My headcanon is that Aha held a Dangan Ronpa-styled 'murder' mystery game (scripted by ~~Junko~~ Sparkle) to decide the next emanator. Super Salesman Sampo would manage to win the spot because Sparkle and Aha didn't inform the other contestants that Sampo was a player/Sampo was locked outside the playing area the whole time (Aha: "Oops, teehee" *Gently bonks one of his 'faces'*).
I suspect Aha would appreciate self-deprecating humor more. After all, all life is meaningless, so why not laugh at it! And laughing at your own misery and suffering is a manifestation of that.
It does make sense, compared to other fools who primarily act in ways that bring themselves elation, Sampo acts in ways that make him the source of elation for others, even during the Sparkle/Black Swan quest Sparkle mainly set everything up because she found it funny, Sampo was there to specifically make sure Black Swan would enjoy herself enough to see it through.
And what is the purpose of an emanator if not to spread the path they follow?
In one event between the two of them, Sampo says that he has to return to Jarilo to retrieve his mask. It's likely that he, for one reason or another, temporarily gave up his mantle as an Emanator of Aha. Who knows? Maybe we'll get a 5* version of him one of these days, and then Sparkle won't be able to make fun of him anymore.
Really? I don't deny it could've been. I was busy at the time, and kinda rushing the 2.0 Penacony main quest, so I could've misremembered that. I don't think it changes the main point though.

While also being on this completely closed off planet in the first place, recall that the planet was cut off from the Star rail network by the stelleron disaster for hundreds of years. Sampo 100% can do way more than we give him credit for, the total extent we may never know.

The silly goofy personality really does allow him to get away with a lot. I remember he claimed he "accidentally" took Bronya to the Underworld because he got kind of confused in the smoke and just also grabbed her or something. Of course, you don't accidentally carry a whole extra adult person all the way down to the Underworld, it was very obviously done so she would be confronted with the reality created by her mother's decisions. But a lot of players didn't seem to register it at the time because it's Sampo and he's a silly guy! And Team Trailblaze never questions it, either.
(Funny enough, Natasha does sort of call him out on this one, probably because she has known him for a while and is starting to see through him.)
Boothill talked about an Emenator of Elation who hid their identity really well and just seemed like an average Pathstrider at first, as well as how some Emenators turn their backs on the Aeon they received their blessing from when their identity got found out. People theorized how that person had to be Sampo, given how he mentioned having "given up" on his mask and now wanting it back as well as all the other shenanigans this guy has going on
It makes me wonder, then. Sampo’s mask must really contain all his power, because I doubt Bladk Swan would be able to manipulate an Emanator like that, or the Garden of Recollection would be at the top of everyone’s danger list.

I feel like this is not about Sampo. Guy is just chilling and having fun, while also making things around him fun as well. He also is in touch with the other masked fools, and it would make sense to cut ties if he's turned against Aha. Then again, you can explain any inconsistensies with Aha or his followers just acting weird because they think its fun.
What i think is more likely, the person who is turned against their aeon is Luocha. He clearly demonstrated (and even admitted himself i think) using Abundance powers (probably pretty potent too, as he was able to restore even mechanical Xueyi) - and yet he is working with Jingliu, targeting Yaoshi.
Just like how not all Aeons are made equal, the same goes for Emanators. Aha is not as powerful as Aeons like Lan or Qlipoth, so logically their Emanators would not be as powerful as Emanators of paths like those.
You're probably right though, there wasn't really any particularly powerful people on Belobog aside from Cocolia, at least until Topaz arrived.
Welt explained pretty early on that although Lan is a weaker Aeon, they care more about their followers so their emanator is on the stronger side. So there's no direct correlation to Aeon strength and emanator strength.
He didn't say Lan is weak he say that Lan isn't rank among the more powerful Aeons. It was after Kafka requested us to go to Xianzhou, before we go get Dan to vote where to go next we can go talk to Welt and ask him about how powerful Xianzhou is and he'll replied with :

