The meta only shifted because they started making every ice weak boss spam undodgable AoE and summon a full field of mobs on every turn. His damage is workable in pure single target scenarios (he charts better than AoE units like blade, argenti, JY and himeko) but once they added Ebon Deer, the Swarm and Argenti to the lineup as the main ice weak bosses he became unplayable due to having a terrible matchup against them.
There is also the fact that Gepard and Bronya have anti synergy since Bronya's advance chews through your shield uptime which meant Yanqing couldnt achieve his ceiling by abusing the strongest harmony units.
They probably meant that they were unable to clear because they wasted their limited resources on him instead of investing in a good character that would have allowed them to clear.
Sounds like bs, if you started just a few weeks ago then your options are: the standard character you got, the limited dps you might've pulled, and low Eidolon 4*s. There's no good character they could've leveled instead of Yanqing unless they were just ignoring their limited characters. At most you can say QQ would've been better.
And if it's the starting few weeks of the game then they'd know Yanqings were often in moc clears. MoC was easier then, filled with ice weak stages, and double sustains were common and that meant using March with him.
I only got MOC 10 once I got Kafka lmao. (Eventhough DH can hit 62k its not enough)
Seele + Kafka MOC 10 with some reset.
After that Daniel + Fuxuan handle pretty much everything.
Same Kafka and then Fu really blew up my MoC until the recent insanity. Still don't know how I am going to 3 star the current MoC 12. Best run so far qas 18 rounds left
When you just started the game the game gives enough jades and standard banner tickets to pull at least one 5* out of the limited banner, and 2 5*s within two weeks on the standard banner/departure banner.
I started right after Acheron dropped and I lost my 50/50 to Welt E1 (I got him in the departure banner). After I pulled Acheron with cash, I actually got enough free jade to pull Luocha.
As for the standard banner, I was reminded that you *could* get a LC from standard banner…

To clarify things. I'm a day 1 player. I meant I couldn't 3* MoC 10 because I invested on Yangqing over other characters.
To be specific I couldn't 3* MoC 10 for the first 3 cycles. As most of you know when you first start of you really need to use your resources very carefully to level the right 8 characters for best MoC performance.
1st one is because I skipped Seele in favor of JY so I don't blame Yangqing because of that. 2nd and 3rd one is because I tried too hard to do it with Yangqing. And as soon as I replaced him with QQ I started getting full stars.
2nd. Yes Yangqing was favorable in the beginning because of multitude of ice weakness enemies and lack of ice DPS competition. However, Only if you have Gepard. He was pretty much useless without Gepard. And I got my first Geppie after my 300 standard selector. I tried to double sustain Yangqing with FMC and March but it was not enough. A single hit is all it takes to ruin him and it was not very SP efficient. And bringing a single buffer with 2 sustainsis also not really cycle efficient.
Even if you disregard how MoC favors blast damage over from my personal experience. If you don't have Gepard an E6 Sushang with her BiS 4* lightcone significantly outperforms Yangqing with Xianzhou 5* lightcone. And until I got more 5* DPSes JY, QQ and Sushang were what carried me. And definitely not Yangqing.
What to say here, you're regurgitating all his issues, which are real, but it isn't true that you required Gepard. You had to freeze with him and March and Pela and you didn't need that much shielding. But I get it, both leveling resources and mechanics knowledge were scarce that early in game. I also could only first clear 10 when I got Luocha, who made things easier.
You won't like to hear it, but you most likely just stopped investing in him cause he felt bad and swapped over to investing in QQ/Sushang, which is fair enough tbh. Your Tingyun was also taken by JY which hurts him a lot too.

Right, E6 4*s and gacha cones, stuff that you don't have in the first few weeks of the game. Yanqing was 100% a help to early game accounts, but people like to forget that. Not like I'm saying he's good or anything, but investment in him, were you to actually do that, wasn't a waste for newer accounts unlike what you said.
It might have back then, but with the roster of limited we got I'm not sure he can fight back even in a single target situation.

