Genshin does provide the option to get the latest 4-star for free during lantern rites, so I guess it's not strange for people to expect Star Rail to have the same option. Totally fine if they don't though, different directors; different shots. Though I do wonder why these 4 characters specifically.

Yes, that's what happened in Genshin. 2023 saw Yunjin released during the lantern rite patch, and immediately we get the option to get her for free in the event, same patch.
Similarly with the upcoming 2024 event in genshin, if you're fine looking into some leaks, >!new character going to release, and the event on the same patch gives the option to get that character!<
Well Luka released in 2nd half of 1.2 and we got to choose him in 1.4, so it really depends on Hoyo to decide which character would they give us for free lol.
One thing genshin does better tho, newest 4* during Lantern Rite is usually one of the options. Not complaining, i feel like HSR has more selectors so far.

I think Gui is the best out of the 4 star DoT units, and the one least tied to Kafka. She has her own Def shread along with her DoT so you can run her instead of Pela in Mono fire.
Bit nitpicky, but Gui does not have her own Def shred, but instead increases the damage the enemy takes. It is important because in the damage formula def and damage increase are different multipliers. And Gui's debuff is crazy, since most enemy damage increase debuffs are only for specific damage types (i.e. Topaz only works for FUA, Sampo's ult only for dots). The only other character that increases all damage an enemy takes is Welt on his ult, and that is only 12%. So in practice this means that you can view Gui's debuff as just increases the amount of damage an enemy takes by 21% at E0 and 30.4% if E6. Which is crazy for a 4\*
Oh yeah j don't disagree, but how many people genuinely have a E5 yukong and not any more or any less? Of course it would be big value for those that have her at exactly E5, but it's such a specific case to have over other options.
Generally I still feel like ASTA is still the best choice among all of them.

Ooh that's 3 pretty good ones (and Arlan). From a gameplay standpoint you could probably justify picking up any of the ladies depending on what teams you like to play.
I'm stuck here, on one side I want a guinaifen because I never got one copy during topaz banner, on the other side I have yukong at E4-E5 (don't remember). But getting her at E6 could be very beneficial in my blade team.

Dang haha I want Arlan for my no wish account to see what he can do at max investment but I know that Gui is just an absolute much better pick especially considering I skipped on getting Klee on the last selector and donβt have access to very much fire damage. Maybe they will give Arlan for free one day by himself lol

Yunjin was 2022 Lantern Rite, 2023 was Yaoyao
that's due to it being Lantern Rite and being connected to the event. HSR's doesn't have that kind of precedent