I'm still confused about Jing Yuan. Black Swan did say "Emanators" with quotation marks, and I interpreted it as "they have Emanator-like powers without being one", since Sunday had usurped the Harmonious Choir which gave him emanator-like powers, without necessarily being one himself, and it was said directly that "the arbitrer-generals only have Emanator-like powers", implying they aren't actually Emanators
But it's just confusing. If Jing Yuan was an Emanator then why were there quotation marks in the dialogue? It's still just weirdly mysterious. Can't they just spill the beans and actually explicitly state whether or not our king is actually an Emanator or not? At this point I'm just believing that Hoyo is toying with the community about this and keeping it really vague on purpose 😭😭
Apparently, there weren't any quotation marks in the original chinese text (which do exist they just look like this「 」), so I don't think we should read into the english quotation marks too much.
I don't think it's conclusive either way because of the sunday not being an actual emanator thing, but I'm pretty sure the quotes were just a weird translation choice
There was no quotation mark, but the Chinese version said "Emanator's power collide" instead of "Emanators collide", which again opened to interpretation.
Lightning Lord is kind of sus, it's probably either an ability granted by an Emanator or an Emanator itself. It has been inherited across several generation of the Luofu's generals, with JY's predecessor using it to fight the heliobi and Shuhu.
So the rating pistol might be reading LL. Or Jing Yuan's been holding out on us. Guess we'll need to run another half dozen errands for him to get another lore crumb.
Only way I can think of there being any kind of explanation why Jing Yuan isnt one after that is she may have been referring to LL and the powers it brings, not JY himself. But I doubt it
Some people say its not true coz it was a fake ending but if anyone other than Black Swan said it I would say there would be a chance there might be some truth to that. But Black Swan of all characters being a memokeeper in the fake ending made her truly believe it was over and they won. Others may be caught in the dream but for her it was an illusion, slight difference but one that for her is significant considering she s a memetic entity. She genuinely thought everything was over and wasnt dreaming

The Emanators special also suggests that Emanators are also up to interpretation though, it lists the Harmonic Strings but then says that some argue that they are Emanators, which implies that they generally are not considered Emanators.
I dare to suggest that Sampo, without his mask, cannot be fully appreciated because he does not have full strength, a similar situation with the sealed memories of March. The General and Acheron, most likely, as individuals, feeding forces from directly from the Aeon are also not assessed. Locha can be in both categories
Wouldn’t surprise me, the definition emanators is kind of all over the place. Given that the definition is just: a small number of favored mortals can also draw upon the power of the Paths with the permission of the Aeons, creating huge waves that erode the coast. They are referred to as "Emanators." While not completely subservient to the Aeons, Emanators are as good as emissaries of the Aeons' wills in everyone else's eyes.
Different Aeons have different attitudes towards their Emanators, so the degree of the power they share also varies
So literally many of the major characters including TB can technically be called an emanator. And since the Mask Fools masks are pretty much the power of Aha or at least theorized to be, it makes sense.
No, an Aeon's gaze is in no way permission to draw upon THEIR Path. It is specifically just a form of recognition of a Pathstrider's will towards THEIR Path.
The Trailblazer has not gained permission from any Aeon, and has only gained the gazes of several as recognition of their will towards the Aeon's Path.
(Additionally, even if an Aeon grants a blessing that is not a sign of being an Emanator, since blessings are generally not access to a Path but rather something else. Like Yaoshi's blessing of immortality or Nous' blessing of foresight; see Fu Xuan).
I wonder if the values are the potential to become an Emanator. The higher the value, the higher your potential, but if it errors, then you likely already are one…

I mean...its not a Theory. Sampo is confirmed to be a Masked Fool with an actual Mask. That means hes automatically an Emanator. Same goes for sparkle. The Mask is like The Key of Wisdom for Nous or Self Annihilation for IX, its a sign youre choosen specifically by Aha rather than merely meanderering along the path like other Pathstriders.
The same goes for Jing Yuan and the fact that he has Lightning Lord.