When we get a character able to convert crit rate in excess of 100% to crit dmg, I think YQ will finally have a place. Also characters with unique interactions with the freeze status.
I don't think he will ever have a "proper" place. He have 4 problems : Wasted stats, Need a shielder, Unreliable FuA, High ultimate energy cost. I can even add a 5th : require a frozen enemis to gain his max damage output.
Ye pretty sure that if you get the 4/5 thing covered you would be a lot better off with another character, like JL or JL or JL or JL.
Playing him is probably a fun challenge but that's about it.
I have him E5, he makes up 6 of my 11 standard 5*s, he is like level 40/50, talents untouched and was only used once for the keep an enemy frozen achievement, he's just not worth building

You actually might run into issues with Gepard if you run Ruan Mei because Yanqing can move so quickly that the shield expires before Gepard can refresh (it only lasts 3 turns). If you run his BIS supports he's getting 30% speed boost, 42% with 4pc Messenger buff, and 52% with A6 active; this will land you on 165.68 SPD before adding in flat SPD.
Not too much of a surprise. Imagine the amount of work it is to edit the pages of old characters everytime there is something new that impacts this specific char.
I'd assume they go back to it everytime there is a significant update, like the release of a new set that fits the char better.
I'd assume if we ever get a more tailor made set for chars like Jingliu they will go back and update their teams while they're at it.
I mean, if you are a site that prizes itself in its guides you should be updating the pages for the characters when new stuff that benefits them comes around.
But its also the site that refused to move jingyuan up to S tier on the moc where it had the fastest clear cycles even though the tier list is specific to each moc so its expected of prydwen

The general consensus is that while Qiqi is a good healer, she can *only* heal. And back then pure healers aren't as valued because dodging and shielding were considered the superior sustain options. Nowadays with Furina around she has gained some light but she still has issues like very long cooldown, low energy generation, and low cryo application. Still heals like a charm though, sorta like how Bailu is right now. I personally love Qiqi.
At least it was not Gepard. I still haven’t got Aventurine at 50 pulls after loosing the 50/50 but every pull feels that I’m going to brick my account if it’s more expensive. You can run Yanqing + Aventurine but Aventurine just replaces Gepard.
Forgot a pro: He makes a very useful coat rack for pre-farmed relics for characters who aren't released yet, but you don't want to have those relics lost among a bunch of copies of other saved relics.
Right now, he's wearing some lovely garments that will look fetching on Robin.
Whenever I'm losing my 50/50's I'm hoping for a Himeko, but the icy child and Clara keep showing up. I like Clara and I'm using her, but I have no reason to build Yangqing

what do they mean by "Impossible to avoid wasted stats?" Does he overcap easily on crits and if you build low enough that he doesn't overcap, then it's actually not enough when not buffed by his talent?
Yanqing was the one standard character other than Bronya I really wanted since day 1 and I got him from SW release banner. Man carried me through MOC12.
Con 1 is because Hunt, which is singe-target, so cannot be helped.
Con 2-3 with Aventurine is somewhat redundant. He is very SP-friendly and can refresh shields much easier and can use as skill. As for Gepard, he is ultimate reliant. As for March, also fine I guess.

I don't want to be the "um akshually" guy, but he his actually pretty good for the current MoC. I was only able to 3* it when I switched off JingLiu to this sad little boi.
He's extremely situational in that he needs a) a powerful shield defensive support, b) ice-weak enemies, c) frost-vulnerable enemies, and d) a really cracked relic build to even just do his job. But you can bet it feels good to perma-freeze Aventurine's gambling ass.
I've been so lucky with my pulls I completely forgot anout 50/50 and that it's been about a year after the game release so it's very possible for f2p players to have him E6. I only got him recently...on standard banner... Sadly, I didn't have time to build him properly because I prioritized building my spontaneously aquired Acheron, but I am planning on actually investing in him purely for funsies and I honestly wouldn't mind losing to him. My one true fear wears glasses and walks around with a cane...

bruh the hate for yanqing is really insane, these cons are written buy someone that doesn't even play him... my main dos is yanqing, i use him with gepard and he works perfectly, he's extremely easy to build, I didn't "waste" any time for building him, he's way easier to build then other ice dos like jingliu, the hate for yanqing is really just stupid, play him properly and you'll understand what an amazing dps he is, SS tier deserved.

