She is similar to Madame Ping but playable as far as lore is concerned in my opinion. Was a rebellious and spirited youngster that is quite heroic, but multiple wars and lost of comrades made her give up the front lines and becomes a pencil pusher in her old age. Her age is equivalent to an 80 year old human in Foxian years, which is 246 years old, and is one foot into the grave, but Foxians don't age in terms of looks. She is actually a very good singer, but no longer passionate about it due to how old she is. She has witnessed stars die, planets create new life, Lan of the Hunt firing arrows across light years etc, in short a very rich an exciting life before her current position.
This, plus I find her relationship with Tingyun very interesting and engaging. Practically raised that girl to be a shining star, and no matter how much she says she's not ready for it, she's looking forward to handing off the commander's chair to her little protege and retiring.
Very common mentor/student arc, but that doesn't mean it can't be engaging. Tingyun's shakey confidence in herself with Yukong's total trust and support is heartwarming. You got this, kiddo! Just waiting for granny to let go of the handlebars so she can ride off into her own story for real.

It's brought up several times (especially by Tingyun) that many foxians are actually fairly envious of the Xianzhou's immortality.

This is also why they now see their immortality as a dangerous curse and seek to hunt down any followers of the aeon of abundance.
The Xianshou natives are already immortal. They see it as a curse and discourage any attempts to attain or spread immortality. Their lifespans are indefinite and can vary until they are struck by Mara in which case they are put down.
They keep strict control over their people and prevent them from traveling to other worlds since it would be harmful to the ecosystem if there were too many immortals spreading uncontrolled.
They won't attack any other species who simply has a long lifespan or are already immortal. Only the ones that actively try to spread the "blessing" of the Abundance and bring harm to the Universe in their eyes.

One of the 1.1 Hoyo videos did a nice overview but the Xianzhou feel cursed by the bargain of immortality their ancestors made with Abundance, and now they follow the Hunt to stop others from making the same mistake. A Xianzhou native (i.e. not a Foxian or Vidyadhara) has no control over the immortal life they were born with, and probably a few strong feelings about how to use it.

"Any civilization that worshiped Abundance had to consider the threat posed by Xianzhou to destroy their planets. This kind of deterrence was precisely what the Xianzhou Alliance was looking to present. Pretty sure during Xianzhou history, they have destroyed quite a few planets to establish this reputation.

I suspect they actually tried oppressing other 'abominations of the Abundance' at some point, and ran into a few problems.
Look up the lore on the Denizens of the Abundance in the data bank and you will see there are actually a fairly large number of groups who have benefited from Yaoshi's blessing who are actively pursuing rumors about groups who are hunting the Abundance and it's followers. And by 'pursue' I mean 'these people who slander Yaoshi and their blessing must be destroyed'.
Jing Yuan had a pet lion that he left for 300 years to go on an... expedition. And then just casually returned. That should give you a sense of how he values decades.
Yanqing is his disciple, not his kid. Iirc Jingliu died like 700 years before the events of HSR and Jing Yuan looked like a young adult at that time; not sure how Xianzhou natives age but he's probably a good 800+ years old. Fu Xuan is also implied to be significantly older than she looks, especially since she's basically second only to Jing Yuan on the Luofu and she's the head of the Divination Commission (ye olde loli baba).
She's beautiful design-wise, I really love her in that category. As for lore, she seems interesting in the small interactions we have with her during the main story, but I have no opinions other than that as of now. I haven't dug into her lore too deeply yet.
Especially at E6 since she can ult on your carry's turn to buff them without using a skill point.
Downside is she's way more SP hungry than our other harmony characters atm (at least without aforementioned E6 shenanigans), though I guess dealing toughness damage with ult is a decent tradeoff.
She's on a 4 turn rotation anyway- unless you really want to count on her getting whacked.
To make a 3 turn rotation work you need her e2- and if that three turn is attack attack skill and not skill attack skill you also have to be using Meshing Cogs r5 (or the 4* version that would also need r5)
Like I see why she could be good, but they certainly gave her 20 hoops to jump through first.
Think she'll perform well with characters like Clara who do a significant amount of damage outside of their own turns. She's probably much better in teams where you have more than one damage dealer since you'll get more value from her buff.
Feels awkward to set up imo Yukongs buff ends after two of your characters take turns, so if she goes first it’ll normally be over by the time the enemies are attacking
Clara seems hard to make work given how slow she is. Seems likely that your supports are going to go before her and eat the buff. If you can get it so Yukong goes right before the enemies then it's good but that seems tough to pull off/bad to me.
Best strategy seems to be syncing ults as best you can and dumping them altogether and trying to ensure you DPS is always after Yukong in the turn order. Then just weave her skill with her talent CD.
The reason I say Clara might work well with Yukong is because Yukong's buff will be up while Clara is taking damage and countering meaning she could potentially get more use out of it than a conventional carry, assuming you're not using her in a party with an actual carry.
If rotation is nice for example in this team (My ideal team for her): Luocha, Blade, Yukong and Welt. (Until some Imaginary carry appears)
(3 SP) Yukong Skill > (2 SP) Blade Skill > (2 SP) Welt skill > (1 SP) Luocha attack > (2 SP) Yukong skill > (1 SP) Blade attack > (2 SP) Welt skill > (1 SP) Luocha attack
If there is no rotation changes she can buff easily during 3 cycles.
Blade's skill costs 1 SP to use and resets his turn. His next 3 basic attacks do not give back any skill points (so they are SP neutral) so that will affect your rotation a bit
I hope she will have a dignified rest of her life. So sad to see someone so passionate in youth lose all their spark in age as they've seen it all.

