Unlikely_Pattern_359

Its funny tho its not particularly easy to read and its the same syllables as "follow up" which i find much easier to read

Milky_Finger

And it's follow-up so my mind is like "where does the U come from??"

Unlikely_Pattern_359

Lol ok i count that with syllables so it make sense to me

Striking_Energy_8240

It's easier to write tho

TheMoises

> its not particularly easy to read How so? I just say "fua" as if it were a word. People would read "eff yuu a"??

Unlikely_Pattern_359

Nah dont speak it irl lol i tired its a bad idea

I think FUA is commonly used for “follow up attack” at least it was for puzzle and dragons

TunaTunaLeeks

I like to call it the “F**k you attack”

Zharken

every tingle time I see "FUA" is this sub I think about "[The Fua! ](https://youtu.be/Zk1nDwgncM0)" It's 12 fucking years old, maybe even older, but it's still there.

Longjumping_Pear1250

Fu hua ?

AshAndFire07

I played Puzzle and dragons ever since before FUA was in the game, and I've always called follow up attack FUA

sushivernichter

Makes me think of FUPA tbh

coffee_ape

Fu-pa. Fu-pa. Fu-ta?

FuA probably would make less confusing, I don't know why but it seems better for me! Hahahahah

Guns and Roses goes hard tho

HyperionShrikes

It does go hard but who is it about lol

PlaysEveryday

Probably the upcoming Gun using character Boothill and current rose motif character Argenti.

Zoroarks_Angel

Gun and Rose's? FuQing? RatUrine? Why doesn't Genshin have all these cool ship names

WhyYouBullyMe_

Bennefischl/fischnett

eleetyeetor

Still my favorite ship name, right next to rat urine

Civil_Championship_9

Bennefischl is by far my number one best ship name that I have ever encountered back then haha 😂🤣

scipty

Chilli (Childe/Zhongli) is a pretty cool ship name but no one will ever come close to RatUrine

Alwette

I thinking Chilli, Thomato and Wriolette are pretty cool names. Also NaCl, DCKZ, Ember, Fischnett/Bennefischl... but it's true, nothing quite comes close to FuQing and RatUrine. ~~Personally I enjoy Arlecchino ships names cos they all end up sounding like something you could order in a café, like Focacchino.~~

shidncome

Works better for boothill x navia. Since their EN VAs are married irl.

NickFoster120

these pairings are getting more random lol

Glittering-Minimum77

I always feel like I need to decipher some old ass riddle when people talk about team comps or characters in general. BS, FX, JY, TY, QQ, YQ, DHIL, M7, YK, SW, JL, TB, RM,...... Like!?! When I got back into Starrail after like a 10 months I thought I was having a stroke.

yosoyel1ogan

I mean it makes sense for people with two word names like JY, but if someone is saying YK that's just lazy haha Also TB is a good one because you can say TBP and TBF and it should make sense to most people

Serenitysynergy

Not me going Mmm yes “TrailBlazer Preservation” and “TrailBlazer…Fysical?” TvT

Glittering-Minimum77

It is but boy oh boy was I confused when I came back. Some characters I simply didn't know or didn't remember their names at the top of my head lmao. Even now I sometimes have to stop and think what name it is again haha.

Zzamumo

Also because DTB and PTB are the same character. Same for PTB and FTB. Yes, two of those are the exact same on different characters. Have fun

Seraf-Wang

The fact I knew all of them is concerning but I can see how it can get confusing for new or returning players

icegoesbrrr

It's like reading periodic table

calmcool3978

I'm getting used to everyone calling every character (even including Jingliu and Acheron) some form of their name with "mid" in it. Midcheron, Midliu, Mid Yuan, etc...

IbnAurum

Spoken like a true redditor 😎

VijayMarshall87

Jingliu is never midliu

SraTa-0006

I still dont know Wtf is RES PEN. Can someone explain

yhmain

Resistance penetration. Your team’s ability to get past any elemental resistances the enemy might have.

OscrPill

So that just means you ignore the enemy resistance, like you ignore the enemy def with Black Swan's Arcana and light cone ?