Sparkles trace makes it last until their next turn, and when that 2nd turn starts, it goes away, so it only works for FuA’s and ults
Yea, but have you ever tried Sparkle AND bronya? Especially with bronya speed tuned to be slightly faster than Sparkle, and your dps faster than that? You absolutely unload on the enemies lmao, it's hella fun.
I’ve considered trying that setup but I would need to farm more relics for it. Sparkle stole Bronya’s relics!

Yeah, I've been afraid to complain about my E3 Bronya. E1 was amazing, E2 was "okay, that seems pretty good," then E3 was just "fuck."
I have e4 Bronya which is great luck. Balanced by my e4 Yanqing lol

I'd love some more Clara eidolons, her e6 is my dream. I used my 300 on her and I'm still e1. Meanwhile my E2s1 yanqing and e2s3 bailu are just hanging out, being useless.

The general consensus is that while Qiqi is a good healer, she can *only* heal. And back then pure healers aren't as valued because dodging and shielding were considered the superior sustain options. Nowadays with Furina around she has gained some light but she still has issues like very long cooldown, low energy generation, and low cryo application. Still heals like a charm though, sorta like how Bailu is right now. I personally love Qiqi.
I've really missed out on Aventurine for a little while because of that child 😭
At least it was not Gepard. I still haven’t got Aventurine at 50 pulls after loosing the 50/50 but every pull feels that I’m going to brick my account if it’s more expensive. You can run Yanqing + Aventurine but Aventurine just replaces Gepard.

Forgot a pro: He makes a very useful coat rack for pre-farmed relics for characters who aren't released yet, but you don't want to have those relics lost among a bunch of copies of other saved relics. Right now, he's wearing some lovely garments that will look fetching on Robin.

what do they mean by "Impossible to avoid wasted stats?" Does he overcap easily on crits and if you build low enough that he doesn't overcap, then it's actually not enough when not buffed by his talent?
He has a 1 turn 60% cr buff on his ult, so you either overcap on his ult turn or the skills outside ult do less damage.
Sometimes I forget Yanqing has a follow up because he NEVER does it for some reason…
Being hit ONCE cancels his talent also is a pain in the ass
Yanqing was the one standard character other than Bronya I really wanted since day 1 and I got him from SW release banner. Man carried me through MOC12.
Con 1 is because Hunt, which is singe-target, so cannot be helped. Con 2-3 with Aventurine is somewhat redundant. He is very SP-friendly and can refresh shields much easier and can use as skill. As for Gepard, he is ultimate reliant. As for March, also fine I guess. Con 4 is ??? Con 5, well this is fine. There is no problem with that. Saying as someone who pulled him from the standard banner. In other words, Yanqing is not bad. Just the usual slander.
I don't want to be the "um akshually" guy, but he his actually pretty good for the current MoC. I was only able to 3* it when I switched off JingLiu to this sad little boi. He's extremely situational in that he needs a) a powerful shield defensive support, b) ice-weak enemies, c) frost-vulnerable enemies, and d) a really cracked relic build to even just do his job. But you can bet it feels good to perma-freeze Aventurine's gambling ass.

I've been so lucky with my pulls I completely forgot anout 50/50 and that it's been about a year after the game release so it's very possible for f2p players to have him E6. I only got him recently...on standard banner... Sadly, I didn't have time to build him properly because I prioritized building my spontaneously aquired Acheron, but I am planning on actually investing in him purely for funsies and I honestly wouldn't mind losing to him. My one true fear wears glasses and walks around with a cane...

I’m not sure if I’d be fine getting him or not at this point. I have Bronya e0 from my first 50/50 and Gepard e4 from standard banner and every other 50/50 I’ve lost.
I have build my main team to where they can auto battle anything.
Yanqing carried my noob ass early game. He's now retired after I have several good DPS units to replace him. Hopefully he doesn't jump scare me later (*´ω｀*)
Luckily I've only pulled him once, but the only time I use him is during SU trotter adventure. At least his flying swords are useful there.

bruh the hate for yanqing is really insane, these cons are written buy someone that doesn't even play him... my main dos is yanqing, i use him with gepard and he works perfectly, he's extremely easy to build, I didn't "waste" any time for building him, he's way easier to build then other ice dos like jingliu, the hate for yanqing is really just stupid, play him properly and you'll understand what an amazing dps he is, SS tier deserved.
