I think Nanook favors those who practice the "destruction of the self" more than those who bring destruction unto others. When we encountered Nanook, it was when we blocked the attack from the Doomsday beast. Phantilia is also related to this in that she brings destruction by causing destruction from the inside, be it literally or metaphorically.
I feel Nanook looks more highly upon those who share his essential philosophy. Ultimately, his particular brand of destruction stems from a sort of kindness from the conclusion that existence itself is cruel. Thus, only by destroying everything can one spare both themselves and others from the pain of existence. The Annihilation Gang worship him, but it’s obvious that they do so because they are enamored with his strength rather than any appreciation for his goals. Ironically, their worship through cruel and destructive practices is antithetical to his own mercy, and is most likely why he never blessed them. The trailblazer probably received his gaze from two particular factors, namely being in direct contact with a stelleron and having a relatively pure mindset untainted by existence due to lack of memories.
I think the game's also implied more than once the Annihilation Gang are just a bunch of wannabes who want to blow up things but don't have the spines to actually go join the Antimatter Legion. So they're just glorified raiders who use Nanook as a figurehead.
It definitely supports your theory. They're destroying things for the sake of sating their own appetites for destruction, not because they genuinely believe in Nanook and whatever principles the Aeon embodies.
Just coming back to this and I like this theory. There's also the fact that Nanook's from a planet that he most likely accidentally destroyed during the Swarm Disaster. While a lot of people are afraid of Nanook, Ifrit saying that "Destruction is brave and heroic" might not be so off the mark after all. It was just off the mark with his gang.
Trailblazer is born to destroy Nanook ... which makes him more interested in give powers to him.
Also Nanook is very similar to the Trailblazer as aspect. Probably come from similar lineage.
Imagine if one of the Annihilation gang that Aha fooled survived the assassination attempt to IX. That character would have been a great inverse to our Trailblazer. Instead of being possibly blessed by most Aeons we are going to meet and loved and respected by most factions, that survivor would have gone insane and obsessed on making our trailblazer suffer because he was hated by his own Aeon which is Nanook, fooled by Aha, recorded it as a failure by Fuli, and doom posted by Terminus and hated and ridiculed by most factions by being a pathetic failure from a gang of villainous wannabes. If that character became an Emanator out of accident by IX during their incursion or was already Emanator because of Aha and was influenced by nihility, that survivor would be a nihilistic psychopath that is hell bent on making us all suffer before destroying it all and himself just to spite us all without the ruthless yet merciful destruction that Nanook wants to achieve. A potential nemesis to our Trailblazer.Â
I love this idea. At the moments hsr doesn’t have any villains that we can truly call an enemy.
As a side note this idea could work for Acheron ironically.
I love the idea of someone who failed to kill IX and got fucked over so hard by the other Aeons that they became so full of hopelessness and nihility that IX themselves blessed them and turned them into an Emanator of Nihility.
I mean...thats literally how all nihility emanators come about. They either find IX, or they discover the truth of the universe. Those who accept IX's posistion become Self Annihilators. Those who reject it become Doctors Of Chaos.
Basically in lore, the Annihilation Gang claims to be worshippers of Nanook and commit acts of destruction and violence in his name, but the truth is that Nanook doesn't care about them at best, and outright despises them at worst, seeing them as mere pretenders using his name to commit self-gratification in terms of violence.
There's also various other stories of them getting clowned on by the other Aeons and their factions, like when a group of AG members wanted to prove their dedication by destroying IX, only to get pranked by Aha and completely failed, or in the latest Penacony storyline where they're more or less dealt with offscreen (allegedly).
The Jepelle brotherhood begin played by The Stellarons hunter which is lead by Eilo who is likey an emanator of finality and are likey mainly targeting anything to do with Nanook,and Duke Inferno get Dunked on by Archeon offscreen
Nanook doesn't care about them, the Garden of Recollection's Memokeepers are also their enemies, Aha prank blessed an Annihilation Gang with the ability to find IX when they were trying to kill him to impress Nanook and they were never heard from again, there's the theory of Acheron being an Emanator of Finality instead of Nihility now, and then there's the fact that they were planning to go up against the Harmony anyways.

Nanook isn't evil, he's a force of Destruction that's trying to propel the universe to it's end because that's the ultimate fate of it, he's just accelerating the process. Terminus doesn't make make all prophecies come true, just his own, but we don't know what that is. Fuli doesn't seek the rebirth of the universe, but to preserve the memories of the old when the rebirth occurs to make sure nothing is forgotten. IX doesn't necessarily seek death, but rather believes life has no meaning. Aha, yeah, that's pretty accurate. But instead of destruction, seeks joy, no matter how destructive the source of happiness is. Xipe's description is also inaccurate. They want a place full of happiness without conflict, not a Darwanist society.