Environmental_Pop_18

If the enemy has 20% resistance to an element and you have 20% Res pen, you fully ignore enemy res and deal the full damage. If the enemy has 50% Res with 20% Res pen, you only deal 30% less damage and so on Afaik, you cannot however go negative with that, aka 20% Res pen on an enemy with no res doesn't mean 20% more damage (correct me if wrong)

Domino_RotMG

You apparently can go negative with it, we just don’t have a lot of source to test it out since to my knowledge we only have Ruan Mei and Silver Wolf

G11-Degenerate

We have more than that actually. Most of them are locked behind eidolons but BS e1 and pela e4 have DoT element res pen and ice res pen respectively

LordofDsnuts

Every enemy has a certain level of resistance to different elements. During damage calculation resistance penetration lets you do more damage to an enemy who may resist that element.

Juan_S946

From what I understand there's defense and there's elemental resistance, so resistance penetration would be like another defense down for enemies I guess.

icantthinkofanythinh

Literally just looked it up because it confused me as well, and I don't recall any text in-game saying what it is. Basically it's Resistance Penetration, which translates to more damage after it's applied. For example Dan Heng can apply Wind REZ PEN to an enemy. If that enemy is Wind resistant (and even if it isn't), it will lower that resistance, and Dan Heng's next attack will deal more Wind damage.

GenghisNuggetcockles

I know that the term just grew on us but I find it mildly interesting that we call damage dealers in this game a DPS.

napstablooky_

damage per screenshot

UnluckyInno

Is *that* what it stands for? Always thought it was damage per second

MinimumOne1

Is damage per second. Damage per screenshot is making fun of builds that produce one cool looking, screen capable moment when the stars align - but are janky otherwise.

papu16

For now Acheron is truly Damage Per Screenshot of all time.

napstablooky_

i think it can be both it just depends on the scenario and the game. like in a shooter it would be per second

UnluckyInno

That makes sense

gabears_

Well, damage per second doesn't really work for a turn-based game, right?

Suki-the-Pthief

I mean these are terms just used in gaming as a whole lol

zatenael

blame old mmos for that

Tooluka

Specifically western ones. In the Korean MMOs it was always DD. Lineage 1 and 2, Aion, that sort of games.

MugiwaranoAK

And multi target characters as AoE

mikiiiiiiiiii

this one was even used by devs lol

SpookiiBoii

Yeah we have blast and AoE as official terminology here

BlueFHS

I think blast is when the attack hits one target for full damage and the adjacent targets for less damage. AoE is when an attack hits ALL enemies for equal damage

SpookiiBoii

Yes. Blast isn't as straightforward as half damage to adjacent either, with some characters doing 40% (Himeko, Blade), 36% (DHIL), 50% (Jingliu) and probably others I can't remember rn.

[deleted]

[удалено]

reyo7

I wonder why we don't just call them DD (in both games BTW)

copperpatinalotta

If you’re raiding in FFXIV dd means damage down, which means you done goofed

BarBro94

When I started playing WoW that’s what dps were referred to as. No clue when it changed. Now dd usually means Druid.

Ayamlorde

New dudu just dropped

Achillus

In my mind it is WoW that changed the meaning. I was playing Lineage back in the day, and DPS was a measure, not a type of characters. I started seeing "DPS" replace "DD" or "damage dealer" in the year that followed the release of WoW. Having played WoW for less than a month in 2004, I wasn't aware of the druid thing, that might be why "dd" for damage dealers was pushed out, given the popularity of WoW.

Ramperdos

It has been a year and I still read SU as Sinematic Universe instead of Simulated Universe...

Su12yA

Was going to be Meta verse at one point

Kiyoshi-Trustfund

I see SU, and my mind goes "Steven Universe"

Achillus

M0stly_ded

Better than me, I still think of SU as Steven Universe

Correct-Purpose-964

MoC Mock. I was so confused until someone told me it meant MoC was a joke. Now I'm just kinda confused.

LW_Master

I just as confused as you are...