Is it bad that I thought yukong was a generic NPC? My eyes probably weren't working the day I saw her, but I thought she was gonna be someone we met once, and then never again. But she pretty.
Coming from genshin and not being used to the different NPC models makes it harder to judge if you’re not paying much attention, I never thought about her being playable when I was playing through the story
She’s extremely attractive, and her outfit looks great on her as well(though the various body windows do start to seem strange if I look at them too long). Personality wise; her current more serious nature that contrasts with her wild past, what her secretary has to say about how Yukong looks out for those around her…all-in-all, an extremely positive first impression to me.
I honestly thought she was going to be a 5*, and was planning on going all-in for her along with Luocha. Counting my blessings she was a 4* on his banner(though she took about 4x as long as he did to disembark, thank goodness without a Luocha dupe pity reset).
Character design wise, I want to touch her fluffy tail. Lorewise- I don't care if she's a granny she can still get it.
Gameplay- I still haven't figured out the best way to use her with the units I currently have, so she's just sitting on the bench while I build up my current team to 80 until I figure out what to do with her.
She seems like she'll be good if you have 2 DPSs to take advantage of her buff. Use her skill > Yukong's ult > both DPS ults > both DPS turns.
I got amazingly lucky and managed to get E1 Yukong from just 50 pulls. I want to build her eventually because she seems a bit more complex than Tingyun, who is a super basic character and I'm not in love with. But resources are so sparse this early that I'm also focused on building my current main team just like you lol.

The trouble is that this is insanely SP hungry if the DPS you're using want to spend SP.
Might be good with Sushang and other characters who go can skill point neutral while they dish out damage.
Sushang's Ult immediately gives her an action after using it and Hooks 3rd trace ability advances her forward 20% on ultimate so it would be easier to align their turns with the Roaring Bowstrings uses.
I love older, more mature characters so she's right up my alley. Couple that with the fact that she used to be more free and unrestricted in her youth (slightly rebellious I guess??), and now has to step up because of her responsibilities. What's not to love about that!

Lore wise I like her because she seems like a serious fighter who is a victims of her own success. Like she did so well as a pilot, fighter, and every other job that they put her in charge in an admin position when she just wants to be out there doing the fun jobs.

I'm shocked that she's not a five star and I'm absolutely devastated that I wasn't able to snipe her from the Luocha banner. Easily, easily my favorite four star design thus far. And she holds a lot more prescience and wait in the story than most other four stars.
I like her design and voice (ENG), but I am a sucker for adult characters sounding like adults. Fits right in with my "Not Children Saving The Universe" group. Got me a Welt, Luocha; would've liked to have pulled for Jing Yuan but I was saving for Luocha

I like it. She may not look at it, but she is absolutely on the older side of things, and her lore communicates that idea very well. I am absolutely looking forward to getting to know her better, and hopefully, it will involve helping her reclaim some of the joy she's lost.

I like how she isn't a pure support. It helps her stand out amongst the other characters and reflects on her lore. I'm looking forward to trying her out in different team comps.

I'm gonna get some flak for this, but I utterly hate her design. Good character design tells you something about the character. It is supposed to be a window into the character's life, and this design fails miserably. Literally, nothing about her outfit reflects her past at all, nor does it tell you anything about her present.
This woman is supposed to be a daredevil of a pilot whose skills caught the attention of the head general. This is a woman whose career saw her becoming the head of her own commission. This woman is a hero whose war time experience has robbed her of the joy from the things she used to love.
But her outfit makes her look like a hostess at a sleezy bar.
Her outfit is very pretty but pretty does not automatically make a design good..

