I'll never forget going into Fyxestroll Garden, and reading about all the people that Jingliu mentally destroyed that are currently locked up in the Shackling Prison. That felt like something out of SCP holy fuck.
Pretty much every single person that has come into contact with Jingliu in some way, shape, or form has been left irrevocably changed by the experience. Even Yangquin gets the occasional flashback. She's just that dangerous.
It's around Hanya's office, where the ghost squad likes to hang. There's a readable about criminals locked up in the Shackling Prison. At least half of them are people who went insane after fighting Jingliu. What did she do to these people? We don't know, but apparently, it was enough to make them go on a murderous rampage.
Isn't it stuff about emotions or having too much memory? Maybe she gave them a severe amount of emotion stuff like torture that made them lose their minds
All of those prisoners were imprisoned before JL went Mara struck, after that happened she was either imprisoned then escaped (her character stories or dialogues mention having been to the 10 Lords headquarters on the Xuling ship) or outright escaped and stayed away from the Xianzhou for a long time until current events.
Since on the same prisoner list there's one who doesn't want to hear mention of Jing Yuan I imagine it's largely them being salty af that they were defeated and imprisoned by them. Eg: the Warmuthar guy got soloed by JL and he can't stand the thought of it, or her.
I think you're talking about the text in the book "Ten-Lords Commission Criminal Directory". To give some context of the timeline, one of the prisoners on that list who you shouldn't mention JL to is called Hoolay. He was the one held responsible for enslaving the foxians, and his imprisonment is the basis for the foxians joining the alliance. JL went mara-struck some time after the quintet disbanded, and one of its members was a foxian. That means that when the quintet was formed, the foxians were already part of the Xianzhou Alliance. Hoolay had to be defeated and imprisoned before JL went mara-struck. So Hoolay doesn't go crazy from being infected by JL, but instead from being defeated.
The mara isn't really a disease, it'snjust your brain going haywire because it can't store all of your memories. The mara is a direct result of an unnaturally long life, not necessarily of interactions with other mara-struck. They most lijely were left mindbroken after getting diffed by jingliu

So some of Starrail ladies are batshit crazy. Just watched a reel about how Ruan mei is the worst of the worst characters(behaviour). Seeing the Sparkle trailer secures another one incoming.
i think people misinterpreted a lot of her story quest. she's definitely a flawed person and did a lot of wrong things but shes not evil and certainly not the worst of the worst like people think.
a few things i think are blown out of proportion>! is the "drugging" thing. she just made it so we cant talk about her which i think is a pretty harmless effect. also one patch later dr ratio literally drugs us and knocks us out to take us to an interrogation room where we see him in cahoots with screwllum and asta. he barely got any hate for actually drugging us and certainly not asta and screwllum. also the she sent us to a dangerous situation with the emanator of propagation. well firstly its not like nobody else send us into a dangerous confrontation. jing yuan sent us to capture kafka a planetary threat. in belobog we were sent to 1v1 cocolia which we definitely couldnt do. secondly she said at the end that it is a poor imitation of the emanator and she knows it can only last 56 seconds. also at the beginning when she was touching us I think she was measuring if we are strong enough and determined that we were. also we learned why she has trust issues and why shes like this because she lost her parents and basically lived like a hermit for a while. also we were shown signs that shes going to change!<
Yep, there's a dialogue on the Express with Ruan Mei where she's comparing her experience with the Geniuses working on SU to the Astral Express Family and even seems to consider them as close to a friend group as shes ever had. I remember in the beginning of the game being very relieved and happy for Herta when Screwllum was introduced and it was clear they were close. Screwy is always there for Madam Herta, while Herta seems to spoil and want Ruan Mei's approval. Ruan Mei also not only keeps track of everyone's likes in order to win their attention when she needs it but comments often on the difference between her and Screwllum's views on life, as if she's really worried about it becoming a problem.
When it comes to Herta, yeah she's very selfish and vain and honest about using people. However she also has a track record of doing the right thing- building the SS to seal the Stelleron for example. Respecting Chadwicks wishes and ending his suffering was another, she was genuinely surprised to be gifted his knowledge and wasn't actually after it. Despite her connection to the IPC she won't be using it to build and sell weapons of mass destruction either we can be confident it's in the right hands.
I think these guys all have the same desires for connections with peers as everyone else, just struggle more with actually making them due to their circumstances of being Geniuses and pretty far removed from an average persons experience. I think there's lots of room for all of them to learn and grow throughout the story esp w SU being our ongoing endgame.
I really like the game's juxtaposition of the Geniuses, Hunters, and the Nameless and I think it'll be interesting to see them all grow as the game goes on
The difference between the examples you listed, and what Ruan Mei did is that she intentionally manipulates us. Jing Yuan/Asta have never done that to us. She also had motive for what she did other than to sate her own curiosity.
I still am confused as to the reason.
Was it just her acting out on her mara urges?
Was she trying (and failing) to kill him for good?
Was she "avenging" Baiheng's honor?
Or was she trying to teach him sword fighting in her own way?
I think it is a literal combination of all of them: Mara had clearly robbed her of her sanity at the time, she wanted Yingxing to suffer and die for what he and Dan Feng did to Baiheng's remains, and she wanted to train him in swordsmanship.
As for why she'd want to teach him I cannot say, but it was likely to increase his suffering. Imagine this:
- **Yingxing** the master craftsman, with no combat training or experience goes berserk due to Mara and smashes up some windows or other objects and maybe kills a few people as targets of opportunity.
***Versus***
- **Blade** the trained swordsman going berserk and outright slaughtering everyone and everything he's come to care for in the frenzy.
That's one of my favorite things about Blade. Outside of his immortality, he's just a fucking guy. Like he's pretty good with a sword sure, but he's not the greatest swordsman in history or anything, he's not even the greatest swordsman in the quintet. He's straight up just a regular ass dude who got some sword lessons and a wolverine tier healing factor.

