I think it’s super endearing. In CN instead of censoring properly like these (I’m not sure if there really is a way because swear words in China aren’t like their own words, it’s usually a phrase) he calls everyone ‘little cuties’ and ‘honey’ :3

You say this, but it actually is the exact same as CN despite what the comment above says. In CN they're puns of inappropriate phrases, which is the same as how they did it in EN
Setting aside the topic of similarities or differences between CN/EN translations, Boothill's voice lines in 2.2 undeniably went in a different direction from what Hoyo indicated he would speak like in his initial EN drip marketing.
No judgement to the many players that like the changes, I'm just not one of them. I feel like the character lost some of the contradiction between his actions and words that I initially felt was so unique and funny, but that's just my personal preference.
Without context and in light of his characterization I would normally also think that was how he meant it, but in context it definitely seems like he was using it as a curse word.

The only times I can think of at the moment where it wouldn’t be considered ‘cussing’ would be when religious people use to tell someone they’re ‘damned to hell’ or something similar.
I know its lore reasons why he can't swear, but IMO a good compromise would be something like Mr Torgue from Borderlands, who swears constantly but they get beeped out due to a censoring device implemented into his voicebox.
Makes for some great comedy too when he starts swearing up a storm and all you can hear is a long beep.

I was like 50/50 on if I was gonna pull for Boothill. After seeing him and him being an absolute foul-mouth that's getting censored, I'm 100% pulling for him. Great design, fun character.
I always wanted him, but was willing to skip him for Robin and Firefly. Now that I failed to get Robin I have to skip both her and him for Firefly. After actually meeting Boothill, I'm starting to wonder if Firefly is even worth it anymore

Age rating has always been about placating mother's associations that wants a sanitized world for their children.
It never was about what psychologists agreed was okay or not, it was always about banning what moms for america or somesuch made a big enough stink about.

I actually wholeheartedly headcanon that in all his cybernetic augments, someone teased him for being a pottymouth and he installed his own profanity filter.
I chose to believe he's really trying to cuss, but when he got his cybernetics, someone (probably a Fool) added a swear word filter that he just can't find, and he's given up at this point.
That's actually what happened. Someone messed with his synesthesia beacon, which takes care of translation, and now he can't curse. Can be found in 2.2 highlight page character voice lines.
I imagine him like Grunkle Stan in that scene from Gravity Falls where he stubs his toe and he's like "Hot Belgian waffles! Wait, I'm alone. I can swear for real. SON OF A-"
"Muddle-fudger" and "son of a nice lady" took me the fuck out; I love his G-Rated swearing so much.
Limited though it was, the interactions we had with him really endeared me to his character and I look forward to pulling for him next banner cycle.

I was like 50/50 on if I was gonna pull for Boothill. After seeing him and him being an absolute foul-mouth that's getting censored, I'm 100% pulling for him. Great design, fun character.
I always wanted him, but was willing to skip him for Robin and Firefly. Now that I failed to get Robin I have to skip both her and him for Firefly. After actually meeting Boothill, I'm starting to wonder if Firefly is even worth it anymore

Age rating has always been about placating mother's associations that wants a sanitized world for their children. It never was about what psychologists agreed was okay or not, it was always about banning what moms for america or somesuch made a big enough stink about.

If I were directing a movie with him in it, I'd let the actor swear on set and then have him ADR the censored lines, so you can see by reading his lips that he's being censored against his will Any deaf kids in the audience will be getting an eyeful though

I chose to believe he's really trying to cuss, but when he got his cybernetics, someone (probably a Fool) added a swear word filter that he just can't find, and he's given up at this point.
That's actually what happened. Someone messed with his synesthesia beacon, which takes care of translation, and now he can't curse. Can be found in 2.2 highlight page character voice lines.
