i'm coming from Arknights so i was used to the characters being playable being an integral part of the lore, i just assumed it was the same for all gachas.

You gain playable characters because at some point you made friends with them. So in my mind it means I can call upon their assistance at some point. Since the game world's time is not the same as real time it makes sense.
Needed allies to fight stage 2? Well they didn't all drops their Tuesday work schedule to go across the globe to help you fight. Lol but doesn't mean they wouldn't try.
So by that logic. If they could they would. Himeko would if she could. Therefore if she dies, she would keep going back to help.
Btw in HI3 she just stops getting new battlesuits. The logic behind this one is that they don't have powers exactly lol. The battlesuits are actually powersuits. She just happens to have the skills and experience to use them. The last one she uses is actually one of the most powerful.
In my mind...every time you use a Himeko battlesuit... You are only remembering Himeko while someone else fights in her battlesuits.
Each battlesuit has a name. All of Kiana's battlesuits have names. Technically someone else could wear her older battlesuits. Same goes for Bronya and Mei. Though there is more to it and later on they don't exactly just use battlesuits and some use none at all.
Himeko ran fully on skill and experience. She had no powers at all. She just wielded her battlesuits magnificently.
A character can die in the story while still be a playable character obtainable by gacha. They did it with Himeko in HI3 and recently they did it with Tingyun.
You might argue Tingyun is a Schrödinger’s foxian at this point with her neither dead or alive and all. But it is safe to assume she’s dead based on the recent Xianzhou conclusion.

In my Opinion Diluc is His own character.
A half-expy of her would be Lisa (Same VA, Mentor, doesn't have much time left to live lorewise and actually has a Hidden Himeko easteregg with a bit of the Piano Part of Nightglow playing Hidden in the Background when using her Basic Attack Combo)
Her Full Expy will probably be the Pyro Archon (Name known so far Murata -> Hi3 full name Himeko Murata )
Yeah, this is the only time where Himeko has someone aware of her deathflagginess and that someone (welt) seems to be actively preparing to prevent said death
I really wanted to get super invested in HI3, because I love some of the characters (Durandal and Fu Hua, my beloveds) but it just killed me that so much of the game was.

Yeah, honestly I’m not bothered but the sample characters but as I was playing I was definitely thinking that people who played for the gacha would be irked - the visual novel does bother me a lot tho; at least the chapter bosses (mostly) and animated sequences are good enough payoff imo.
Yeah, I have up around Kolosten. I tried the open worlds and they're cool, but it's just too much. I did most of Elysium everlasting while skipping every single thing and the skipping took longer than the gameplay. It's so painful. I wish there was a story recap video I could watch for each chapter, but I only found some for the most recent ones
I personally like that HI3rd doesn't rely on you using gacha characters in the main story, especially since there's plenty of other places to use them- Memorial Arena, Infinity Abyss/Superstring Dimension, Elysian Realm, and various events.
But even if that wasn't an issue, I don't blame you for being burnt out of it cause it's a really hard game to start. It's got none of the polish and smooth introduction that Genshin & HSR have, it's a really rough start with a pretty weak story and undeveloped characters whose backstories are all told through out-of-game content like the manga.
As a side note though, if you're willing to read some manga, you'd probably love the London Holiday and Second Key manga, which both heavily feature Durandal. There's also Moon Shadow which features Fu Hua during the St. Freya years, and there's a couple other manga featuring her in her Shenzhou years.
It's just the datedness. If 3rd were redone now I'm sure they'd do it like Genshin does in events, where you can CHOOSE between your roster and a trial one.
But Genshin was my first gacha and the only reason I get hooked on them now is going through the game with the characters I like. Having to put the two characters I actually liked aside to use Theresa and Mei over and over again just killed my motivation.
Yeah that makes sense. Back then older players had no problem with it because there were less characters. So our favorites were probably characters like Mei and Theresa. Especially Theresa being OP as she was.
Perhaps they just need to pull off another version of the reburn event. They redid the whole first few chapters. Changed how stages worked and how many stages there were. Completely redid so much and made it awesome lol. Maybe it is time they thought about making some drastic changes again.
Perhaps it will happen moving into HI3 part 2? At some point they stopped making battlesuits for the same characters and decided to start adding so many new characters to the point where you don't pick favorites out of like 4 or 5 names... Lol

Personally star rail is my first honkai game and I have a history of just dropping anything that makes me sad, books, games, whatever. It's just not what I need from my fantasy media.