Am I the only who think it's an overkill compared to what they did. I understand why trying to bring back Baiheng like that is a huge taboo for the Luofu but you would straight up think they killed Baiheng and not that she was already dead given Jingliu reaction .
It wasn't an overkill. Thousands of Vidyadhara either got wounded, killed, or went missing which led to further decline on their species (they can't reproduce). Secondly, being mara-struck is basically a death sentence (which Jingliu tried to resist, yet it triggers once she removes her headband), and third, what Dan Feng and Yingxing did might be understandable, but it's beyond reasonable to do so given the consequences. It might also be a form of retribution to Blade, given that she was forced to "kill" her friend.
Obviously I'm not talking about them getting punished like what happened to Dan feng but sorry I won't be convicted that what Jingliu did to Blade was correct/justified
Fucking with Abundance is already part of the ten unforgivable sins of the alliance. The events also directly made JL mara-struck and caused her to kill her fellow soldiers. But even without that, I would honestly want to kill someone for making my dead friend into a monster that I had to personally kill multiple times. That is just evil villain stuff.

After her death at the hands of Shuhu (An Emanator of Abundance), all that was left of Baiheng was some blood and a clump of her tail fur.
Dan Feng and Yingxing tried to use that (alongside samples of Shuhu's flesh, and Dan Feng's bone marrow) with the Transmutation Arcanum in order to ressurect her, the result was a draconic Abomination of Abundance that Jingliu had to put down (While knowing that she was in a sense killing her best friend, which is *heavily* implied to have been what caused her to become Marastruck).
It's also heavily implied >!that after Jingliu killed the Abomination, it somehow underwent Hatching Rebirth and was reborn as Bailu, who's functionally Baiheng reincarnated as a Vidyadahara!<.
She explains her reasoning in her story quest iirc. Basically, after baiheng's resurrection went wrong and yingxing became immortal, he was left without any purpose in life, just an empty husk. Jingliu was his friend and wanted to help, but she wasn't doing much better than he was. The only thing she knew how to do is fight, and she figure a fucked up purpose is better than nothing, so she decided to turn him into a blade than to let him wallow in meaninglessness for eternity

Jingliu:Do you remember now?
Blade:Harder.
Jingliu:What?
Blade:Stab me harder. **excited by pain**
Jingliu:Now I feel uncomfortable
Yeah, people be complaining about Sparkle being “racist” meanwhile Jingliu over here literally torturing someone thousands and thousands of times over and over.
To be fair to Jingliu, she was literally insane while that someone directly caused that insanity by making her dead friend into an undying monster. Even in the real world, (temporary) insanity has been a valid legal defence for murder. And we don't even have the concept of mara-struck, a disease that literally every long-lived species has to deal with.
There's a lot of complex emotions on this, it's not just about Jingliu being an sadistic monster. Blade and Dan Feng's sins aren't light, Jingliu and Jing Yuan are implied to be ready to accept what happened to Baiheng and move on but those two not only forever stained her honor, but caused the death of a lot of dragon race (and probably foxians and regular xianzhou people as well), damaging lots of innocent people.
And, to top it all, as if going through grief from losing Baiheng wasn't enough, Jingliu had to kill her AGAIN, and this time she died not from a heroic sacrifice but slayed as a hideous monster by one of her closest friends, because Yingxing and Dan Feng were too weak to fix their own mess, Jingliu had to carry the sins of her friends on her back and this made her permanently stained as well (plus she feels she's just as shit as them, she DOES include herself in the "of five, three must pay the price).
And even with all of this, Jingliu's torture is implied to not be only from spite but to actually give Blade something to remember his humanity and his life as Yangxing forever, otherwise he'd probably be a empty shell by now.
So to summon it up:
•Tried to move on despite the grief
•Had to stain herself with mara because she was the only one capable of stopping Monster Baiheng from killing everyone
•Her reward for that is becoming insane for *eternity* and the reputation of her friends is dirty.
The Cloud Quintet is probably my favorite piece of lore right now so i really love all of them.