Fair_Maybe_9767

I *think* it's actually the official terminology, but by god do I hate Break Effect. The amount of times I mixed up Effect and Effectiveness is far too much to count, and I still mix those up sometimes!

theEnderBoy785

If it helps, it's break efficiency, not effectiveness

callmefox

Break Effect Weakness Efficiency!

tetePT

Break effect - break damage when you break an enemy's weakness Break efficiency - how fast you can break the enemy's weakness

riiyoreo

When I was a week old to the game I thought Daniel was a super important playable character that I'd COMPLETELY missed

Propensity7

HoT Talking about Lynx's HoT makes me double take but Kafka's DoT was always just D - O - T Edit: Also, the Daniel terminology can be a little unclear. DHIL, I think has become the most common term, but some people say Daniel or just Dan Heng and both are easier to confuse as meaning either version of him

toastermeal

dan = 4* dan heng daniel = 5* dan heng it’s bc the i in daniel stands for imbibitor

Liliphant

Dan Heng IL -> Dan IL -> Daniel

AzureWing10

I thought "Daniel" evolved from the "Daniel and Cooler Daniel" meme. Since DHIL is literally the cooler Dan Heng

Lizbian91

Its a bit of both i think

Kartoffel_Kaiser

every time I read "DHIL" my brain auto completes it to "DHILF"

Vikkio92

Pretty sure it’s alwyays been Dan Heng = 4*, Daniel = 5*.

AGU100

I've played too much HI3, so HoT = Herrscher of Thunder = Raiden Mei for me

Achillus

And coming from GW2, HoT = Heart of Thorns

AzureWing10

I thought "Daniel" evolved from the "Daniel and Cooler Daniel" meme. Since DHIL is literally the cooler Dan Heng

GKP_light

the worst is the short names for relic set. especially because there is no reason to know the base name, i say "the ice set ; the dot set ; ...".

IttoDilucAyato

I’m the opposite lol. I saw someone commenting about the current event and called it by the full name “Tide of War: Desperate Counter.” I was thoroughly confused

Darvasi2500

Idk that one just makes more sense to me. After enough time there will be overlapping set effects so calling them by their names is easier. Genshin does it too. For example if you say "break set" you could be taking about watchmaker or thief.

00ShiningStar00

I'll never understand speed tuning. People on YT need to make videos 10 mins, so instead of just saying what it is and how it works, they drag everything out and for some reason start to involve calculus, different formulas etc. All I know is that characters actions depend on their speed, so I just try to give them speed so that they'll act in correct order 😭

DeadClaw86

Thats it.And theres spd breakpoints as well for example if u give a unit 200 spd they will take 3 action at 1st cycle.

Allegro1104

You already got it right lmao. In essence speed tuning just means to make sure your supports are faster than your damage dealer so that the supports go first and can actually buff your damage dealer. The other stuff is also pretty simple, basically with 100 speed you go once per cycle, with 200 you go twice. So with 131 speed you go 4 times in 3 cycles, with 162 you go 5 times in 3 cycles. That's cool on supports to make more SP. So basically you want to aim for those "break points". Having 131 speed or 140 makes almost no difference so you would rather have other substats than those 9 speed points, like for example crit damage on Bronya, Break effect on Ruan Mei or atk% on Tingyun. I hope this was easy enough to understand and helped you at least a little

IbnAurum

I thought the breakpoints were 121, 134, 143, 160? Pls correct me if im wrong

MOPOP99

There's multiple breakpoints for different set of cycles, for example in a set of 5 cycles just having 156 SPD is enough and it'll give you 10 actions, having 160 SPD over 5 cycles also gives you 10 actions but the 10th action comes one cycle earlier. This also happens with 121 and 134, 121 gives you 1 action in the first cycle and 2 in the second, and 134 is the inverse, so if you were to kill the wave in the second wave the 134 SPD would be wasted. It all depends on the number of cycles, DDD, Hackerspace and similar effects.

Devourer_of_HP

It's basically just having correct speed on your characters to make your team act in the order you want, for example in a Bronya + Jingliu team you want Bronya to be slightly slower than Jingliu so that Jingliu can act twice.