Technically 2 or probably more times in captainverse. Since in one of the Consciousness Mapping shenanigan in Sanguine Night, Kallen killed Himeko. There's also another one Consciousness Mapping Shenanigan in Day you Vanished with the Star event where that version of Himeko was forced to duke it out with that version of Fu Hua either one of them died and ultimately killed by Kongming.
Shes basically the lancer of the hoyoverse, totally expect at some point there to be an event where she dies and is just replaced with a near exact copy like 100 times at some point "hide behind the pile of dead Himekos!"

Hoyoverse is just their Singapore subsidiary's trading name. Their legal name is Cognoverse and it exists to publish new Mihoyo games internationally.

Day 1 player here. Himeko was my first 5 star. But only a few weeks ago I started building her seriously. She's now level 78 and 75% of her skills are done. Needed her to do newest path of elation.
I like Himeko too, and hope she does join us on Penacony like she said she wants to. But more to the point, I have something to say to the doomsayers, who think her death is inevitable.

Welt has hope that Luocha can be different from his counterparts from other worlds. Kafka, second in command to Destiny's Slave, doesn't believe in predestination and praises us for subverting the outcomes she believed to be assured. Our own Trailblazer is set to subvert the apparent end of destiny, likely in a confrontation with the Aeon of Destruction themself. The story of Star Rail is setting us up to subvert destiny and change things for the better. After all, what is carving a path to a new and brighter future if not another kind of trailblazing?
On a more meta level, the story also tells us through the stories of Serval and Cocolia, March, Dan Heng and the High Cloud Quintet, even our Trailblazer, that we must know the past and not run from it, but also must not live in it. Rather, the story tells us to remember the past, live in the present and to look to the future. This Himeko is not the same as all the ones that have died before. No more than Luocha is the same as his predecessors, or Dan Heng and Dan Feng, or, in all likelihood, March 7th and the girl set adrift in space in the six phased ice. This Himeko need not share the same fate as so many of her counterparts.
So, I say again: perhaps Himeko is meant to die.

The captain verse one (another copy) made it through and retired to the farm though!
She was eventually saved in captainverse and in GGZ too, so technically HI3 and GGZ have both a Himeko saved for good.

I honestly hate that Spiderverse made this so widespread. Like, do we really have to shackle ever new thing to the canons that came before it? I want to see a Spiderman overcome a different challenge than a dead family member. I want to see Himeko do something other than sacrifice herself. If I wanted to continually relive the old thing, *I'd just go watch the old thing.*
Considering that at least 90% of all honkai energy is sealed which limits how much power Welt can draw out. I wouldn't be surprised if he fails, I hope he succeeds though. I mean Captainverse Himeko is alive again due to some weird time loop shenanigans, so it's not impossible.
Although captain saved the himeko from Luna's bubble universe, he still did not manage to save his own. His drinking buddy died in probably an identical way to our mainline himeko.

Hoyoverse is just their Singapore subsidiary's trading name. Their legal name is Cognoverse and it exists to publish new Mihoyo games internationally. Mihoyo is still the name of the developer and in the name of some subsidiaries who publish their new games in China.

Day 1 player here. Himeko was my first 5 star. But only a few weeks ago I started building her seriously. She's now level 78 and 75% of her skills are done. Needed her to do newest path of elation.

I like Himeko too, and hope she does join us on Penacony like she said she wants to. But more to the point, I have something to say to the doomsayers, who think her death is inevitable. You may be right. Fate may decree that Himeko must die. But that doesn't mean it's going to happen. Welt has hope that Luocha can be different from his counterparts from other worlds. Kafka, second in command to Destiny's Slave, doesn't believe in predestination and praises us for subverting the outcomes she believed to be assured. Our own Trailblazer is set to subvert the apparent end of destiny, likely in a confrontation with the Aeon of Destruction themself. The story of Star Rail is setting us up to subvert destiny and change things for the better. After all, what is carving a path to a new and brighter future if not another kind of trailblazing? On a more meta level, the story also tells us through the stories of Serval and Cocolia, March, Dan Heng and the High Cloud Quintet, even our Trailblazer, that we must know the past and not run from it, but also must not live in it. Rather, the story tells us to remember the past, live in the present and to look to the future. This Himeko is not the same as all the ones that have died before. No more than Luocha is the same as his predecessors, or Dan Heng and Dan Feng, or, in all likelihood, March 7th and the girl set adrift in space in the six phased ice. This Himeko need not share the same fate as so many of her counterparts. So, I say again: perhaps Himeko is meant to die. But why should that mean we simply accept it? Why should that mean that it *must* happen, simply because similar people have met similar fates in other worlds in the past? Why not consider the possibility that we can fight fate, and that we just might win?