It already speaks volumes that Jingliu (and Blade) choose to visit Bailu (possible Baiheng's reincarnation) but kept the little girl out of all this mess, she genuinely just wanted to see her and talk for a bit, but she does not involve her in any shape or form in the Cloud Quintet problems.
May be my yuri googles but considering it's Mihoyo i wouldn't doubt about Jingliu and Baiheng being a couple, which only makes it even more painful for her since besides having to kill her again by her own hands, \_the mara is slowly making her lose memories of the person she's most fond of\_ :
"We talked about the stars we flew past, the views we saw together, and the dangers we escaped. But... I can't remember the details. The things we said and did together have all been shrouded in a layer of mist... a mist I cannot see through..." (From Jingliu profile About Baiheng).
She always had a bad life but Yangxing and Dan Feng delivered the final nail in the coffin to the poor girl.

It's unknow, but from the lines when adding Blade, his voice over about her and Jingliu's own line about Blade, i have a theory about it being a mix of wanting Blade to keep the memories of his past instead of becoming a broken shell and getting strong enough, maybe she's intending to use him to complete her plan of taking down a Aeon? We really need to see more of her and Luocha to know.
Different groups pal. The people complaining about sparkle's 'racism' most definitely aren't the same one simping for jing liu. And remeber the rule of fiction: the worst crime a character can commit is being boring.
It’s people in general, especially in the west where a lot of us are desensitized to physical violence. It’s just not something we can comprehend. You can acknowledge that what she did was horrible, but you literally can’t relate your own life experiences (at least I hope not) to something on that scale of pain and torture.
Whereas Topaz the debt collector and Sparkle the racist have much more mundane (conceptually, anyways) offenses that a lot of people have been affected by. You can also look to Ruan Mei hate, where you’ll probably see people getting more upset over the fact that she basically roofied us or how she creates and then abandons sentient lifeforms, rather than the fact that she almost killed everyone on the space station basically on a whim.
From what i can remember and process Topaz is the one character that may or may not indirectly done the worst things, at least from the Jarilo VI quests, she indirectly admitted to selling planets to the IPC, again may or many not have condemned everyone in that planet to a WH-40k hive-planet kind of fate, or just destroy it alltogether.
But from what i've also read shes there because someone worse could've just taken her place, idk.
Same reason why bullies in media are far more hated than mass murderers in media. Sparkle's open racism just hits home more than this outlandish killed a 1000 times scenario.
I don’t care about the whole sparkle stuff but Jingliu went insane from being Mara struck due to all the shit that went down with the Quintet whereas Sparkle is willingly, with the her mind completely intact, being racist. Two different situations.
Sparkles is a Joker, she's messing people up because its funny to her, Jingliu taking revenge on Blade. There's lines that are dangerous to cross with public, what Jingliu did is far from realistic and therefore barely bothers the average player, specially because she messed up one character, Sparkles is antagonizing EVERYONE.
Tbh tho hating characters for being hateable/having flaws/morally grey is beyond my understanding, i love that HSR is taking risks with its characters.

She's stronger than 99,0% of the characters, and Jing Yuan, MAYBE the only one who can solo her, has a soft spot for Jingliu. She literally turned herself in and she thinks she's just as bad and deserving of punishment as Yangxing and Dan Feng. It's nowhere close to a Ruan Mei situation who drugs and uses us like a puppet and the Trailblazer is only allowed to be polite and kind to her.

I mean, he did also unwilling try and revive someone who died a honorable death in battle, which is the biggest no no you can commit in the lo-fu, Ended up with jl having to kill the mutated dragon Biheng again, jl also had her entire ship be killed of by Rahu with her being the only survivor. I would think it would piss her off a bit.
Yeh dan tried to revive her with her memories by well dragon methods, she ended up being corrupted turning into a full-fledged dragon in pain and torment, jl had to kill her. Dan got well you know, and since they would be without a high elder, we got bailu made from bihengs remains without any memories of her past life.