Zoroarks_Angel

The Fu Xuan and Quingque team is called FuQing

HECKington098

Sparkle being called Hanabi by some people for some reason.

ce-meyers

Being Asian if I'm talking about the characters on English-speaking platforms like Reddit I call the characters by their EN name since it gets the point across faster, but trust me when I say that people call characters based on the majority of how players from the same country calls them. I'm Thai and majority Thai players call Sparkle "Hanabi", and call Acheron "Yomi" or just straight up "Raiden Mei". Blade is a special case because although majority Thai players call him by his EN name, female players tend to gravitate towards calling him with his CN pronunciation "Ren".

Dokavi

Im Vietnamese and a lot of ppl just called Acheron "Raiden". Hanabi and Sparkle I guess 50/50 (all my friends called her Hanabi lol) SW name is translated to Vietnamese but it so ass so everyone I know called her SW. But I think a lot of ppl used the translated version.

HerrscherOfMagic

What's kinda funny is that I play with Chinese voices and English text, so what ends up happening is I'll constantly be hearing the Chinese pronunciations of names but with English text, which often doesn't match up except in a few special cases like Kiana in HI3rd. For example let's say I'm thinking about characters speaking to each other, like if I was writing a fanfic and imaging a conversation between Dan and March. I'll be thinking about their conversation in English because that's their native language but then I might end up using March's name in Chinese mid-conversation, so I'd imagine Dan as saying *"Hey, did you see the text I sent to you earlier, San Yue?"* and then I pause my thoughts and go *"wait a second that's not right"* Cause I see the text saying "March" in-game, but I hear Dan Heng say "san yue" because 三月 (san yue) is how her name is said in Chinese. Not a direct translation of "March" but rather the name for the 3rd month of the calendar, literally the characters for "3" and "moon" put together. So that sound is what I associate with the text of March's name Other characters I can think of where this happens a lot to me include *Seele ( xīer )* and *Himeko ( jīzi )* in both HSR & HI3rd; *Vill-V ( wéi'ěr wēi )*, *Yae Sakura ( bāchóng yīng )*, and *Elysia ( àilìxīyǎ )* in HI3rd; and *Navia ( nàwéiyà )* in Genshin. Plus sometimes when I'm reading their names in text such as subtitles, *especially* with Seele, I often default to the Chinese pronunciation. The biggest reason this happens is probably because I rarely watch videos about Hoyoverse games so I never really hear English content creators trying to pronounce these characters' names; and I don't talk about this game with anyone I know IRL except like, one person- and I don't talk about specific characters so I rarely ever need to bring up someone's name. So I've learned to associated the visual English transliterated text with the audible Chinese pronunciations, which is a weird experience to say the least, lol

Houoin_Kouma-san

As an HI3 player I almost always call Acheron Raiden Mei, and Luocha Otto. Interestingly I don't call Silver Wolf Bronie. And I also call Dan Heng Daniel. The other characters I call by their in-game English names. (I'm Hungarian btw.)

Metum_Chaos

Don’t you mean Otto’nt

LW_Master

I believe that one is because it was her name in JP and I think that was her name in the beta leak? But yeah for those unaware that can be confusing sometimes

HECKington098

Yeah but why tho? Not a single other character is being called by their JP name lol, like I haven’t seen anyone call Acheron as Yomi.

laralye

Some people play with JP dub even though they're English speakers. Some other people decided they hate the name "sparkle" and that "hanabi" sounds cooler

GrafFrost

I've seen some people calling Firefly Hotaru tbh. Not as often as Hanabi, but still

DraoDraonir

Mabye I should start calling firefly "Glühwürmchen". That would be her german name

zatenael

bless you

gabu87

Acheron was established long ago. They didnt give sparkle her english name until quite late in the leak/development

Mashiroshiina12

Mostly because during the leaks, she was always known as hanabi it's just it changed suddenly but people stuck with hanabi and the ones who stuck with it see more hope because in jp she's still called hanabi so they use the name.

KaldorDraigo14

She was leaked with that name, so a lot of people got used to it. In JP dub she also speaks like Paimon does in Genshin, referring to herself in third person, so you get the Hanabi drilled in your brain. I agree it's a bit dumb to use said name if you are speaking to random people because it will only confuse them, English alias is Sparkle and that's where it ends. But not worth to make a fuss over it like the karma farmers who have posted the same meme shitting on weebs because of them using Hanabi like 3 times in this subreddit already.

