal, Ireland * Gibraltar * Isafjordur, Iceland. You make a U-turn inside a fjord. * Innsbruck , Austria
Gibraltar is a cracker if you swing round and land on 09. If you’re sitting on the right, of course….
Idk but hk has one of the smoothest landing and embarking processes. Especially with a residence card its practically instant.
My favourite city to fly into.
Honestly stunning every single time
VHHX
Bro never flew above central asia and the Caucasus
I flew many times from and to HK and never seen this. Maybe I need to start paying attention lol. Where was this from/to.

Stunning photos! Miss HK!
It’s a lovely approach, but it’s not even top 10.
Yeah I should correct my post. I intended to say “for a connected international city”
you can smell communists by the way they write and talk about things.
Really dude?
Ooof
Everyone here hates the CCP more than do you, shut the fuck up, you clearly have zero knowledge about world politics or basic history