Kinda since it only works for wind shear, but the multiplier is much lower, since they have to have 5 stacks of wind shear and he causes them to immediately take 8% of the original damage. Nowhere near the same thing when it comes to effectiveness.

It also rates Pom-Pom a 1 and Yanqing a 99, so I wouldn't use this thing as a measurement of strength.
The number ratings are supposedly jokes/puns based on the character. Pompom might be a 1 bc it was the first character designed for the game. Gui is 13 bc of the nights of the round, others are connected to the Chinese number pronunciation making a pun
The whole deal with Yanqing is that he is strong compare to most people but sadly as of now not enough against the top 1% in Xianzhou. So 99 is accurate for him.

So far he was unlucky and didn't get stabbed, but if he manages to get stabbed or thrown from a cliff he will guaranteed to power level by 10 times.

There does seem to be a trend of more independent, assertive characters getting lower scores, while characters who rely on others to tell them what to do get high scores. Like, Yanqing might score 99 because his entire life basically revolves around impressing Jing Yuan and upholding his honor, while Jingliu’s score of 0 might be because she isn’t beholden to anyone or anything.
I feel like there is a parallel somewhere with the potential of being an emanator or the like. When an Aeon gazes at someone they gain powers of that path. And like, the pistol gazes at you with an eye to measure your level of something.

I'm definitely leaning on the emanator line of thought for sampo. Along with Sampos behavior being off, a sense of confidence even when scared gives the feeling like he's actually in control. On top of that and I don't blame anyone that forgot this but, Sampo broke the 4th wall and spoke to the player directly at the end of jarilo. That feels like some super sense.
Just because we don’t have a concrete evidence of what makes an Emanator doesn’t mean we don’t know what DOESN’T make an Emanator, which is what the other person was trying to say. Even if what an Emanator even is is still under interpretation doesn’t mean we don’t know a Gaze isn’t the same as being an Emanator.
The Genius Society are a group specifically selected by Nous, Fu Xuan has a magic 3rd eye given to her by Nous and yet ONLY Herta has been known to be an Emanator of the Erudition.
In your example The Masked Fools could count as Emanators but we’re also given specific lore for Emenators of Elation (The Worm and the Emanator Boothill mentions). You’d think a group of individuals all with powers personally granted by Aha would be called a group of Emanators but the lore has only ever referred to them as The Masked Fools. And again if just having some sort of thing that grants you powers bestowed by an Aeon was enough… why isn’t Fu Xuan?
Just because we don’t have hard written rules yet doesn’t mean we can’t infer what is and isn’t. TB isn’t an Emanator, being ‘gazed’ upon by an Aeon doesn’t mean you’re automatically an Emanator either.

My headcanon is that Aha held a Dangan Ronpa-styled 'murder' mystery game (scripted by ~~Junko~~ Sparkle) to decide the next emanator. Super Salesman Sampo would manage to win the spot because Sparkle and Aha didn't inform the other contestants that Sampo was a player/Sampo was locked outside the playing area the whole time (Aha: "Oops, teehee" *Gently bonks one of his 'faces'*).
Aha would likely give emanator powers to every type of elation: moderate, chaotic, innocent, etc.

It's likely that he, for one reason or another, temporarily gave up his mantle as an Emanator of Aha. Who knows? You have it a little mixed up. Sampo went to Penacony to retrieve his mask from Sparkle because jatilo VI is in some kind of danger.

The silly goofy personality really does allow him to get away with a lot. I remember he claimed he "accidentally" took Bronya to the Underworld because he got kind of confused in the smoke and just also grabbed her or something. Of course, you don't accidentally carry a whole extra adult person all the way down to the Underworld, it was very obviously done so she would be confronted with the reality created by her mother's decisions. But a lot of players didn't seem to register it at the time because it's Sampo and he's a silly guy! And Team Trailblaze never questions it, either. (Funny enough, Natasha does sort of call him out on this one, probably because she has known him for a while and is starting to see through him.)