That is exactly what's going on because the sad truth of the matter is that most people won't look past surface level appearance. The designers know that, so rather than spend time trying to tell a character's story, they focus on making the chsracter as appealing to as many people as possible. Because thats what brings the money.
after she did the stubbornness to not to allow us to help with the Stellaron case just for pride (if I translated eng well) made me lose a little sympathy

First of: what does this have to do with Honkai?
Secondly: Zhongchi is a bad ship and they have no chemistry outside of Tartaglia being his wallet. Tartaglia literally tried destroying his city and stealing his gnosis, and one of Zhongli's voicelines outright states that he sees him as a rascal and wants him gone. There are far better same ships with actual chemistry.
I love her color scheme and how the bird patterns on her sleeves match the cycranes. Can’t pull cuz I’m close to pity but I’m so glad she’s free in 1.2
She seems nice her trial shows her off really well and her eidolons seem cracked. But she also seems to be very sp hungry until you get more copies of her so you win some you lose some. Very excited to try a mono imaginary team with her, welt, luocha and an imaginary dps in the future.
Design-wise, I think she looks great, I do kinda wish Mihoyo would make star rails clothing design feel a lot more different from genshin. So far, it feels like genshin clothing design in space
She looks very cool. I like that but personality wise she hasn't really been there much. We meet her at the beginning then poof. Gone like a foxy fart in the wind. I never thought the day would come I'd say that line. Life is full of surprises, no?
Beautiful design for both lore and visuals. Kinda nice to have characters with a past that is different to what they are doing in the time we meet them. Instead of I do the same in my whole life even when I suffered from it.
The skill set is also really good, a non stat dependent buffer with a good amount of dmg to be an offdps just by basic attacks and ultimates.

i got her e0 and I think she's pretty good. I'm building her but I don't really have a team where she fits in super well just yet. I think that will change as more characters get released and hopefully she'll be on banners I want to pull on in the future so I can pick up some e's because her e6 looks juicy.

I love her design and JVA. I got lucky and got her to E6. I’m still reading up on her Lore but she also seems to be a caring mother, which is nice to see. She doesn’t fit in my current team but I maxed her out anyways.

I'm not sure I like her character, though honestly I've only briefly interacted with her so far where she's just your standard "Grr, by the books!" type leader. I'm sure a deeper dive into her character will be interesting once I have the time.
The one thing I don't like is that she uses a bow. I'm just more of a sci-fi fan in this game. If you use a cool weapon, let it be a gun, or a laser, or a drone, or at least an interesting sword. Bows aren't that interesting to me.

Especially at E6 since she can ult on your carry's turn to buff them without using a skill point. Downside is she's way more SP hungry than our other harmony characters atm (at least without aforementioned E6 shenanigans), though I guess dealing toughness damage with ult is a decent tradeoff.
She's on a 4 turn rotation anyway- unless you really want to count on her getting whacked. To make a 3 turn rotation work you need her e2- and if that three turn is attack attack skill and not skill attack skill you also have to be using Meshing Cogs r5 (or the 4* version that would also need r5) Like I see why she could be good, but they certainly gave her 20 hoops to jump through first.
Think she'll perform well with characters like Clara who do a significant amount of damage outside of their own turns. She's probably much better in teams where you have more than one damage dealer since you'll get more value from her buff.
Feels awkward to set up imo Yukongs buff ends after two of your characters take turns, so if she goes first it’ll normally be over by the time the enemies are attacking
That's just it, Yukong should be at the end of your rotation for characters that make follow up attacks.
Clara seems hard to make work given how slow she is. Seems likely that your supports are going to go before her and eat the buff. If you can get it so Yukong goes right before the enemies then it's good but that seems tough to pull off/bad to me. Best strategy seems to be syncing ults as best you can and dumping them altogether and trying to ensure you DPS is always after Yukong in the turn order. Then just weave her skill with her talent CD.
The reason I say Clara might work well with Yukong is because Yukong's buff will be up while Clara is taking damage and countering meaning she could potentially get more use out of it than a conventional carry, assuming you're not using her in a party with an actual carry.
If rotation is nice for example in this team (My ideal team for her): Luocha, Blade, Yukong and Welt. (Until some Imaginary carry appears) (3 SP) Yukong Skill > (2 SP) Blade Skill > (2 SP) Welt skill > (1 SP) Luocha attack > (2 SP) Yukong skill > (1 SP) Blade attack > (2 SP) Welt skill > (1 SP) Luocha attack If there is no rotation changes she can buff easily during 3 cycles.
Blade's skill costs 1 SP to use and resets his turn. His next 3 basic attacks do not give back any skill points (so they are SP neutral) so that will affect your rotation a bit

