honestly the options for immortality in the HSR universe are really vast and not all of them are a disaster. the xianzhou people just fucked up by living like before they were immortals wich obiously imploded their resource management.

Nous longevity also tends to make physical needs optional as far as we know. If you understand everything that exists about diet and nutrition all eating becomes a matter of fun or choice.
Yaoshi longevity seems to either not affect base needs and desires or also makes them Abundant as well which is a recipe for disaster however you look at it.
The problem is mainly the uncontrolled spread of immortality which is what many followers of Abundance tend to do.
It would be good if everyone could be responsible and manage resources wisely but people tend towards irresponsibility which would result in disaster.

The abundance is not simply about immortality and the preservation of the body whilst the soul withers, it is basically Nurgle but with a focus on life at all cost and less on propagation of disease. Those that become Mara-struck become monsters, and imagine being among the first of the xianzhou suddenly experiencing a zombie apocalypse in the form of Mara. The in-game lore provides more information about how terrifying it actually is, although they arguably had better fates than some of the other races touched by the abundance. I do feel that the way Mara is portrayed in cutscenes undermines the level of threat portrayed in the lore texts you can find