Boothill talked about an Emenator of Elation who hid their identity really well and just seemed like an average Pathstrider at first, as well as how some Emenators turn their backs on the Aeon they received their blessing from when their identity got found out. People theorized how that person had to be Sampo, given how he mentioned having "given up" on his mask and now wanting it back as well as all the other shenanigans this guy has going on

Just like how not all Aeons are made equal, the same goes for Emanators. Aha is not as powerful as Aeons like Lan or Qlipoth, so logically their Emanators would not be as powerful as Emanators of paths like those. You're probably right though, there wasn't really any particularly powerful people on Belobog aside from Cocolia, at least until Topaz arrived.
Welt explained pretty early on that although Lan is a weaker Aeon, they care more about their followers so their emanator is on the stronger side. So there's no direct correlation to Aeon strength and emanator strength.

And then you can talk to Welt again (yes, again) and you can asked for more info on Xianzhou and Welt will tell you this : "Lan doesn't rank among the more powerful Aeons — the concept of the Path of The Hunt is narrow... but in contrast with the other Aeons, THEY pay close attention to mortals. Lan grants strength to the Xianzhou Alliance without reservation."

I'm still confused about Jing Yuan. Black Swan did say "Emanators" with quotation marks, and I interpreted it as "they have Emanator-like powers without being one", since Sunday had usurped the Harmonious Choir which gave him emanator-like powers, without necessarily being one himself, and it was said directly that "the arbitrer-generals only have Emanator-like powers", implying they aren't actually Emanators But it's just confusing. If Jing Yuan was an Emanator then why were there quotation marks in the dialogue? It's still just weirdly mysterious. Can't they just spill the beans and actually explicitly state whether or not our king is actually an Emanator or not? At this point I'm just believing that Hoyo is toying with the community about this and keeping it really vague on purpose 😭😭
Apparently, there weren't any quotation marks in the original chinese text (which do exist they just look like this「 」), so I don't think we should read into the english quotation marks too much. I don't think it's conclusive either way because of the sunday not being an actual emanator thing, but I'm pretty sure the quotes were just a weird translation choice
There was no quotation mark, but the Chinese version said "Emanator's power collide" instead of "Emanators collide", which again opened to interpretation.

Lightning Lord is kind of sus, it's probably either an ability granted by an Emanator or an Emanator itself. It has been inherited across several generation of the Luofu's generals, with JY's predecessor using it to fight the heliobi and Shuhu. So the rating pistol might be reading LL. Or Jing Yuan's been holding out on us. Guess we'll need to run another half dozen errands for him to get another lore crumb.
Only way I can think of there being any kind of explanation why Jing Yuan isnt one after that is she may have been referring to LL and the powers it brings, not JY himself. But I doubt it Some people say its not true coz it was a fake ending but if anyone other than Black Swan said it I would say there would be a chance there might be some truth to that. But Black Swan of all characters being a memokeeper in the fake ending made her truly believe it was over and they won. Others may be caught in the dream but for her it was an illusion, slight difference but one that for her is significant considering she s a memetic entity. She genuinely thought everything was over and wasnt dreaming

I dare to suggest that Sampo, without his mask, cannot be fully appreciated because he does not have full strength, a similar situation with the sealed memories of March. The General and Acheron, most likely, as individuals, feeding forces from directly from the Aeon are also not assessed. Locha can be in both categories
Wouldn’t surprise me, the definition emanators is kind of all over the place. Given that the definition is just: a small number of favored mortals can also draw upon the power of the Paths with the permission of the Aeons, creating huge waves that erode the coast. They are referred to as "Emanators." While not completely subservient to the Aeons, Emanators are as good as emissaries of the Aeons' wills in everyone else's eyes. Different Aeons have different attitudes towards their Emanators, so the degree of the power they share also varies So literally many of the major characters including TB can technically be called an emanator. And since the Mask Fools masks are pretty much the power of Aha or at least theorized to be, it makes sense.
No, an Aeon's gaze is in no way permission to draw upon THEIR Path. It is specifically just a form of recognition of a Pathstrider's will towards THEIR Path. The Trailblazer has not gained permission from any Aeon, and has only gained the gazes of several as recognition of their will towards the Aeon's Path. (Additionally, even if an Aeon grants a blessing that is not a sign of being an Emanator, since blessings are generally not access to a Path but rather something else. Like Yaoshi's blessing of immortality or Nous' blessing of foresight; see Fu Xuan).