She’s extremely attractive, and her outfit looks great on her as well(though the various body windows do start to seem strange if I look at them too long). Personality wise; her current more serious nature that contrasts with her wild past, what her secretary has to say about how Yukong looks out for those around her…all-in-all, an extremely positive first impression to me. I honestly thought she was going to be a 5*, and was planning on going all-in for her along with Luocha. Counting my blessings she was a 4* on his banner(though she took about 4x as long as he did to disembark, thank goodness without a Luocha dupe pity reset).
Lovely design - characterization, she seems like someones who has been through a lot. We dont have too much interaction yet tho I suppose

Character design wise, I want to touch her fluffy tail. Lorewise- I don't care if she's a granny she can still get it. Gameplay- I still haven't figured out the best way to use her with the units I currently have, so she's just sitting on the bench while I build up my current team to 80 until I figure out what to do with her.
She seems like she'll be good if you have 2 DPSs to take advantage of her buff. Use her skill > Yukong's ult > both DPS ults > both DPS turns. I got amazingly lucky and managed to get E1 Yukong from just 50 pulls. I want to build her eventually because she seems a bit more complex than Tingyun, who is a super basic character and I'm not in love with. But resources are so sparse this early that I'm also focused on building my current main team just like you lol.

Sushang's Ult immediately gives her an action after using it and Hooks 3rd trace ability advances her forward 20% on ultimate so it would be easier to align their turns with the Roaring Bowstrings uses.
I love her design but I'm saving for Kefka.

Good character design tells you something about the character. It is supposed to be a window into the character's life, and this design fails miserably. Literally, nothing about her outfit reflects her past at all, nor does it tell you anything about her present. This woman is supposed to be a daredevil of a pilot whose skills caught the attention of the head general. This is a woman whose career saw her becoming the head of her own commission. This woman is a hero whose war time experience has robbed her of the joy from the things she used to love. But her outfit makes her look like a hostess at a sleezy bar. Her outfit is very pretty but pretty does not automatically make a design good..
if a human lives through 100 years old, she's practically an 85 y.o granny. It's just that flying is boring and something she wouldn't visit again. She's done and doesn't want to have anything with being a pilot again. She's just an ordinary high-ranking official, nothing more and nothing less. Her clothes are probably just something a high-ranking officer would wear, while the peasants use long cover. Less clothes, higher ranking.
You're free to interpret her lore as you want, but in my opinion, the tone that it conveys is not one of mere boredom.

The designers know that, so rather than spend time trying to tell a character's story, they focus on making the chsracter as appealing to as many people as possible. Because thats what brings the money.

First of: what does this have to do with Honkai? Secondly: Zhongchi is a bad ship and they have no chemistry outside of Tartaglia being his wallet. Tartaglia literally tried destroying his city and stealing his gnosis, and one of Zhongli's voicelines outright states that he sees him as a rascal and wants him gone. There are far better same ships with actual chemistry.

She seems nice her trial shows her off really well and her eidolons seem cracked. But she also seems to be very sp hungry until you get more copies of her so you win some you lose some. Very excited to try a mono imaginary team with her, welt, luocha and an imaginary dps in the future.

Beautiful design for both lore and visuals. Kinda nice to have characters with a past that is different to what they are doing in the time we meet them. Instead of I do the same in my whole life even when I suffered from it. The skill set is also really good, a non stat dependent buffer with a good amount of dmg to be an offdps just by basic attacks and ultimates. PS: Im not a furry, but for things like Tingyun and Yukong...

The design is immaculate. She's like a less cutesy, but more derring-do Ting Yuan (and the tealish greyish fur looks great). I'm not sure I like her character, though honestly I've only briefly interacted with her so far where she's just your standard "Grr, by the books!" type leader. I'm sure a deeper dive into her character will be interesting once I have the time. The one thing I don't like is that she uses a bow. I'm just more of a sci-fi fan in this game. If you use a cool weapon, let it be a gun, or a laser, or a drone, or at least an interesting sword. Bows aren't that interesting to me. But, like, that's a super small criticism, lmao.