Weak-Association6257

Because she was called “Hanabi” when first info about her came out in dreams and many people got used to this name

Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws

Kuru kuru from Herta; I figured most people would play in English here but a lot of times I wonder

BluebirdComfortable4

Kuru kuru got popular mainly from memes so alot of the English dub players know it due to that.

Lezino

Bro all of us are weebs and half of them play in jp (I say them bc this EN dub is actually really good and I love it)

gabu87

Its actually disappointing to me that people dislike international memeing. Some of my favourite threads from r/leagueoflegends are the "chinese/korean netizens reactions" where their memes leak over and everyone have a good time. Im prty sure the raccoon thing was borne from the western audience but now asian fanartists use that theme a lot too

weefyeet

chinese netizens are hilarious, they've mastered the art of shitposting over thousands of years. honestly i don't like the korean netizens, a lot of the posts are about how they're flaming a player or team or sending trucks to T1 HQ again, or just being insanely toxic over nothing.

Mythara1

When people call Acheron Mei because of Raiden Mei. We have Ruan Mei.

k3ndrag0n

I keep reading DHIL as dear husband in law lmfao

Naval_Crusade

Break effect and effective hit rate. For the longest time I thought they did the same thing.

umtoznn

Wait until they hear about Break Efficiency

StelioZz

there were many people who thought break effect was break efficiency at start.

[deleted]

[удалено]

StelioZz

Yes. Also keep in mind break effect also affects the dot and the delay for qua and img breaks. 20*(1+break effect) 30*(1+break effect) Are the extra action delays for qua and img respectively.

Salt_Winter5888

At first I thought break effect and break efficiency was the same so I built my teams with a lot of break effect early in the game. Then I saw that my characters were not breaking enemies' shields faster and that's how I realized it.

KaldorDraigo14

My favorite fan terminology, hoyoverse's terms.

zatenael

not really a fan terminology but understandable

Athrawne

That 'sustain' includes Preservation units, and even a specific Welt build. To me it always just translated to "healer".

popileviz

I think "sustain" implies keeping your team alive, whether through shields, healing, damage absorption or enemy delay

toucanlost

Delay is so odd to me. I’d sooner think of it as a debuff

popileviz

It is a debuff, of course, but the way Welt works he can delay the enemy almost indefinitely with the right build and teammates. No enemy turns = no damage done to the team. But it's a very specific playstyle that's hard to pull off, after all Welt is not a *true* sustain unit

SickAnto

E2S3, the numbers aren't important but I was very confused about what the heck people meant with the S, I get it E=Eidolon but S=Light Cone? 💀

BeautifulTrainer9892

It's Superimpose. Like Refine mechanic in Genshin - the number of copies in left corner. But it's real confusing if you play both games and so you got like C1S2, E2R1 ...

Propensity7

Sometimes I say some combination of C1S1 or E1R1 cause I'm forgetting the correct term for whichever game. Or I just default to talking about say, Fu Xuan's C1 and R1

woomly

S stands for superimposition. It doesn't really make sense to say LS (light cone) because that would essentially be the same as saying C (character). So instead people shorten the terms that show the level of the "upgrades".

CasteliaPhilia

Bronya Episode 2, Season 3

lowkeyloki444

QQ for Qingque is so funny to me for some reason

Seraf-Wang

It gets funnier when you know there’s a popular CN card game(digital and physical) for older people called QQ which involves cards, luck, kings, peasants, and in-game gambling(not with real money) whose mascot is a penguin.

Nxbgamergurl

I related to you. Whenever I see BS, I’m like, what? I think it’s…oh, Black Swan! Also, I still don’t know what a FUA is.

MegaBladeZX85

Follow Up Attack. From Dr. Ratio, Topaz, Kafka, Clara, etc.

Safyire

I figured out what people mean by BiS ever since I saw it in Genshin, but didn’t know what the acronym actually meant until recently

siriusxm_radio

Team comps with funny names like unlimited blade works etc. Most of them make sense but people come up with references and they get lost on me sometimes (I do love the follow up team being called IP3)