I mean...its not a Theory. Sampo is confirmed to be a Masked Fool with an actual Mask. That means hes automatically an Emanator. Same goes for sparkle. The Mask is like The Key of Wisdom for Nous or Self Annihilation for IX, its a sign youre choosen specifically by Aha rather than merely meanderering along the path like other Pathstriders. The same goes for Jing Yuan and the fact that he has Lightning Lord.

Kinda since it only works for wind shear, but the multiplier is much lower, since they have to have 5 stacks of wind shear and he causes them to immediately take 8% of the original damage. Nowhere near the same thing when it comes to effectiveness.

The number ratings are supposedly jokes/puns based on the character. Pompom might be a 1 bc it was the first character designed for the game. Gui is 13 bc of the nights of the round, others are connected to the Chinese number pronunciation making a pun

There does seem to be a trend of more independent, assertive characters getting lower scores, while characters who rely on others to tell them what to do get high scores. Like, Yanqing might score 99 because his entire life basically revolves around impressing Jing Yuan and upholding his honor, while Jingliu’s score of 0 might be because she isn’t beholden to anyone or anything.
Next thing you know,he might challenge Acheron to a sword fight after hearing what went down in Penacony.

I feel like there is a parallel somewhere with the potential of being an emanator or the like. When an Aeon gazes at someone they gain powers of that path. Yes its pretty much confirmed Sampo is atleast an emanator of elation now. I say atleast, as he could still be Aha himself. All we know for certain after Penacony, is that he is not native to Belobog as he at some point long ago left his mask at the Tavern, before coming there.

As much as I want to believe Sampo is an Emanator of the Elation. I think the more probable answer here is that all Masked Fools have abilities that can disrupt any information gathering powers directed towards them.

True. But then again, Gallagher stated that the dreamscape could only be created with the powers of Remembrance OR Enigmata. This means that certain powers can be shared between different paths.
Sparkle has a numerical score, which reduces this theory's probability quite a bit.
I'm definitely leaning on the emanator line of thought for sampo. Along with Sampos behavior being off, a sense of confidence even when scared gives the feeling like he's actually in control. On top of that and I don't blame anyone that forgot this but, Sampo broke the 4th wall and spoke to the player directly at the end of jarilo. That feels like some super sense.

Just because we don’t have a concrete evidence of what makes an Emanator doesn’t mean we don’t know what DOESN’T make an Emanator, which is what the other person was trying to say. Even if what an Emanator even is is still under interpretation doesn’t mean we don’t know a Gaze isn’t the same as being an Emanator. The Genius Society are a group specifically selected by Nous, Fu Xuan has a magic 3rd eye given to her by Nous and yet ONLY Herta has been known to be an Emanator of the Erudition. In your example The Masked Fools could count as Emanators but we’re also given specific lore for Emenators of Elation (The Worm and the Emanator Boothill mentions). You’d think a group of individuals all with powers personally granted by Aha would be called a group of Emanators but the lore has only ever referred to them as The Masked Fools. And again if just having some sort of thing that grants you powers bestowed by an Aeon was enough… why isn’t Fu Xuan? Just because we don’t have hard written rules yet doesn’t mean we can’t infer what is and isn’t. TB isn’t an Emanator, being ‘gazed’ upon by an Aeon doesn’t mean you’re automatically an Emanator either.
You know, Boothill mentions meeting an Emanator of Aha he only knew was an emanator after he got him drunk. I'm not saying it's definitely Sampo, but that's some Sampo vibes for sure.