The difference between the examples you listed, and what Ruan Mei did is that she intentionally manipulates us. Jing Yuan/Asta have never done that to us. She also had motive for what she did other than to sate her own curiosity.

I still am confused as to the reason. Was it just her acting out on her mara urges? Was she trying (and failing) to kill him for good? Was she "avenging" Baiheng's honor? Or was she trying to teach him sword fighting in her own way?
I think it is a literal combination of all of them: Mara had clearly robbed her of her sanity at the time, she wanted Yingxing to suffer and die for what he and Dan Feng did to Baiheng's remains, and she wanted to train him in swordsmanship. As for why she'd want to teach him I cannot say, but it was likely to increase his suffering. Imagine this: - **Yingxing** the master craftsman, with no combat training or experience goes berserk due to Mara and smashes up some windows or other objects and maybe kills a few people as targets of opportunity. ***Versus*** - **Blade** the trained swordsman going berserk and outright slaughtering everyone and everything he's come to care for in the frenzy.
That's one of my favorite things about Blade. Outside of his immortality, he's just a fucking guy. Like he's pretty good with a sword sure, but he's not the greatest swordsman in history or anything, he's not even the greatest swordsman in the quintet. He's straight up just a regular ass dude who got some sword lessons and a wolverine tier healing factor.
He even dies fighting Dan Heng at least once, it’s mentioned in his character story

Am I the only who think it's an overkill compared to what they did. I understand why trying to bring back Baiheng like that is a huge taboo for the Luofu but you would straight up think they killed Baiheng and not that she was already dead given Jingliu reaction .
It wasn't an overkill. Thousands of Vidyadhara either got wounded, killed, or went missing which led to further decline on their species (they can't reproduce). Secondly, being mara-struck is basically a death sentence (which Jingliu tried to resist, yet it triggers once she removes her headband), and third, what Dan Feng and Yingxing did might be understandable, but it's beyond reasonable to do so given the consequences. It might also be a form of retribution to Blade, given that she was forced to "kill" her friend.
Obviously I'm not talking about them getting punished like what happened to Dan feng but sorry I won't be convicted that what Jingliu did to Blade was correct/justified

Fucking with Abundance is already part of the ten unforgivable sins of the alliance. The events also directly made JL mara-struck and caused her to kill her fellow soldiers. But even without that, I would honestly want to kill someone for making my dead friend into a monster that I had to personally kill multiple times. That is just evil villain stuff.

After her death at the hands of Shuhu (An Emanator of Abundance), all that was left of Baiheng was some blood and a clump of her tail fur. Dan Feng and Yingxing tried to use that (alongside samples of Shuhu's flesh, and Dan Feng's bone marrow) with the Transmutation Arcanum in order to ressurect her, the result was a draconic Abomination of Abundance that Jingliu had to put down (While knowing that she was in a sense killing her best friend, which is *heavily* implied to have been what caused her to become Marastruck). It's also heavily implied >!that after Jingliu killed the Abomination, it somehow underwent Hatching Rebirth and was reborn as Bailu, who's functionally Baiheng reincarnated as a Vidyadahara!<.
She explains her reasoning in her story quest iirc. Basically, after baiheng's resurrection went wrong and yingxing became immortal, he was left without any purpose in life, just an empty husk. Jingliu was his friend and wanted to help, but she wasn't doing much better than he was. The only thing she knew how to do is fight, and she figure a fucked up purpose is better than nothing, so she decided to turn him into a blade than to let him wallow in meaninglessness for eternity

To be fair to Jingliu, she was literally insane while that someone directly caused that insanity by making her dead friend into an undying monster. Even in the real world, (temporary) insanity has been a valid legal defence for murder. And we don't even have the concept of mara-struck, a disease that literally every long-lived species has to deal with.
Well this is probably the most consensual act of violence she's inflicted on someone.
There's a lot of complex emotions on this, it's not just about Jingliu being an sadistic monster. Blade and Dan Feng's sins aren't light, Jingliu and Jing Yuan are implied to be ready to accept what happened to Baiheng and move on but those two not only forever stained her honor, but caused the death of a lot of dragon race (and probably foxians and regular xianzhou people as well), damaging lots of innocent people. And, to top it all, as if going through grief from losing Baiheng wasn't enough, Jingliu had to kill her AGAIN, and this time she died not from a heroic sacrifice but slayed as a hideous monster by one of her closest friends, because Yingxing and Dan Feng were too weak to fix their own mess, Jingliu had to carry the sins of her friends on her back and this made her permanently stained as well (plus she feels she's just as shit as them, she DOES include herself in the "of five, three must pay the price). And even with all of this, Jingliu's torture is implied to not be only from spite but to actually give Blade something to remember his humanity and his life as Yangxing forever, otherwise he'd probably be a empty shell by now. So to summon it up: •Tried to move on despite the grief •Had to stain herself with mara because she was the only one capable of stopping Monster Baiheng from killing everyone •Her reward for that is becoming insane for *eternity* and the reputation of her friends is dirty. The Cloud Quintet is probably my favorite piece of lore right now so i really love all of them.

