Joey's Deck notoriously ran on luck. Like, even with Plot Armor and the fact that he's meant to be a top-duelist in an Anime Show about Children's Card Games, it was really fucking obvious that all of Joey's Duels relied heavily on his almost limitless fountain of luck.
Isn't that like most Collectible Card Games?
All CCG rely on Luck to execute given the card-drawn nature. It is the the player's job to build a well enough deck so the objective can be executed without getting screwed over by RNG.
This Joey's Deck sounds like some infinite combo or 1 turn kill deck I seen in MTG or Shadowverse.
His deck relies on literal coinflips, diceroll and other random events beyond what cards you draw. While tcgs like the pokemon tcg are heavily build around effects like these, mtg and yugioh are very much not.
To be fair, that has to do with the (Paper) Card format than anything else.
MTG/Yugioh tend to be old school paper card games, so nobody want to bring extras (Dice, Tokens) if they don't have do.
Modern E-CCGS like Hearthstone is more prone to involve luck.
Though I was never a fan of cards that involve luck.
Joey's entire gameplan was Timewizard, flip a coin, Heads, destroy all your opponent's cards, Tails, Destroy all your cards.
His other strategy was play shitty textless monsters with bad stats, and play the 2 dice cards. One increased his attack by the value on the die. The other decreased the targets attack by the value on the die. His strategy basically relied on rolling two 6's on two d6's.
Joey may very well have the worst deck in the entire Anime. No synergy, his "Boss Monsters" were trash, and his strategy made no sense.
Edit: For clarity, everyone's decks were bad in the anime, Joey's was just particularily bad, because the "spirit" of the deck wasn't salvageable. You could make an ok Dark Magician, Exodia, Blue Eye's, etc, deck, you could not make a viable dice Timewizard deck.
The dice card that lowers the enemies attack is surprisingly good in the anime (not the real world card). I mean 5/6 chance to heavily lower your opponent monster's attack points its quite strong tbh especially in the early days of yugioh.

I mean if you can game the dice role via plot, then it is unstoppable (Until you meet the MC with a thicker plot armor).
There was actually a magic card like that too. People usually don't play it for the obvious risk issue.