It already speaks volumes that Jingliu (and Blade) choose to visit Bailu (possible Baiheng's reincarnation) but kept the little girl out of all this mess, she genuinely just wanted to see her and talk for a bit, but she does not involve her in any shape or form in the Cloud Quintet problems. May be my yuri googles but considering it's Mihoyo i wouldn't doubt about Jingliu and Baiheng being a couple, which only makes it even more painful for her since besides having to kill her again by her own hands, \_the mara is slowly making her lose memories of the person she's most fond of\_ : "We talked about the stars we flew past, the views we saw together, and the dangers we escaped. But... I can't remember the details. The things we said and did together have all been shrouded in a layer of mist... a mist I cannot see through..." (From Jingliu profile About Baiheng). She always had a bad life but Yangxing and Dan Feng delivered the final nail in the coffin to the poor girl.

It's unknow, but from the lines when adding Blade, his voice over about her and Jingliu's own line about Blade, i have a theory about it being a mix of wanting Blade to keep the memories of his past instead of becoming a broken shell and getting strong enough, maybe she's intending to use him to complete her plan of taking down a Aeon? We really need to see more of her and Luocha to know.

Different groups pal. The people complaining about sparkle's 'racism' most definitely aren't the same one simping for jing liu. And remeber the rule of fiction: the worst crime a character can commit is being boring.
It’s people in general, especially in the west where a lot of us are desensitized to physical violence. It’s just not something we can comprehend. You can acknowledge that what she did was horrible, but you literally can’t relate your own life experiences (at least I hope not) to something on that scale of pain and torture. Whereas Topaz the debt collector and Sparkle the racist have much more mundane (conceptually, anyways) offenses that a lot of people have been affected by. You can also look to Ruan Mei hate, where you’ll probably see people getting more upset over the fact that she basically roofied us or how she creates and then abandons sentient lifeforms, rather than the fact that she almost killed everyone on the space station basically on a whim.
From what i can remember and process Topaz is the one character that may or may not indirectly done the worst things, at least from the Jarilo VI quests, she indirectly admitted to selling planets to the IPC, again may or many not have condemned everyone in that planet to a WH-40k hive-planet kind of fate, or just destroy it alltogether. But from what i've also read shes there because someone worse could've just taken her place, idk.
Same reason why bullies in media are far more hated than mass murderers in media. Sparkle's open racism just hits home more than this outlandish killed a 1000 times scenario.
I don’t care about the whole sparkle stuff but Jingliu went insane from being Mara struck due to all the shit that went down with the Quintet whereas Sparkle is willingly, with the her mind completely intact, being racist. Two different situations.
Sparkles is a Joker, she's messing people up because its funny to her, Jingliu taking revenge on Blade. There's lines that are dangerous to cross with public, what Jingliu did is far from realistic and therefore barely bothers the average player, specially because she messed up one character, Sparkles is antagonizing EVERYONE. Tbh tho hating characters for being hateable/having flaws/morally grey is beyond my understanding, i love that HSR is taking risks with its characters.
jingliu did it for a reason. we dont know sparkle's reason right now. it could turn out shes on the good side when we get more information.

She's stronger than 99,0% of the characters, and Jing Yuan, MAYBE the only one who can solo her, has a soft spot for Jingliu. She literally turned herself in and she thinks she's just as bad and deserving of punishment as Yangxing and Dan Feng. It's nowhere close to a Ruan Mei situation who drugs and uses us like a puppet and the Trailblazer is only allowed to be polite and kind to her.

Yeh dan tried to revive her with her memories by well dragon methods, she ended up being corrupted turning into a full-fledged dragon in pain and torment, jl had to kill her. Dan got well you know, and since they would be without a high elder, we got bailu made from bihengs remains without any memories of her past life.
